some of the mechanics in dav is fun for immersion purposes. for rogues, there’s a knock back if you fully charge the bow, you can run OUT of arrows and there’s a fun mechanic where you can jump into mid air with slo-mo and hit a target. very cool rogue things (as someone who mostly only plays rogues in da bc i think they’re more fun)

when the damage is hidden but happening to the Character in plain sight is sooooo satisfying and not even in a woe is me no one pays enough attention to my little meow meow way. everyone DOES care but your guy would rather die standing up than let on that something’s amiss. gonna take those hits behind closed doors because they can swallow the blood in their mouth and keep swinging. gonna wear themselves away until they’re raw and exposed because doing anything else would be worse for someone else. a dull knife is better than none and someday things will be good again. probably.

outside of any existing ships, does lanaya want a long term partner and children? why or why not? are their conditions that change this?

i think it is very conditional and depends on the partner and verse. she will typically strive for a long - term partner rather than hookups or something short - term. she does enjoy sex but she will always want more from the person and she'll inevitably fall for them -- and sex doesn't even have to happen for her to fall for them. it can be a dynamic where they never even kiss and it's still highly likely she will if there's an emotional connection ( she's demisexual so i'd say that an emotional connection is bigger for her / equal to sex ). post trespasser & during veilguard she's more open to hookups, but that's because she's more shut out and less open to new emotional connections. she's a long-term partner kind of person but doesn't like marriage for her own reasons.

with children it's hard -- regardless of a solas ship, lanaya is an integral part of the hunt for solas, which will make things difficult. she won't go out of her way to have children around dai and trespasser. if it happens, it happens. ( but it is more likely pre trespasser and post dai, not that she'd try for it intentionally, though ). she'd be much more interested in having a child with a partner after veilguard.

lanaya absolutely does want a long-term partner. having children isn't something that she sees for herself -- not because she doesn't want it but because of everything that goes on in her life. she's content with her life without children and she's perfectly fine if it never does.

Reds, blues, yellows— Solas' head had tilted back as he watched the whirl of color dance in the breeze that only grazed the very top of the vhenadahl. Just as the stone wall suffocated any light that could have reached beyond it, the narrow pathways he and Lanaya walked pushed the breath back into his lungs forcing him to measure his intake of air or succumb to the claustrophobic scene.

"That it does," he agreed.

He observed the movement of others around them, took in the sounds of shoes and cart wheels against cobblestone as they hurried about their day. Parents ushering children, workers flitting from business to business having risen with the day's beginning and the crows of roosters hours prior. Most there would live, breathe, and die knowing nothing but the inside of that alienage— forced to wash the mud from noble boots or sell what they could to keep heads above water. Even if the wall was torn down in that very moment it would not amount to a fraction of what they were missing … but they were too busy trying to survive to notice. The thought pulled a faint bitterness to the back of his throat he quietly cleared away.

"I meant no offense, merely offering an ear to lend." The subtle flashes of longing in her eyes hit him like a passing reflection; in spite of it all, it used to be home. The path of stepping into old streets so familiar yet so painfully different worn down with his own footsteps alongside hers— the anxiety of whether it would feel the same as it looked upon them. "We all have our own histories we carry."

Solas carefully shouldered the pack of supplies she'd requested they deliver.

lanaya looks past the vhenadahl to the rows of narrow houses built upwards and on every piece of land they could. homes were stacked against each other with not much space in between them. then they were built upwards due to the lack of ground the alienage had. she resented living here and how close everyone was. you couldn't breathe let alone exist without someone on your shoulder. her childhood home was filled with her immediate family, that's true, but it was more than just them. she could see the exact home, which of course became someone else's home the moment they left for clan lavellan in the free marches.

so many memories came flooding back and took her to a time when her family were both together and alive. she was nothing more than a child given the responsibilities of an adult but never quite treated like one. still, she loved this childhood of hers -- she loved the vhenadahl, she loved their attempts to keep their traditions alive, she loved the community and how everyone could rely on each other. yes, the state of the alienage was horrible but you had to actually look at the people to get an idea of what they were like.

she also knew she was somewhat desensitized and forgiving. she grew up this way, so she didn't other options.

" no, it's --, " her eyes apologetically soften. " ... the same, yet different? and i'm ... different? it doesn't feel like home ... just any other place we'd go to. feels like ... loss or grief ... but i'd be an entirely different person if we stayed, probably not for the better either. i was ... very angry at ... everything and everyone. all the time. " she didn't expect solas to understand but the way he spoke made it seemed like he might, like whatever she said would make perfect sense to him.

there was so much more for her to say about her feelings with being here again, but that would require opening up more and explaining more than she wanted to such as how her sister's death was why they left, or how she struggled adjusting outside of the alienage and even more in the clan with their very different way of life. the worst part of it all were the memories of her and her sisters as children. there was a time when things were simpler. not better, but vastly different. not to mention, they were all alive and together.

grief and nostalgia would be the end of her.

i got this last year on my old blog, moved it over to this one and never responded to it because for a time i genuinely didn't think lanaya was very unique (at the time). but now, i think her entire life prior to inquisition is unique -- she's a city elf, she's dalish, she's continuously facing death and grief and still manages to push forward, make new connections and fall in love. she's even able to be a sister-type figure even despite the siblings she has lost from either differences or actual death. she has a life of experiences prior to becoming the face of the inquisition. she's present when halamshiral burns, but she doesn't speak about it when blackwall and solas talk about their experiences with war. she loves being dalish, she prays to her gods, but she also loves being from val royeaux. i feel like she's separate enough from the dalish elf inquisitor pc i started with that she's very distinct. there's a lot of other things about her like her resilience, her compassion, her hope, the way she's proven wrong a lot of the time and tries to learn from that, the love she carries for many, the way she's kind but isn't always and has the capacity to be mean, angry and petty -- but those aren't entirely unique.

Collins is gone.

Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.

Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.

All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.

After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.

It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.

And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.

The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.

Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.

ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.

Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.

*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
