BACKSTORY (tw death, cancer)
The oldest of the Jones siblings, Harrison grew up among wealth and privilege thanks to the foundations laid by the successes of his lawyer father. His mother had relinquished her career as a hairdresser when she fell pregnant with Harrison and decided to shift her focus to being a stay at home mother.
While his next sibling was born a few years after him, the bond between Harrison and his mother had always been a special one. Amanda recalled Harrison being quite a simple baby; easily pleased and not much of a crier. She often recounted her experiences with him as a baby in later years; describing him as a toddler with intelligence beyond his age, but he had always laughed it off as parental bias.
Being the only boy among three younger sisters never phased Harrison and he credited them for the patience, sensitivity and level-headedness he'd developed over the years. He often acted as mediator when they would fight, and also found himself playing the role of family counsellor when any of them had a problem. The Jones family as a whole were a tight unit; while their dad was an incredibly busy man, he made sure he never missed a family dinner or major event.
Harrison was well-liked at school, he wasn't very sports inclined but his charm and intelligence won people over without having to try. While he never had a desire to follow in his father's footsteps and study law, he had grand ambitions of his own and after being awarded valedictorian for his graduating class, he was accepted into Harvard to study architecture. It was difficult for him to leave his family for college, but his mother had almost insisted that he go and make a life for himself outside of Nashville.
TW DEATH: Harrison was about to start his final year of college when his life came to a halt. The call from his father asking if he could come home as his mother had become ill. He deferred his semester immediately and made his way back to Hidehill, unaware of how serious her condition was until he was sat shoulder to shoulder with his sisters on the family couch. Terminal cancer. With only a few months left to live. He was shattered, but did his best to make the most of those last few months with the family altogether. The whole family took the loss hard, each grieving in different ways. He found it too difficult to remain in the family home and withdrew himself, renting an apartment in Hartley Avenue before going back to Massachusetts to finish his final year.
While at Harvard, Harrison had run into an old friend from home: Nadia Kucuk. What had started as a nostalgic friendship eventually blossomed into a relationship. She was beautiful, with an intelligence and determination that matched and sometimes challenged his, and she was a warm reminder of home. The pair built a life together post college but as they began to excel in their respective careers, they started to drift apart. Harrison got a job based in New York and Nadia was often having to flit between Massachusetts and Washington for hers. While the distance wasn't a big issue, the constant absence became a strain on their relationship. Harrison wasn't willing to give up the career path he was on and while he wanted to be selfish and ask her to give hers up for him, he wasn't a hypocrite, and wasn't going to hold her back. Ending things with Nadia broke his heart so much that when an opportunity arose within his company to transfer to their English branch he took it without a second thought; justifying to himself that an ocean between them was what they both needed to flourish.
