First match with the new GSC codex against Blood Ravens (using Ultramarines chapter tactics). 1300 points and playing Retrieval Mission. I felt the new codex was a heck of a lot better than the Index rules but the space marines were a tough force to crack. Game ended turn 4 having effectively been tabled. Good game though.

House Vorthax in the 41st Millennium

House Vorthax was founded long ago, before the Emperor of Mankind’s Great Crusade brought the world of Aquitaine back into the Imperial fold. At the time of their rediscovery, House Vorthax was the mightiest of four (4) prominent Knight Households, the others being House Ior, House Castigon, and House Kastrix. Because of Aquitaine’s proximity to Forgeworld Antilles, it only made sense that all four Knight Houses swore fealty to the Adeptus Mechanicus instead of the Imperium. While none of House Vorthax’s leaders would ever claim the choice to be a mistake, it has left in indelible mark on House Vorthax’s culture over the millennia.

In the beginning, House Vorthax could have been mistaken for a Questor Imperialis House. Their knights were bold and valiant, bearing personal heraldry alongside the House colors. But as time progressed, and the Mechanicus solidified their stewardship over the world of Aquitaine, House Vorthax began to reflect more and more their mechanical masters. House colors became secondary, the blue and cream serving to accent the red, steel, and black of Mars, and the deep blue and green of Forgeworld Antilles.

Aquitaine itself also changed, shifting from an untouched, verdant world with forests and oceans, to one dominated by massive agri-complexes and automated mines as the forges of Antilles exploited all the resources they could in their quest to meet production quotas. In return, the Knights of House Vorthax have greater access to older Knight variants that have become rare or extinct in other parts of the Imperium. Rumor has it that there even resides a fabled Acastus Knight-Porphyrion deep within the Sanctums of the Blueridge Keep, dormant and waiting for a worthy Knight pilot to tame its machine spirit.

As of M.41, House Vorthax has secured its rule of Aquitaine by the pure simplicity of being the only remaining Knight House on the world. Centuries of shrewd politicking, oaths, inter-house marriages, and feud reparations placed Vorthax, already the mightiest House, as the only House. The others are remembered only in legend and song, with the exception of House Ior, who has a single remaining Scion left to bear its name.

Organizationally, House Vorthax is structured like any other Questor Mechanicus household, with a Princeps ruling over several Barons and their holdings. Four of these Barons are selected by the Princeps to be his advisors and form his Iron Court. While the Princeps’ word is law, he rarely makes a decision before consulting his Iron Court, and they are second only to him in the hierarchy.

As of M.41 the Iron Court of House Vorthax is comprised as follows:

Princeps: Lord Tiberius Vorthax, Dawn Ascendant- Cerastus Knight-Atrapos Master Tactician: Baron Demarcus Vorthax, Spear of Saint Venn, Cerastus Knight-Lancer Master of Vox: Lady Trieste Vorthax, Sunhammer, Dominus Knight-Castellan Master of Lore: Baroness Sarahta Ior-Vorthax, Cogbreaker- Cerastus Knight-Lancer Forge Master: Baron Lukresta Vorthax, Black Maw, Questoris Knight-Magara

While the Iron Court represents the best of the best, there is no shortage of other elite Barons who go to war carrying the name of Vorthax with them towards honor and glory. A few of notable Knights that have earned House Vorthax a litany of glories and honors in combat are;

Baron Archimedes Vorthax- Archimedes Vorthax is a second cousin of Princeps Tiberius. Piloting the Dominus Knight-Valiant Adamantine Fist, he has stood as a stalwart defender of Aquitaine and the Mechanicus for the better part of eight decades. His most notable accomplishment was harpooning and slaying the tyranid bio-titan known as Castamar’s Doom on the world of Fenrix Prime as Hive Fleet Scylla threatened to engulf the Mechanicus held port world of Eggon’s Reach.

Sir Tarragon- Tarragon Vorthax, The Siege Breaker, can trace his lineage back to House Castigon of old. He pilots the Knight Preceptor Forgewind, and boasts over two dozen super-heavy class kills to his name. He earned his moniker on Formosa Alpha-9. He, along with a contingent of sappers from the 393rd Death Korps of Krieg, laid waste to the Black Iron Fortress of Warsmith Sargan Ptell, opening the path for Imperial forces after a seven month siege. Ptell surrendered four hours later.

Arakpo- Arakpo is currently a Freeblade, though not because of any dishonor upon him or his House. Originally known as Francis Degner Vorthax, grand-nephew to Baron Demarcus Vorthax, Francis lost his memory after a fateful duel with the Renegade Freeblade Red Baron saw him encased in ice and frozen. He was found by the Rogue Trader Elias Forte, pulled free, and his Knight repaired. Francis, unable to recall his own name, took that of his Knight. Arakpo was originally a Knight-Warden, armed with an avenger gatling canon and reaper chainsword, but after Forte pulled it from the ice and repaired it, it know strides to war as a Knight-Gallant, armed with twin chainswords. After serving a stint with Forte’s personal forces, Arakpo felt compelled to seek out his origins and now travels the galaxy searching for who he really is.
