as previously mentioned I graciously allow many people to be wrong about the hockey boys on here because I don’t care that much and it’s enriching. but I do have something to say and it’s that Shane Hollander is completely allergic to PDA after they get outed. I keep seeing cute posts about him finally getting to be out with ilya and hold his hand at awards shows and say I love you in Russian on the ice. but his ass is NOT doing that. for one thing he never loses his paranoia about being found out even after they go public and for another, what, he’s going to REMIND everyone that he’s gay? that he’s A Gay Hockey PlayerTM and probably an effeminate little bottom on account of everyone’s racist ideas about him? ilya tries to hold his hand in public and he reacts like he’s touched a hot iron and ilya is always kind of hurt by it but always understands anyway. whatever

I fucking love when people give in-universe reasons for omegaverse shenanigans being a relatively new phenomenon and not just a fact of life. And this is probably my favorite out of all of them. Insane choice, and I want to kiss the author sloppy style about it.

oh, okay. i see. you think rpf has nothing to do with you. you go on the internet and say heated rivalry rpf is immoral and invasive because you’re trying to tell the world that you care too much about these actors to read fic about them, but what you don’t know is that the rpf is not just a byproduct of their good chemistry, it's not just parasociality, it’s actually the only next logical step.

you’re also blithely unaware of the fact that, in 2011, hbo produced a documentary series about the washington capitals vs pittsburgh penguins stadium series, and then i think it was on livejournal, wasn't it, that sidney crosby/alexander ovechkin hockey rpf began to really circulate widely. and then sid/ovi rpf quickly showed up in the collection of several prolific fanfic writers. then it filtered down through tumblr and ao3 and then trickled on down to miss rachel reid herself, who no doubt was the first to be brave enough to send it to print

however, heated rivalry represents millions of works by countless hockey rpfers, and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from rpf when, in fact, you’re watching a tv show that was selected for you by the same rpfers you're condemning... from a pile of "stuff"
