(Both blogs are visually similar btw, so just look for the differences in the url. Just a heads up.)

(Iāll make a more put together and detailed drawing of her some other time.)
i do genuinely think itās interesting that out of the four main characters in hxh, kurapika is the only one weāve never seen shirtless. likeā¦even when leorio started running w/ his shirt off in the hunter exam saying that he realized he can go on if he stops caring about whether he looks weird and kurapika decided to follow his lead, he only took off the outer layer of his clothing
meaning heās still running in a long sleeve shirt. depending on the material, thatās not necessarily much of an improvement, and itās a detail thatās keptĀ consistent between versions. even in the official two page spread from the manga of the main four at the beach, where itās pretty typical for guys to go shirtless, heās the only one still wearing a shirt
none of this is necessarily significant in and of itself. even though (cis) male shirtlessness is very normalized in many contexts (and the hxh world seems to follow similar rules to irl in this regard), thereās definitely people who are more self-conscious about that sort of thing than others, and thereās also a cultural component. kurta culture being very traditional and rule-oriented, itās certainly possible that they have more restrictive rules regarding male modesty than other parts of the world.Ā that being saidā¦
thereās one exception to the No Shirtless Kurapikas rule, and i think itās interesting
itās a really beautiful manga cover, definitely falling under artistic nudity. butā¦while we all know about anime nipples (a.k.a.Ā āitās okay to show bare chests as long as thereās no nippleā), itās worth noting that his chest is drawn with no detail at all, which stands out given the otherwise detailed anatomy of the rest of the drawing. thereās no line between his upper chest and his arm, even. His Chest Is The Void.
conclusion: kurapika is Definitely Trans.
I doubt this. Even while clothed, Kurapikaās figure is masculine. Even on this cover. Look at all the females in the series. (Not including Alluka for obvious reasons.) They clearly have a feminine figure. Their breasts and curves are obvious. It is highly plausible that Kurapika is just androgynous. The Kurta clan, as the post points out, appear to be traditional. So he would most likely never use hormone suppressors. I guess you could say that he tapes down his ābreastsā but I doubt it. We see him as a child. Compared to the females in that one shot, does he at all look like he has a similar body figure? No. His body is more similar to Pairoās. Are you claiming that Pairo is trans, too?
HxH is recognized as having diverse and interesting characters, all unique and each stand out for particular reasons. Is it so hard to believe that Kurapika is just an androgynous male? Why does he HAVE to be trans and not just be his own person, with his own features that he was born with? That post is nothing but pure speculation with many biases. The cover, where he supposedly has no noticeable details (Even though he does, right there. Just look near the left of his hand. Clearly defined lines for his chest and abs.) is Togashiās stylistic choice.
I hope the original post is just a joke and Iām blowing this way out of proportion because itās four in the morning and I should be asleep right now and Iām hungry af. Just to clarify, I donāt mean this to be an insult to the OP, just criticism to what was written by them. Itās just, when people say stuff like this, itās as if theyāre insulting Togashiās high level of writing ability and all the thought heās put into the story, character design, and world building. (Just like the crazies who so desperately want Pitou to be 100% female.)
BUT WHO KNOWS. I could be wrong about ALL of this and the next chapter could be a flashback of Kurapika struggling with his gender identity. However, I highly doubt it.
1. bruh itās literally a headcanon more thanĀ āthis is definitely canon.ā anything in the post that sounds like iām saying otherwise is facetiously worded
2. trans men are notĀ āfemales.ā why would togashi draw kurapika like a woman if heās a trans man. why do you think kurapika binding is so implausible (also binding using tape is a terrible idea)
3. bruh if you want to use the flashback as evidence he was literally a child. thereās a thing called puberty, you know. (thereās also a thing called hormone therapy. did kurta village have access to it? probably not. but kurapika literally left the village as a child, so itās entirely possible he started on them relatively early in puberty
4. pairo could be trans too for all i care but thatās not the point. bc he is an exceedingly minor character and doesnāt haveĀ evidence to back it up like kurapika does
5. literally so what if itās just speculation. if a trans person wants to speculateĀ āoh hey this character could be like me,ā why does it bother you so much
6. while i understand what youāre saying about pitou, for the love of god donāt say shit likeĀ ā100% femaleā
7. if it has such a cast ofĀ ādiverse and interesting characters,ā why is possibly having two canon trans characters that much more implausible than having one
Yeah, I understood you meant it as headcanon, but you presented it as if it were fact. I had an issue with that.
Anyway, trans men were born female. Biologically, that's how it is. Professional artists draw from life. While drawing a trans character, I would argue that it's important to keep in mind what the character was born as and go from there. It's more real, that way. And I meant "tapeing" as just the action because I didn't know what it was called. You're nitpicking.
Yeah, I get that people go through puberty. But are you suggesting that at the age of twelve, it's impossible to tell if a child is male or female? And imagining Kurapika taking the time away from thinking about his vendetta in order to gather the necessary funds to transition is laughable. All Kurapika cares about is avenging his clan and getting their eyes back, not even caring if he dies in the process. Do you think that he actually loves himself enough to care about transitioning? That just seems completely out of character for him. (I used too many "cares," I know.)
It doesn't bother me that you would love for Kurapika to be trans. What was bothering me was how flawed your theory, oh excuse me, "headcanon" was and how you used tiny itty bitty stylistic choices to justify how it can be true when it just wasn't. And for the record, I didn't even know you were trans. However, that has nothing to do with what you originally typed and you never even stated such in the original post.
I only said "100% female" because I didn't want to go over all the many theories and speculations of Pitou's gender issues within the fandom. Saying that was just quicker. But even then, what was so offensive about it?
Togashi is really good at writing characters that are strikingly human in their decisions and emotions. And that's REALLY hard to do. The world is filled with many different types of people, which he's managed to capture the feel of in HxH. Adding an androgynous character to the mix is more human and fits well. Why is it so hard to believe that there could be a male, who identifies as male, but who also happens to have facial features similar to females? Is that not any more realistic than having two trans characters?

very fucking tired of female characters having to be younger and smaller than their male counterparts
also very fucking tired of female space marines, warriors, and knights having no muscles whatsoever compared to their ripped, beefy male counterparts.
also very fucking tired of female characters being introduced as qualified professionals but never get a chance to show their abilities
also very fucking tired of female characters who are taller, bigger, bulkier, etc. not being considered attractive
Answers in order of posts:
1) Lady Lunafreya from FFXV is older and wiser than the male protagonist Noctis. Also, puberty makes men taller than women. Look at a kindergarten or pre-k class and you'll see the opposite. Girls get growth spurts earlier. That's just how it is.
Palutena, from Kid Icarus, is a goddess who is tall and clever and has the male main character, the angel, Pit, waiting on her every need. (Their "dynamic duo" thing is also quite cute.)
2) Bisky from HxH is one of the "beefyist" female characters I've ever seen and is definitely stronger than the main male characters.
Zarya from OW is beefier than the majority of the male cast.
3) Once again, I refer to Bisky from HxH who, not only is the mentor of the main characters, she also gets to show off her skills in battle and whoop two men.
Although I haven't watched it in a while, I remember Black Lagoon having several badass women who showed off their skills quite often in the series.
One more example would be the major, Motoko Kusanagi, from Ghost in the Shell.
4) ...by who? You? After all, you brought it up. One thing that always confuses me about feminism is the fact that they want less attractive female characters in shows and games, but then get angry when people call those characters unattractive. It's just like, what the hell were you expecting?
Even then, beauty is subjective. You're gonna be into whatever you're into. And if a large majority of people find a certain thing attractive/unattractive, you can't get mad at them for that. It's like you're angry at them for being human.
Apologies that I mainly used anime as examples but I don't really watch a whole lot of other genres.
