*Lucille Anslem wanders around looking for a certain Lycanthrope.*
📖 @auguryofillomen
She finds a leanto in the woods a short distance from the hallow, it has a rolled up sleeping bag in it, and there is the remnants of a fire nearby. No sign of where Fen is currently, but it likely will arrive back to sleep.
*She inspects it, doing a once-over, then decides to hang nearby, waiting for them to return.*
Its some time before Fen returns, a few hours at least. When it does its foot steps are slightly heavier like its carrying something. They call out as they spot her.
"Ah, hello Lucille. Give me a moment," as it drops a large tied bundle of chopped wood to the ground and something wrapped and bound in canvas. "What's up?"
*They smile at the sound of it.*
“Nothing much, Fen. I simply wanted to see you.”
"Well you may be waiting a while for that," it jokes, but you can tell it's smiling back.
"How has everything been going? I know I've not been around much lately."
“It’s been good, rocky at times, but when is it not? The husbands are working on their communication, they are doing better every day.”
*They sound incredibly proud of that fact.*
“What have you been up to?”
Fen hums happily, also pleased at that news.
"Any relationship without disagreements is probably just not talking about them," it agrees, "I've been occasionally returning back here to drop off wood, I've set up camp between here and the town. Its a long walk to make, so its just easier to be closer when I don't exactly need to staying here. Been hunting and exploring, its interesting what's around here! I also built this for when I'm hanging around the hallow so I can sleep somewhere nicer overnight," it pats the leanto, "its a little weird to always sleep as a humanoid, still not used to it. I miss how warm fur keeps you sometimes."
Despite the topic, it remains sounding cheerful.
“Oh… would getting you a wolf-pelt blanket be insensitive?”
*Half joke.*
“I could crochet you a blanket, I would not mind.”
*Voice of someone who is Going to crochet it a blanket.*
"I mean, not really! I've hunted a wolf before and you bet I used the whole thing. I'm not sure how I'd feel about it though? If it'd feel weird having a pelt that isn't mine," it thinks for a moment on that, "either way! You don't need to to the effort of all that. I do have my own blankets," they assure, "its just very different than flopping to the ground and being able to sleep wherever. Although I try to sleep under trees if it snows, its weird to wake up half buried. Its very sweet of you to offer but its not an issue!"
Although it cannot be seen, you get the impression it gestures a lot while it speaks. Its protests about Lucille having no need to do that are token at best.
“Alright… I will keep that in mind.”
*She pauses for a second, “looking” it up and down.*
“Out of curiousity…how tall are you? I feel I have asked, but I forget.”
The sound of shifting feet as she looks it up and down, like it made a pose or gesture.
"A bit over two and a quarter metres, give or take. I've not checked in a long time," it sounds faintly amused, "you really don't need to make me anything. If we are sharing heights, how tall are you?"
“1.321 meters, exactly.”
"Hm, yeah sounds about right!" Fen smiles, "would you like to join me for food? I was thinking of frying up something. I've got to get the fire going so it'll be a bit before its ready, so if you have other plans that's fine."
*She smiles.*
“I would like that. Would you like any help?”
"Its alright, you don't need to. If you want to help though, once I have the fire going you can help me pick veggies and prepare them. I was thinking of making stirfry? If that sounds good," as it talks it starts to set up the fire, "I have a few different option for types of stirfry I can make, so we can have whatever sounds good to you since I like everything I have."
“I……cannot eat normally. Whatever is in the smallest size will do.”
*She makes a pinching motion. Thiiiiiis small!*
"Ah, that makes sense," Fen responds slightly sheepishly, "is there something I can make that is easier for you to eat?"
“Anything water-based will do. Stews, soups, and the like. Do not change your plans for me, though. I can eat anything if I try hard enough.”
"Its not like I had specific plans beyond: oh hey, stirfry is easy and I have a mix of things that'd work for it. Soup is also good for that sort of thing, so I'm happy to switch to cooking that instead if its easier for you," Fen has gotten the fire going at a stable burn and starts adding more logs to it, "I have carrots, onion, beans, I think Dals was growing potatoes that it said I was welcome to. I've got some vension and can make the base broth pretty easy, it'll just be a little longer."
It was already setting its bag aside and pulling out what it needed to start prep work. Although it couldn't be seen, there was a soft swishing sound and leaves on the ground were moved as its tail wagged.
“….Stew it is, then. Let me help you.”
*She does not wait for an answer, looking for the listed ingredients.*
Its bag is filled with what you'd expect from a travellers bag, dried foods, camping supplies, medical supplies, spare clothes, quite a lot of medical supplies really, a few leather bundles with things wrapped inside. There is more inside other than those and in the side pouches, but since the aforementioned carrots, beans and onions were on top in a simple drawstring cloth bag, they'd need to actually go looking through.
*Eh…. Not with Fen right there. They take the bag out and start unloading things.*
“Do you have a knife?”
"Left pocket of the bag has some or the one strapped to the side should be fine. If they have symbols in the handle don't use them, those aren't suitable for food," it replied, having sat back on its heels after getting the fire ready.
It's turned partly away from her as it watches a few insects that have landed a couple metres away. Distracted from what its doing for a moment.
Cool bugs...
*She looks, then smiles.*
“The coolest of bugs! The lady bug is good luck, you know!”
"Mhm," Fen agrees, tail still wagging away, "there is a story about the number of spots predicting how the rest of your day will go, but I don't remember it. Its so interesting how so many people have so many different stories about what the smallest details of the world mean. I've heard so many, do you have a favourite yourself?"
*They think for a little while.*
“…Have you heard of the crow counting rhyme?”
"I know about magpie greetings and I know there is a corvid that has something to do with boys, girls, silver and gold?"
They've turned back to look towards Lucille, listening with interest.
*She smiles.*
“If memory serves, your fortune will work on how many crows you see in a murder. It is one for sorrow, two for mirth, three for a wedding, and four for a birth. Five for silver, six for gold, and seven for a secret never to be told.”
*The words come back like greeting an old friend. They do small hand motions with each one.*
It takes Fen a second to reply.
"...I keep forgetting no one can see me. I'll keep an eye out for how many crows I spot in groups then. What do the motions mean?"
“Oh, nothing. I just did that for fun.”
Fen snorts, "fair enough! I think my favourite is 'money spiders' that if you see a small spider or one climbs on you, its good luck to spin it over your head and release it. Killing one is bad luck."
“Why spin it over head?”
Fen makes a 'I dunno' noise, "I was just told to do that when I was a kid. It kind of stuck, maybe they told me but I don't remember. Its just a good excuse to pick up spiders at this point."
It pokes the fire and adds a few more logs
“…Do you enjoy picking up spiders?”
*These veggies r being so chopped btw. In case you didn’t #know…..*
"Do you not? They are so tiny and tickly. Good to watch their movements too," Fen unwraps the canvas binding of one of the things it'd brought back. Inside was several cuts of meat and bones, "I'll make bone broth later, but it'll taste good even without broth as the base. Can you pass me my waterskin? Its attached to my bag."
*They lean over and unlatch the waterskin, handing it over to the vague approximation of where Fen is.*
"Thanks," it starts to set up a frame to hang a pot over the fire, which it fills with water, "while that heats we can cut up the meat. We'll fry it and the veggies before we add the water. Feel free to pick which bit of meat you want to have"
