Ink Circles Roll Your Own 2013 floss toss
Finally starting on my (first?) version of Tracy's Roll Your Own Mandala - it's a fab idea, and the group is still open to new members if you like those kinds of charts.
So far it seems that everyone is doing theirs in DMC, but I have absolutely no DMC stash (or any other non-overdyed cottons), and I just prefer stitching with silk, so I picked out four random color families from the NPI wall the last time I was at Acorns & Threads:
Purple: 607, 604, 601
Green: 646, 643, 641
Rose: 146, 144, 141
Blue: 615, 613, 611
Black: 998
Of course, I've already changed my fabric - I had originally planned to stitch this on 40 count Vintage Mourning Dove (shown under the threads), but I forgot how much I hate the coverage you get with black NPI on 40 count - too much show-through! So, I switched it up, and restarted on a piece of 45 count Vintage Tarnished Silver (which is a purple-gray color). Much happier with it now - only have the barest part of a corner outlined so far, so didn't bother to take a photo of that.
This is a great project if you are wanting to try picking your own colorways in a safe environment - Tracy will even make you a mock-up of your selected colorways (in DMC, at least - I don't know if she can do other threads), or you can pick from the 50+ versions already in the database!
