Korean Through Harry Potter 1: The Books

해리포터와 마법사의 돌 | Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s/Philosopher’s Stone

해리포터 | Harry Potter

와 | and (when previous word ends with a vowel, 과 when it ends in a consonant)

마법사 | wizard

의 | possessive particle

돌 | rock

This post will show you how to change nouns into verbs; if you want to see how to turn nouns into verbs, check out this post. In some cases, not all, nouns can be turned into verbs by simply adding the verb 하다 (to do).

some example words

수영 [swimming] + 하다 = 수영하다 [to swim]

모험 [adventure] + 하다 = 모험하다 [to have an adventure]

여행 [travel; traveling] + 하다 = 여행하다 [to travel]

사랑 [love] + 하다 = 사랑하다 [to love]

공부 [studying] + 하다 = 공부하다 [to study]

도착 [arrival] + 하다 = 도착하다 [to arrive]

운전 [driving] + 하다 = 운전하다 [to drive]

노래 [song] + 하다 = 노래하다 [to sing]

example sentences:

수영하러 가고 싶어요.

= I want to go swimming.

지난주에 한국에 도착했어요.

= I arrived in Korea last week.

노래하고 춤추기 너무 좋아요.

= I really like singing and dancing.

*in order to negate the verb, there are two options: add 안 between the noun and 하다 [공부 안 하다], or attach ~지 않다 to the verb stem [공부하지 않다]

Hii guys, I’m back with another korean common phrases!

✨As an advice, I’m not an educator or anything related, this is just what I’ve been self-learning and most of this sentences are in slang/informal form, so you should only use it with friends or people of intimacy!!✨

늦지마! - Don’t be late!

- 도와줘 (dowajueo) : Help me (informal)

-또? / 다시? (ddo/dashi) : again? (informal) / (formal)

- 니가 문데? (niga mwonde?) : who do you think you are? (informal-slang)

- 모르겠어 (moreugesseo) : I don’t know (informal)

-배째! (ppaejjae) : sue me! (informal-slang)

- 피곤해 (pigonhae) : I’m tired (informal)

- 너나 잘 해 (neona jal hae) : mind your own business (informal-slang)

걱정하다 to worry, to be worried/anxious

-지 마세요 use this after a verb to tell someone to don’t do sth. (말다 - to not do, to stop doing sth.)

Books for Learning Korean

Korean Grammar in Use: These books are available for three levels, beginner to early intermediate, intermediate, and advanced.

Talk to Me in Korean: They offer a wide variety of books ranging from learning Hangul, grammar, vocabulary, reading, etc… There are currently 5 levels of the grammar books published, however, you can find the other levels on their website for free.

Integrated Korean: These books are available for five levels: beginning, intermediate, advanced intermediate, advanced, and high advanced. Each level is composed of 2 books.

Korean Made Simple: A 3-part book series by GO! Billy Korean. They are available in many formats such as kindle, PDF, and a physical copy.

Ewha Korean: Textbooks and study guides created by Ewha Women’s University. There are 6 levels.

500 Basic Korean Verbs: This book teaches many verbs along with their conjugation.

✨This is not langblr related, but I definitely needed to show how pretty this church in my city is. Basílica da Penha is a neo renaissance style architectural work, inspired in Veneza churches. It makes me really proud of my country and state cause it shows he owns beauty too.
