Hero songs are always “My life is horrible but I hope it’ll get better someday!” while villain songs are like “Everyone better get the fuck out of my way because I’m gonna be rad as hell no matter what you try to do!”, which is why villain songs are so great for motivation.  You wanna be proactive, you gotta have villains singing in your ears.

This is why everyone loved “Let It Go” - it’s structurally a villain song, but we can root for the character singing it because they aren’t trying to murder children, so no one looks at you weird when you sing it in the car and get really passionate at the part where the character mentions their plans to eat a whole baby or whatever.

I still really wish they’d been brave enough to let Elsa go full villain.

I’d argue that the Japanese version of Let It Go has even more villain energy.
