CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC FOUNDATION

I am a huge fan of what Charlotte has done with her brand. It’s a brand you’ll often see me using both on my channel and in my pro kit. I think one of the main reasons it’s been so successful so quickly is that she understands what women want, and all her products have a notion of simplicity to them, making them easy to use whilst still offering a pro finish! 

The Magic Foundation is the latest launch, offering buildable coverage that evens out the skin, creating a flawless canvas. It covers scars, uneven pigmentation, acne and redness beautifully, without masking the skin. The finish is a demi matte, satin finish that also lasts superbly well! It comes in 15 shades and contains SPF 15. If you’re looking for a foundation that offers you great coverage with a weightless fell this may just be the foundation you’ve been waiting for!

H&M THE BEAUTY DEPARTMENT

The H&M Beauty Department comprises of all things beauty, from skincare, Haircare, To Bodycare, Makeup and even beauty Tools. I went to browse in the Oxford Circus London store but the great news is they also sell online.

If i’m being honest though, I was there for one thing, and one thing only, the makeup!!! It was very hard to restrain myself and not buy it all but the key pieces I chose to purchase were pieces I felt would work really well for Autumn. So what caught my eye????

Firstly the Eye Colour Palette in Aubergine Dream, a gorgeous palette filled with plums and cranberry rust shades, a mix of matte and shimmers, this did not disappoint. I have since tested the shadows (one eye with eye primer underneath and one eye without) and i’m happy to say both eyes applied just as easy, blended beautifully and lasted!

The second product was the Cream Lip Colour in 003 Cream Chestnut (a sort of your lips but better shade that leant towards a more brown tone, perfect for AW) this is AMAZING!!!!!So buttery, moisturising and has the feel of a high end lipstick!

Third was the Perfectionist Finishing Powder which did just that, its lightweight and sheer.

Fourth was the Velvet Lip Cream which is the only product I bought that I think still needs a little work on, the colour was a gorgeous dark berry (called Dare Me) and as a huge lover of liquid lipsticks I had high hopes for this, but alas minutes after applying it left my lips dry and crumbling and didn't last as I would have hoped.

The last thing bought it back though, and that is the Lip Definer in Bramble Ripple, another deep berry shade which had a very smooth matte formula which I actually like all over the lip so i’ll use this as my berry lip instead.

I guess to sum up 4 amazing products out of 5 isn’t bad at all, the whole range is really affordable, the packaging is simple yet chic (very monochrome) and apart from the Velvet Lip cream, I will be going back to buy more, especially the eye palettes and cream lip colours, I am officially hooked!!!!

THE PERFECT SHADE FOR AUTUMN 

Ciate London Olivia Palermo ‘New England Fall’ is the perfect unexpected Autumn nail shade. Don’t get me wrong, I will always love a rouge noir nail but each season I like to have a nail colour that is a little bit more unexpected and this is it. Firstly the packaging is gorgeous, secondly the brush on this is amazing, it’s the perfect shape for creating a pro finish and thirdly the colour..well, it’s divine! I’d describe it as a mix between royal and navy blue and it really does go well with everything in my Autumn wardrobe. I will be reporting back on the rest of the range very soon but this definitely gets the HMIU seal of approval!

THE TRANSITIONAL MAKEUP BAG EDIT

Technically yes, it is still considered summer, but London has been very grey and rainy so in a bid to give myself something to look forward to, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to give my makeup bag a few Autumnal edits and maybe give you a few ideas too on how you can quickly update your makeup bag too….

In addition to my regular base, I’ve really been enjoying Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher Stick as this has a nice creamy consistency perfect for the changes in weather recently. 

To give a little bit of warmth (as there sure isn’t any sun at the moment so feel the need to fake it somewhat) i’ve been loving Delilah Sunset Matte Bronzer in Medium Dark and then adding some Benefit Girl Meets Pearl to the tops of cheek bones which actually has a more pink toned highlight but the pink is very subtle so the glow it radiates is perfect and you can also use this as a primer too to lift the skin if its suffering from dullness.

When it comes to eyes, I love Burberry Eye Colour Cream in Charcoal, super simple to use and this earthy grey toned shade will suit everyone, add one wash for day, or build up the intensity for night and add a slick of Estee Lauder Little Black Liner to the lash line for a more polished look. Chanel makes great eye quads and my pick would have to be Chanel Les 4 Ombres Tisse Vendome as it’s such a versatile palette, also perfect for day to night eye looks and it also has the earthy tonal feel that verges on more neutral but still very on trend for AW.

For Lips I like to opt for an easy to wear neutral: Ciate London Olivia Palermo Satin Kiss lipstick in Praline is the perfect brown toned nude, again making a subtle nod to a more autumnal nude, and then for a more statement lip I am loving Clinique Pop Lipstick in Cola Pop, a darker more brown toned red, which was seen all over the AW15 runways.

HAVE YOU TRIED ROUNDED LINER YET?

Ok, so this may sound a little strange, but trust me, rounding off your liner can actually give a very flattering eyeliner look, it gives make up a modern edge whilst still giving a subtle nod to a slightly sixties makeup vibe. 

There were numerous liner looks from the AW15 catwalks, and they all looked to change up and mash up how we wear eyeliner, including Max Mara and Rochas.

To achieve the look I created in the above photo, choose a thicker, moe pointed eyeliner brush, I used the Laura Mercier Pointed Eye liner Brush and your favourite Black Gel Liner. Sweep the liner all the way from the start of your inner corner and bring the line to outer part of the eye but instead of making your flick sharp and pointed round off the end instead so it has a more cylinder shape and feel to the liner. The look is a bold statement but a fun take on making the runway eyeliner trends more wearable.

FLEUR DE FORCE TEAMS UP WITH EYLURE LONDON

This is a very exciting launch from Fleur De Force and Eyelure London. The two have teamed up to create 4 packs of super wearable and easy to use false lashes. Fleur De Force Lashes By Eylure includes

Simply Fleur, a pair of minimal daytime appropriate lashes that give a really natural look to your eye makeup, Fleur & Fabulous, a fuller lash with a nice graduation in length towards the outer corners giving a nice feline eye shape, Couture Fleur, a nice selection of individual lashes in short, Medium and Long all with a knot free tapered tip finish and the last and I predict will be the most popular are Fleur Loves which sadly I couldn’t get hold of (a sign of how great they are) a beautiful mix of texture and lengths, with a very whispie fluttery feel, but a three quarter length lash making them super easy to apply and comfortable to wear. 

To sum up Eylure is a brand I work regularly with in my pro kit and I think every pack in this range is crafted beautifully, and they have taken into account all the important factors to making great eyelashes…they are lightweight, comfortable to wear, easy to apply (they come with adhesive too) and look like your own amazing lashes! A great colab! I look forward to using these in upcoming tutorials and on my red carpet clients!

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE CONTOURED EYE…

There are certain elements of makeup application that to me will always be timeless. You have the red lip, the classic winged liner but I feel the ‘contoured eye’ as I like to call it sometimes doesn’t get the praise it deserves.

By contouring the eye I mean using creating shadow and depth in the eyes, focusing mainly in the sockets and the lash lines.

I purposely took this photo of a the model from a shot I was on recently in Black and White so you can see the tonal qualities of contouring the eye. Not only does it add shape and dimension to the eyes but it also adds soft shadows that add mystery to the eyes. The great thing about contouring the eye you can use pretty much any colour to do it, plums look equally as amazing as taupes and browns, and Khaki green also gives a really modern feel. It’s a classic makeup technique that can be used to add balance to a look and can re shape the eyes, or cheat the shape of your eyes if you like.

I just felt it was a technique that doesn’t get enough of a mention and yet I use it all the time, in both editorials and on the red carpet. Let me know your thoughts on contouring the eyes…..

AMAZING CONCEALER…NO REALLY!

I picked up Amazing Concealer by Amazing Cosmetics the other day out of sheer curiosity. Let’s face it, the name alone is enough to make any makeup obsessive want to try it…so does it live up to the name?

Yes! It is different in texture from most concealers I tend to go for, in that it’s a lot thicker feeling in texture, more like a heavy cream. For this reason the tiny tube will last you yonks, as the the tiniest amount is all you will need per application. I’m literally talking a tiny dot will do under both eyes. While the texture is thicker, it doesn’t cake under the eyes and it lasts really well too. So you get the coverage but from using very small amounts which is a big plus in my book.

 The other great thing is that it comes in a really vast amount of shades so if you’re on the hunt for a new concealer that gives great coverage then this might just be for you.

JOANNE FROGGATT ON THE RED CARPET

Last week I had the pleasure of making up the super lovely Joanna Froggatt for the Bafta Tribute to Downton Abbey event. Joanne was wearing a gorgeous white gown with embellishment on the back so for the makeup I wanted to create a golden radiant glow to the skin, complete with a bronze and golden smokey eye. 

For Joanne’s skin I used Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk (this is one of my staple red carpet foundations because it has no spf so I don’t have to worry about flash back) and to create her golden smoked out eyes I mixed Charlotte Tilbury Eye To Mesmerise in ‘Bette’ with the Gucci Magnetic Color Shadow Duo in ‘Amaretto’.
