Hello everyone. I have recently received an anonymous ask from someone claiming that I have no business talking about sexual assault and rape if I choose to censor the word rape and only put TW SA in my tags as an abbreviation instead of TW rape or TW sexual assault, and that I should "take it back to TikTok." I blocked them because I didn't feel comfortable responding, but this is my explanation. I want to post this message so that no one else messages me with hate. I am a grown woman and I don't deserve to be told what my business is or isn't. You don't know me.

TLDR; it is because Tumblr refused to share my post on the tags I assigned when I used the tag "tw rape" and I noticed it after trying to fix it.

Firstly, I wrote the word rape in the actual post when I said "who r*ped E.M" and "a r*pist." I just censored one vowel. It is the same word.

I tagged it as SA instead because for some reason, in the first versions of my post, when I put "tw rape" and "tw sexual assault" in the tags, tumblr wouldn't let my post be shown in any of the tags I used for my post. I realized it could have been a tumblr censorship issue after I tried posting a few times, and I was right. If you checked my page, you would have seen that I posted about that.

I deeply believe that if it means that the post will be seen and awareness will be spread, I will censor what I have to and do my best to get the point across. Furthermore, SA is an abbreviation of sexual assault and does not diminish the value of the original word as much as the use of an entirely different word such as "grape".

YOU have no business making things up, assuming things about me, and choosing to feel morally superior by sending hate to someone who's spreading a petition to keep a rapist out of a hockey team. I have also never been on TikTok in my life. This actually IS my business as a hockey fan who cares.

I understand your concern - the diminishing of these very real terms and commodifying them into shortened versions/other words or censoring them IS a problem. I would never turn the word rape into "grape", but we must acknowledge sometimes censoring a single vowel or using SA instead of rape in the tags will mean that we can escape the discriminatory algorithm censorship and spread messages that need to be seen. Call out the social media platform, not an innocent user who has to work within its rules momentarily.
