“Uhh, four or five years give or take, you?” It was weird to talk about living on the street, since most people did not want to know about the dirty facts.

   “If you think this is bad, you should see the other guy    Oh fuck!” He groaned obnoxiously, attempting to wiggle from her tending hands. The wound was shallow but long and jagged, for it extended from just above his naval to the center of his chest. Panos snorted a chuckle at the thought of the wound, after it would’ve been healed, as being an addition to his collection of scars. Sighing heavily (and regretting it), he threw himself back on the couch. “You’re pretty nifty with… healing.” He rolled his eyes at his ridiculousness.

“We all have a little child in all of us,” he teasingly wiggled his finger at her, a grave expression striking his features hastily afterwards. “and it’s that child’s fear that makes me a psychotic, stone cold killer.” Panos smiled then. It was a content smile, oddly enough, that was laced with a mischievousness. “People aren’t really afraid of me, until they know who I really am.” He offered a weak shrug, the smile still tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Blinking at the very much psychotic male, “Right. Well then.” Kel was getting far to used to his shit, at least he didn’t giggle. Hearing a grown man giggle was just odd. Squinting at the cut as it dipped to one side before poking at it with the needle, “How did you even do this? Where you fighting a Russian mob member? I saw some of their knife fighters, tricky little bastards.” She was so going to need alcohol after this.

                “Hey! You know how bad I am with letters!” He protested, reminding her of his terribly scrawled and almost illegiable, dreadfully spelt writing. He’s laughing as he’s crushed into one of her classic hugs and his arms cling wrap around her waist tightly —- holding her as close as he possibly could. “I didn’t know you called. My phone broke and you know I ain’t no good with technology crap.” 

                  Drover can feel people’s eyes on them both, but he’s no idea why they’ve chosen the two of them to be the main viewing right now. He’s oblivious to silly things like his appearance: to him, looks meant nothing. And if anything, he never thought he looked particularily attractive. So he can’t grasp why people were starting to hover so close to them with their eyebrows arched, watching in complete confusion at their reuiniting moment. 

                  “How’ve you been, eh? You been meetin’ all the boys and going out every day?” He teases her, finally letting go as he pulls away from her embrace. “I bet you’re awful popular around here, with your looks and your sass and you’re wonderfulness.”

Slapping his arm even as they hugged, “I would have been content with a gas station post card you ass!” Honestly Kel didn’t want to let go, she wanted to stand here in this hug forever. It had been months since she had any actual physical human affection at least since the rumors started. But dragging Drover down with her was the very last thing she wanted and people were going to talk no matter what but she didn’t have to give them any more ammo. 

Glaring at anybody who was looking their way hands clenched into fists on reflex, “Yeah not so much I’m pretty sure you’re the only one with anything positive to say to me right now.” Kel was about to make another sarcastic remark when the bell rang, “Oh please tell me you are up for skipping school.”

         He’s not seen her for years. He’s no idea what she’ll think of him now —- now that he’s not spoken to her in  f o r e v e r  & now that he’s suddenly appeared back home, and by her side. So he finds himself at the beginning of school —- after actually arriving early for once —- leaning against the cold metal of her locker as he waits… and waits. Until…

         A smirk grows on his face as he turns around and shoves his free calloused hand in his pocket, the other resting against her locker, as he looks her in the eye for the first time in a long time. She’s changed so much; far more beautiful, far older looking but she still has the same amount as sass that he remembers from his childhood. He’s changed too of course —- far more muscly from his labour, more tanned, his hair curlier, taller; the list was endless.

          “Well, I can if ya want.” He says to her, his southern accent thicker than usual. “But d’ya want me to go away again?” He teases, offering her one of his grins —– the ones which were so rare to find when he wasn’t around her.

Kel was just about to make another remark when the male turned around, shit he was hot. It took her a few seconds for her brain to catch up with the thought of ‘this is actually happening.’ he was back he was actually back and standing right in front of her.  Kel was distantly away that people where staring at them, she had no doubt they were wondering what the new hottie was doing hanging out with the resident social piranha. 

“You absolute ass.” Was what she finally settled on then punched him, hard. “You could write to me at all? Seriously? I called you all the time but nooo!” After yelling at him thoroughly Kel practically tackled him in a fierce hug, “You aren’t allowed to go away again.”

Head held high clenching and un-clenching her fists Kel had to resist the urge to punch, hit, bite and scratch at the people who used to be her ‘friends’. She was out of school for a week and somehow a rumor got started that she was pregnant and dropped out, even worse when she came back everybody assumed that she had an abortion. In the beginning of the year puberty was kind to her and she had fallen in love with mixed martial arts the results were boobs and a toned body. After that girls wanted to be friends with her and guys wanted to be near her, not that it mattered anymore not after her best friend left months ago. 

Hallways started to look more like a gauntlet since she came back so Kel had started going only once in the morning and then again after most people had left after hiding in the library. It was her first locker stop and somebody was blocking it, back to her leaning. “Hey, can you move? Go slouch somewhere else.”

Pointing the way towards the Chinese as it was about 2 blocks away, she wasn’t too put out about having her shopping interrupted. She still wasn’t used to being able to pay so much at one time. “Sure, I remember what it’s like. I only reticently got an actual job and been able to pay for rent and food.”

“Really?” Myna had been offered things before-usually by greasy men with stained couches and ulterior motives. She didn’t always have the luxury of saying no. While this woman didn’t fit the profile of abductee, one could never be too cautious. “Can we walk there?”

“I mean I did cost you that cheese, and if you go back to that store too soon then they’ll be more on guard.” Not to mention she looks like she’s been on the road for a while, Kel had a pull out couch back at her little apartment and she doesn't have a single thing in the apartment worth stealing. No any and all valuables Kel may have collected over the years is safe in one of her caches. “Sure, there’s a five guys burger place or a half decent all you can eat Chinese place. I’m Kel by the way.”

Desperate Times

Kel had just started her weekly shopping, grabbing the usual things rice cheese other staples that lurked around her fridge. It was a little mix matched since she wasn’t entirely sure what should go in a well stocked fridge seeing as she never really had one. It wasn’t long since she’d spread her roots here, sure Kel had drifted on the streets more than once in this area but she never actually owned a place it was odd. Walking the same few areas more than once and not checking for cops, well, not for the reason she used to check for cops. As far as they were concerned she was an upstanding respectable citizen.

Kel was trying to decide what kind of cereal to buy when she saw out of the corner of her eye another drifter, she knew the look. Shoes about worn through but the dead give away was the panic and then acceptance at being caught, she’d been at this a while then. Kel had to admit her form was top notch she almost didn’t notice her drop her bag at first leaving all evidence and more likely any ties to her at the crime scene. Abandoning her cart and without looking down or breaking stride she grabbed the woman’s purse and followed after. Knowing better than to try and yell out when the other turned Kel tossed her purse back to her, “Not sure the string cheese was worth it. If you’re going to lift might as well go big.” Or at least filling.

How the hell-Myna was too shocked to respond right away, and she hadn’t done the best job of catching the bag. Fumbling to place it back on her shoulder, she mumbled, “It’s not like I have anywhere to cook a turkey.” The woman wasn’t snarky, like she was relishing the idea of turning Myna in. Most people were too afraid of confrontation and would have reported her without a word. “If I get caught, I have to be able to pay for what I grabbed.” Multiple hits at multiple stores was the only way she stayed fed, really

Ignoring the fumble but nodding her agreement at the reason, kel never really worried about being caught. I mean it wasn’t like she couldn’t just knock them out and disappear. “That makes sense, I used to go after a lot of things at once and only hit every now and then. I was also arrogant as hell so I mean there’s that.” The few times she was caught she didn’t stay caught long, between magic and what her parents taught her she normally didn’t even make it into the police cruiser. “So since I bailed on my grocery shopping to get you your purse back you want to grab a bite to eat? I promise I’ll pay.” Honestly she wanted gossip about some of the people in her old life, and the best way to get it was through other street wanderers.

Desperate Times

She had a thorough system when it came to shop lifting: Always pretend to put something back or be walking when you slip it into your bag; always wait till you’re alone in the aisle; always buy something, even if it’s just a candy bar. Most importantly, she had to get in and get out within ten minutes. This kept anyone from paying attention to her motions. 

Myna rounded the corner of an aisle, her hand dropping a packet of string cheese into her bag when she made eye contact with another woman. She saw, Myna knew she had. If there was even the slightest chance she would do something about it, Myna faced arrest. She hadn’t always been so skilled at shoplifting. 

Two options: she could pay for everything she had managed to stow away already, hopefully having enough cash, or she could ditch the whole bag and get out in under twenty seconds. With maybe a five dollar bill in her pocket, and very heavy regrets, she turned to walk back towards the exit, dropping her bag discreetly to the floor as she went.

“No, that’d be more work on my part then. I will however pour salt on it if you don’t stop wiggling.” Stopping for a moment to look up at him before shaking her head and going back to her stitches. “You know it’s a wounder you’re still alive, you’re like a really bad fungus or maybe a cockroach.” It really was a wounder he was alive if he never actually took care of his injuries considering some of the shit holes she sometimes saw him in for jobs. A small smile played at the corner of her lips, Kel figured she would need a drink seeing as she was half way done with the cut and he couldn’t keep still to save his life. “Sure but you’re buying.”

All he could do was wince at her threat. The last time he went to the beach and had a scrape on his knee. When he stepped in the water, it was like someone dipped his scrape in acid. Or he was simply being melodramatic. “Ooo    “ he fluttered his fingers, “I prefer being compared to a cockroach. At least people are afraid of me.” And commence the strange, slightly maniacal silent laughter that had his shoulders painfully bouncing and his stomach tightening.  Ah yes, he was the King of Dweebs. “Yeah. Totally. I mean, it’s the least I could do for you since you healed me up.” And so he ended the statement with a silly grin and nod.

Smirking at the look on his face from underneath her eyelashes, there was something satisfying in how such a childish threat made him react. “I cannot believe you are a renown and feared assassin. You are the biggest child I have ever met in my entire life.” As Kel continued to ‘heal’ him or as she worded it patched up the idiot. “Really how is it people are afraid of you, I mean sure your unhinged and can kill somebody with both hands tied but still. You do not have the personality of a stone cold contract killer.” Or maybe her did and she was the one who was weird.

Panos groaned at the promise of a new wound, tossing his head  to one side and throwing her an obnoxiously childish smile. “You wouldn’t really do that    would you?” He feigned fear, biting his lip to stop a laugh from fluttering from his mouth. “Yeah, I should probably learn myself. I kinda just let things heal on their own    put Neosporin on them or whatever, sometimes.” He shrugged slowly, slightly afraid of ruining the patchwork on his abdomen.
