hey.
hey folks i've been meaning to boost Ross Scott's Stop Killing Games initiative but i don't trust myself to write something exhaustively informed about it, has someone already made a good post on the subject that i could reblog?
time-sensitive note: if you're located in Australia you have until May 20th to sign the petition!
to cover as many bases as possible, here's -
50-sec ultra-abridged explanation by Ross Scott:
10-min video summary by another youtuber:
text recap:
this is a consumer rights movement looking to establish legislation regarding companies shutting down paid video games. the general idea is that a game you purchased should have an end-of-life plan to keep it playable in some form after its servers shut down (such as by making server software publicly available).
You can visit StopKillingGames.com for more details and ways you can help.
(there's an FAQ addressing edge cases you might think of!) depending on your location there's a variety of ways you can contribute, such as by signing a petition or contacting a representative. you can also spread awareness by sharing Ross's videos or posts like this one. please consider helping! this is important both for your rights as a consumer and for video game preservation!
