Remembering Kuchel Ackerman on Mother's Day
A headcanon in honor of the woman who did everything for Levi Ackerman despite the little time she had in life
*It's Mother's Day tomorrow and being the busy person I am and writing this advance.
Levi would never be in this world if it weren't for Kuchel.
Kuchel who happened to bear the cursed Ackerman name that led to the hunt of her family and relatives just because they were against the Royal Family.
Tragic that in order to flee she ended in the Underground where the only way to survive was to do any means possible.
And by any means, we all know canonically she ended up as a prostitute.
Life in the Underground is already challenging for one person. What more if you have someone with you as well?
Kuchel could have had her child aborted when she found out she's pregnant. She didn't even know the damn father. She could have Zeke's mindset to not bring an innocent soul into such a wretched world.
She was single and had no one with her. Yes, Kenny visits her but he has his own pursuits in life. He even hinted for her to get rid of the kid inside her.
But Kuchel decided to continue her pregnancy. She may have no steady job or her child may get into her way of living but one thing is sure: her child deserved to live.
And she would do her best to give him the life he deserved.
These were her thoughts as she holds her baby boy in her arms.
Tears fell from her eyes and for the first time, she found purpose in living in this world: to be the best mother she could be for her son.
Levi. Means joined or united. Hair as dark as hers. Her carbon copy.
Kuchel is finally united with him.
Though she refrains from sharing her family name. The name that would bring great danger to her loving son. He will only be known as Levi and his life would have men join together in harmony.
The first four years were the best years in her life. Seeing her baby boy grow, teaching him how to speak, spending loving moments together.
How painful it is that her days with Levi were cut short. It must have burdened Kuchel that she would be leaving her son alone and vulnerable.
How lamenting that if her son would survive, she would not get to meet his friends, celebrate his achievements, comfort him in hard times
All that Kuchel ever wanted is to be with her son and let him see and feel how he will always be special to her.
And she was his world too.
"Damn, you've lost a ton of weight since last time, Kuchel."
At the age of four, Levi lost his mother.
One day she was up and going then today, her eyes no longer opened.
Levi was no fool. His mother was getting thinner and despite him shaking her to get up, she no longer budged or moved an inch.
He could have shed a tear but his grief was too deep to be able to cry.
Levi thought he'd die too if it weren't for Kenny.
And because he was given a chance to continue in life, he did his best to live using any means possible.
He is strong. He is strategic. He is powerful.
Though he doesn't understand why, oblivious of his family background.
His mother fought for him. His mother struggled in order for him to live.
So Levi Ackerman continues on living despite the harsh realities of this world.
He understands that life is precious, and one deserves to be given the chance to fight for his or her life.
Just like what his mother did for him.
Kuchel may have withheld the knowledge of the Ackerman name to her son.
But humanity hails Levi as its strongest.
Such burden of a title yet Levi gives all of him to that label.
As he honors the strength his mother Kuchel bore with her.
Until her last moments with him.
