I am a big fan of the Fantastic Beasts movies, and the wizarding world in general. I am very hopeful for a FB 4 and 5 (or at least one more so we get the duel in 1945). To that end, I truly believe FB3 box office results will play a big part in the future of this franchise.

If you have decided to avoid this movie for whatever reason, that is your prerogative. This message is for fans, like me, that want to watch more of these movies. Please go see the movie in theaters and multiple times if you can!

As a side note to anyone unsure about watching the movie, it really is an enjoyable film that is worth a watch!

SPOILER FREE Thoughts on Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

So I saw the movie yesterday, and wanted to give myself 24 hours to unpack it in my head before formulating thoughts. Here’s what I came up with:

The movie is very good/great. There is definitely room for improvement, but overall this film was enjoyable, action-packed, dramatic, and comedic. I really tried (which I know many will disagree with) to isolate just the movie, and not bring any real-world happenings into my review. Mikkelsen, Law, Williams, and Folger I believe are the best performances, although everyone does a wonderful job.

The action and adventure is intense, and so are the romantic moments. The plot at times is a bit thin, but ties together well. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and I think many others will too.

Overall: 4.2/5, would 100% recommended watching!

Alright, I have a question and I would like to know how to proceed: I 100% find JK Rowling’s words offensive, cruel, and undignified. I don’t want to support her or her beliefs in any way.

However, I started watching Fantastic Beasts from the first movie and really enjoyed them. I am invested in the plot and am excited to find out what happens next and how the story proceeds.

I would like to hear from people, especially those in the communities JK has harmed, how I should proceed. Im not asking with any malice, just curiosity. How can I go about watching the movie in a way that doesn’t support JK Rowling and her beliefs?

Crimes of Grindlewald

I saw the movie, and I agree with many, it’s got more than a few issues. However, we all need to take a few steps back and look at the whole picture:

This movie is part 2 out of 5. We are used to JK’s stories being in book form, where it is easier to drop hints and foreshadow surprises. In a film, those attempts are seen as “plot holes” or “mistakes.” We need to remember one crucial thing: SHE IS BRILLIANT!!! Her stories are detailed, complex, and full of multiple twists and turns. Let’s please give her some time to be the mind we know she is.

In terms of casting (Depp in particular) I think the movie did a fabulous job. No matter what you believe about his personal life, which is his business and we have NO idea what went down, he is one of the best character actors of all time! He played this character beautifully and brought wonderful depth and life to his story.

I understand where people are coming from when they are angry about the burial of Dumbledore and Grindlewald’s relationship. We all know Dumbledore is gay and, whether Grindelwald reciprocated or not, was desperatly in love with Gellert. Maybe they could have done more and been more open with Dumbledore being gay and that relationship, but again it’s only the second movie!!

Let’s all take a few moments to be happy about all the amazing things Rowling has given us and the world she has shared. We have three more movies, and everything can change!
