Popuri stared at the other in awe for a moment, completely mesmerized by the color of the other’s hair. It was just so… Adorable! She wondered if it was natural or had just been dyed that shade of red… Shaking off her curiosity on the subject, the girl offered a smile to the stranger and spoke up cheerfully, “Hi, I’m Popuri! It’s nice to meet you.”

Cat`s large brown eyes twinkled in excitement.

This girl...! She was just .. adorable! Absolutely adorable! Her hair was such a cute shade of pink, and her eyes were so wide and-- and--

"You`re so cute!" She just couldn`t keep it to herself. Cat always had a hard time keeping her thoughts in her head, where they belonged.

“Hi, I’m Popuri! It’s nice to meet you.”

Oh, right! Introductions! "It`s really nice to meet you too! My name is Cat!" The redhead smiled in an inviting manner. It`d be really nice to have a friend around here, and this girl seemed like a perfect candidate!

okay, she’s on speed or something. wow. she’s insane. i could hardly keep up with what she said. it started normal. ‘i’ve never seen you around here’ kind of thing. but then

her: hey, what’s your favorite animal? i think giraffes are really cute! or, no wait━ whales!

jesus. fucking. christ. i feel like i need a ritalin just from talking to her.

me: um… i don’t think i have a favorite animal.

wait, what? i don’t live here?

me: well, i mean, i live here now. but i am new, yeah. not by choice, though.

The male before her seemed a bit startled. It took him a while before answering. And a rather upsetting answer, at that.

Um… I don’t think I have a favorite animal.

What! What kind of a human being didn`t have a favorite animal? Cat`s lips puckered into a childish pout, and playfully put her hands on her hips.

"Well, I`ll give you time to think about it! This is a really important question!" She spoke with false sternness.

Seconds after she burst into a fit of giggles. As her laughter began to cease, she began to wonder what his last statement meant. Most of the people who were housing at the orphanage weren`t there by choice. More by necessity than anything.

"But, where else would you go if you weren`t here?"

From what she knew, there weren`t any other homes available for those considered 'adolescent'. There were only adult apartments, which they weren`t allowed in.

█ ▪▪ BABY → IT`S COLD OUTSIDE (open/event)

It`s so cold! Why`s it so cold all of a sudden?

Cat had just gotten off her shift at the candy store and was on her way back to the orphanage. The orphanage was only about fifteen minutes away, but at this rate, the redhead felt as if she`d rather just run back to the store. It was much warmer in there than it was out on these empty streets.. But then again, there wasn`t a cozy bed waiting for her at the candy shop.

The teenager continued to tread on, rubbing her arms with her gloved hands, but even that wasn`t helping. She let out an audible groan, watching the puff of vapor appear before her lips. "I wanna be home already!" A huge pout plastered itself over her mouth which was usually adorned with such a vibrant smile. Cat had always preferred the summer over the winter time, even though she did love wearing those cute gloves that came in assorts of colors.

Her fingers had started going numb at this rate and she was just getting more frustrated. It took a lot to get her into a bad mood, but with this horrible weather, it seemed almost inevitable. She brought her gloved hands up in front of her mouth and began to breathe heavily into them. It wasn`t really helping much, but she felt a bit better knowing she was making an effort to keep her little fingers nice and warm.

Now that she looked off again, she could see a figure in the distance. From where she stood, she could hardly make out the face of the other individual. All she could hope was that that person had an extra coat!

"Hello?" She called out a first time. "Hello?" And once more even louder, just in case said person hadn`t heard her the first time.

she has red hair. and her smile looks like it’s about to fucking take over her face. i mean really! she looks like she’s made of sunshine and flowers and happy or some shit.

this is gonna be like yin and yang. i just hope she doesn’t expect me to dance around and play games, or, oh god. what if she wants me to be her gay bffl? bitch, that is not happening.

lots of girls decided i simply HAD to be their hbffl (homo best friend for life) when i came out, but that didn’t last long when they noticed my lack of a fashion sense.

"Oh, hi, Will ..! I`ve never seen you around before!" The redhead paused for a brief moment. "Well, not that there are many people around but━ I`m Cat!"

It didn`t take long for the girl to become slightly curious as to who this guy was. She started on with a few of her meaningless questions. "Hey, what`s your favorite animal? I think giraffes are really cute! Or, no wait━ whales!" She smiled to herself, and laughed before looking back at her new acquaintance.

Another thought crossed her mind. "Wait, you don`t live here, do you? Or are you new?"

Rin was sort of taken back by the enthusiasm of the person she was now speaking to, but adjusted quickly and easily enough. It was nice to see someone who wasn’t phased by the apparent post-apocalyptic news they must have received upon awakening, not like what she would have expected. After hearing about a nuclear bomb, people would have been scared, wouldn’t they? Scared for their family and friends? Regardless, people with enthusiasm in any situation were fun.

“Uhh, thanks! Your hair’s pretty cool too!”

Rin made the effort of returning the sudden an unexpected compliment, following quickly in the direction of where the girl was going after motioning for her to follow. She was happy strangers were willing to help her find her twin. Rin had to giggle a bit at the thought of Len wearing short shorts…of course, she’d seen him in pretty similar outfits before, but him in anything girly was entertaining to her.

“He’s my brother, see, twin actually! So that’s why we look alike! And thanks for wanting to help me find him, that’s real nice of you!”

“My name’s Rin, by the way, Rin Kagamine! What’s your’s?”

If everyone acted this way, the blond would for sure make some new friends quickly. And this person was exactly the type she’d like to make friends with! And also, credit where it was due. Wasn’t it sort of an odd thing to agree to help find someone like that without really knowing them at all? Or wasn’t it? Well, either way, not like Rin was going to question it.

"Wow, thank you!" Her high pitched voice was followed by a few giggles. She`d stopped walking now, to face the blonde girl before her. The smile glued to her face widened even more than before with the next comment. A twin? That was definitely a surprise to her.

The redhead gasped. "No way! That`s super cool!" She paused for a second, reminiscing for a second about a silly story that had happened with her brother and a set of twins. She thought about telling the other girl, but suddenly felt sad at the memory. She didn`t know where her brother was, either, and she still hadn`t gotten used to living without seeing him around.

Her expression suddenly turned gloomy, and she stared down at the ground for a few seconds. "I hope he`s okay ..."

As soon as she`d heard the other`s voice again, she returned to her natural cheery self.

“My name’s Rin, by the way, Rin Kagamine! What’s your’s?”

"Oh, my name`s Cat! Well, it`s actually Caterina, but my grandma was the only one to ever call me that." A bit of useless information was always key in a conversation with Cat. "It`s really great to meet you!"

She looked left and right for a second. "So.. Do you have any idea at all where your brother might be?"

Welcome to Civilization 9, they said. You survived a nuclear explosion but you’re fine now, they said. Sure, the survivor part sounded great, but that hadn’t been all they said. Yeah, being alive was great and all, but hearing the news about the civilization’s main goal being procreation…that really didn’t sound great at all to Rin. Especially the part about being given a spouse. There’s no way they were being serious about that, though. People can’t just decide that type of thing for someone, not anymore! Besides, she apparently didn’t have to live with them…though, it would have probably been a lot better to live in an apartment instead of an orphanage. Too bad she wasn’t older.

All that could be worried about later, though, none of it seemed of utmost importance right away. Right now, the blond was more curious about finding other people she knew. The others had to be here, she couldn’t be here alone, there’s no way! Especially Len. He was the first person she wanted to find, but not knowing where to look (she wasn’t exactly familiar with the place at all yet) was going to pose a problem or two. Asking someone if he’d been seen was probably a good idea. Besides, describing her twin to someone was an easy task. So, with that, she darted over to the first person she saw and gave them a light tap on the shoulder.

“Hey, ‘scuse me, but have you seen a boy around here about my height? Looks a lot like me, dressed sorta like me? If not, d’you think you could help me find him?”

Tap, tap.

The moment the red haired girl felt the light touch on her shoulder, she turned around, facing the other girl before her. Her big brown eyes were wide, and full of interest. This girl was new! She had never seen her around before. They were almost the same height, and she looked to be around the same age as her, too. And she had such pretty hair! Cat`s lips curved into a smile, opening her mouth to speak.

"Wow, your hair is such a pretty color!" The words were almost blurted out, followed by a few short laughs.

Cat was never much of a subtle person, and she tended to speak what was on her mind, inappropriate or not. In all her excitement, she almost completely forgot the reason the new girl had even come up to her. 

"Hey, ‘scuse me, but have you seen a boy around here about my height? Looks a lot like me, dressed sorta like me? If not, d`you think you could help me find him?"

"A boy who looks like you? No, but why would there be a boy who looks like you? I can`t imagine a boy wearing such short shorts.."

Cat`s eyebrows furrowed, giving a worried expression. It`d just be plain weird to see a boy dressed like her! But, if that`s what she was looking for ...

It wasn`t long before her smile had returned.

"But I`ll help you look around! If he`s here, i`m sure we`ll find him!" She quickly took her by the hand and tugged her along, motioning with her free hand. "Come on, come on!"
