This post is kinda from a while ago but it is absolutely still a thing. Often you’ll see signs on the side of the road that are advertising for a “modeling agency” with just a phone #, or postings around colleges advertising “student jobs starting at $16 an hour” (with, again, only a phone number listed- no address or even a company name), or e-mails from someone with the same name as one of your existing contacts, but with a different actual e-mail address. There are a lot of variations on this.

The point is, stay safe! Be aware of who you give your information to and how much information you have on them. If you even minorly suspect anything or feel uncomfortable, report that shit. Report it to whoever the relevant authorities are- block and report the user on whatever social media outlet you’re using, report the phone number to your service provider. Even if these people persist through other usernames or phone numbers, at least one of their avenues has been removed.

Oh, and don’t ever feel obligated to give out information! It’s important to remember that you don’t owe anyone anything, especially because sometimes they’re persistent. And always do your research when you see something like this and ask others’ advice before agreeing to anything. They may know more than you or notice something you don’t.
