America’s pungent corpse flowers are all mysteriously blooming at once

Botanists across the US are trying to figure out why so many titan arums – better known as corpse flowers – are blooming simultaneously around the country this year.

This is super weird, because there have only been 157 recorded blooms ever between 1889 and 2008. But this year in the US alone, at least seven flowers have bloomed.

That’s not what it means at all, unless you’re talking about institutionalized racism. Interpersonal racism doesn’t require any structure of oppression. And how is “Becky” a well-deserved insult? Do white girls just deserve to be insulted because they’re white? That’s racist.

interpersonal racism exists within social, legal, and political structures. are interpersonal relationships somehow outside of culture? of identity? this makes no sense. also, language can be a system of oppression (as lots of feminist scholars have detailed), so interpersonal relationships can definitely be oppressive just through language alone.

and as a white girl myself, take a seat. “Becky” isn’t racist. are white women discriminated in our society based on our race? have we been structurally oppressed because of our race? NO. gender is different, but you cannot be racist against white people.

My Nordic heritage/upbringing makes it very embarrassing to admit that even though I really really really want another cup of coffee right now, having one will result in me not sleeping tonight.
