Cafe Tibstra, the cafe that never was.
I was looking through old files this morning and I came across this little typography piece (from December 2011). It was from an event that I was asked to promote, and although this isn't the final piece, I enjoyed all the exploration that came from the preliminary sketches.
Today's dilemma: I own the same phone as my mom. It can get confusing.
Solution: Spontaneously go to Lowe's, purchase spray paint, and add a little color to my cell phone. I guess I jumped on that whole DIY-everything with spray paint bandwagon.
Yes, it's a TracFone.
I took an unintentional hiatus from my design blog (my bad). But I’m back with some good news. I got a graphic design job at the Grand Rapids Public Library. Yay books! Seriously though, I’m a fan of libraries. The summer months are great for reading and I often check out too many books to read. Sometimes I’ll even pick up a book just because I like its cover. For example, The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach.
I picked up this book because,
a) I am a baseball fan.
b) I fell in love with its cover design.
I'm ashamed to say I never got around to reading it, but I'm sure it's good. The cover was designed by Keith Hayes, who did a fabulous job with the typography-based design.
I almost hit a black cat...
Insta-bad luck.
Pro Bo Mac (the name of my computer) was having heart battery failure recently. Yesterday I thought I lost him for good. He shut down on me without any warning. Ok, maybe there was a little warning up in the corner that said “No Battery" but other than that, nothing.
Turns out it wasn’t just that Pro Bo Mac’s battery was completely consumed, his power adapter wasn’t working either. Hence why I had to meet with Chris from the Apple Store last week. Chris gave Pro Bo Mac a heart transplant and since Bo’s health insurance (a.k.a. warranty) only lasted 3 years, I had fork over some money for the new battery and invest in new power adapter. I hope you were able to follow all that personification of my laptop.
This new battery is amazing though. I am no longer a slave to the power outlet.
A wicked storm cloud passed over our house today. Whenever I see lightning, I grab my camera and start shooting.
The final result. Senior seminar... done.
The Mock-Up
I passed.
I gave my presentation for my senior thesis show to the faculty today and received good feedback. I have a long ways to go as far as installing, but it will get done. It's a good day.
Here's a selection of some of our inside jokes from Serve Trip 2013. It's the best way to spend your spring break.
Coming Soon...
I'm going to open up a bagel shop.
I don't care if it's February 24, I can still say "Let it Snow".
Black Light Dance 2013.
Philippians 4:6-7. Hopefully this will be a constant reminder to me during my final semester.
The First Day of Senior Seminar
Oh man... here we go.
The Italy Awards
This January, I went on a trip to Italy. It was a fantastic experience and our Trinity group got along really well together. On the 10 hour flight back, a small group of us appointed awards for everyone on the trip. I drew the awards somewhere over the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Anyway, I got the videographer award for being the girl to randomly take out her camera and capture fun moments. Later I put a little video compilation together.
