Summary: The reader is hopelessly in love with her partner, but he has eyes on another detective. His obvious feelings distract him on the job and affect his relationship with his partner.
Your thighs stick to the cheap leather of the bar stool as they stick out your incredibly short black dress. Youâve remained seated at the bar for the past hour and the buzzing sound of the earpiece is beginning to give you a headache. Approximately 3 drunk men had approached you and attempted to buy you a drink but you expertly shot them down, even with the distraction of Fin chuckling in your ear.
The undercover mission is to catch a serial rapist who has been bar hopping around the city. His pattern has led the team to this bar where you and Rollins would play as honey traps. Thereâs honestly no reason for you to be so dressed up, considering Rollins is the only one who fits the perpâs MO, a blonde, wasted, handsy girls. She played the role well as she resided on the dance floor surrounded by men, in the tightest dress youâve ever seen. The two of you were playing friends who came to the bar together. All eyes seem to be on her, even the hypnotizing brown eyes you have fell so deep in love with.
Itâs so typical for you to fall in love with your partner who only has platonic feelings towards you. Your past relationships were just as impossible as the one you are currently pursuing. Your long list of exes prove that you have a taste for bad boy, complicated type men and Nick Amaro is no exception.
Nick is known for being argumentative and unpredictable and it drove you crazy. You also could not ignore his good looks. You joined NYPDâs Special Victims Unit a year after Amaro and in the beginning you guys clashed. You rarely threw in your opinion but it seemed that whenever you did he was the first to oppose. The constant competition pushed you two to dive into the case to prove your point and this caused you two to be paired as partners. After spending so much time together, you realized how similar you were and became inseparable, well until his divorce.
When Maria and him separated, he became especially irritable and pushed you farther and farther away. This broke your heart, but you understood that he was going through a hard time. What you didnât understand was the subtle glances you would catch him making at Rollins or his sudden interest in every detail of Amandaâs personal life. You couldnât help but feel jealous as Amanda returned the gestures. With Amaro and you as partners, it was hard for you to ignore the pairâs obvious flirting and even harder to get over the fact that he would never want you.
You and Amaro are Rollinsâ backup for the UC so he resides across the bar sitting at a table alone. You watch each of them closely and canât help but notice Amaroâs eyes linger on Rollinsâ body or the way she makes eye contact with him as she moves her hips provocatively. Jealousy flairs in you and you quickly advert your eyes and turn so you are facing the bar. You wave the bartender over and order a glass of water, only because you couldnât drink on the job. âWhat? No fun tonight?â the bartender asks, giving you a flirty wink.
You try not to gag as you give an innocent laugh, âOh no, Iâm stuck being the mom tonight since my friend canât handle her liquor.â
âThatâs too bad, Iâm sure youâd be fun.â you furrow your eyebrows in suspicion and are about to question his meaning when a voice stops you.
âPerp is approaching you Y/N.â Your ear buzzes as Liv warns you. Heat moves up your cheeks as you realize that neither you or Nick had your eyes on the suspect.
A tap on your shoulder causes you to take a shaky breath and turn slowly to face the man who may have raped and tortured 4 women in the past month. You lean back against the bar slightly, not comfortable with the close proximity. The perp only takes that as a hint to move closer as he leans on the bar behind you and brings his face close to your ear so he could speak to you over the loud music.
âExcuse me, maâam. Iâm sorry to bother you but I couldnât help but notice that you came in with that young lady over there,â he turns and points towards Rollins as she quickly adverts her eyes from watching you to watching one of the many random men who are attempting to dance with her. âI just wanted to offer to help you get her home. I have a friend who tends to get hammered every time we go out and Iâm always stuck dragging him out the bar so I have a lot of experience in drunk babysitting.â he ended his lie with an incredibly creepy smile that made you want to roll your eyes.
You lean into his ear as you smile with false appreciation, âThank you for the offer but my sister is coming to pick us up and Iâve gotten pretty good at drunk babysitting myself over the years.â
He pulls back, an annoyed expression falling upon his face. His lips creep into a smile slowly as he stares you in the eyes, âNo problem really, Iâll be here all night so if you have a problem, you know where to find me!â he says as he quickly turns and disappears into the crowd of people.
Turning around to take a sip of your water, you let out a breath that you didnât even know you were holding. âThat was odd.â Finâs voice echoed in your ear.
âYouâre telling me.â you sighed and downed the small glass of water in front of you. Bringing the glass off of your lips, you faced the crowd and searched for the perp again.
âWhereâd he go?â you whisper. After a minute of radio silence, you look towards Nick across the bar. Your heart skips a beat as he makes eye contact with you. âI donât knowâ he mouths and almost immediately a booming voice fills your head.
âYou were supposed to keep your eyes on him, Amaro.â Liv growls. You roll your eyes, of course he was still watching her.
âHeâs got to still be here.â he responds and gives you a sheepish smile from across the room. Your hands begin to feel numb and you feel slightly light headed, the effect that man has on you is like nothing youâve ever felt before.
âIâll find him.â Rollins exclaims as you both look towards her. She proceeds to drunkenly stumble to the nearest empty table and climb onto it. The crowd cheered as she began to dance and once again hypnotize Amaro.
Your stomach flipped and you felt a burning anger towards Amanda. How dare she ruin that moment between you and Nick. You turn quickly to avoid having to look at the scene which caused your stomach to flip and head to bobble as you became very dizzy. âWoah.â you gasped as you gripped the bar in an attempt to catch your balance.Â
âI know.â Nick whispered in awe as he ogled the flimsy blonde. The bartender seemed to be the only person noticing your compromising state, he reached over the bar and grabbed your arms to steady you. âHey, are you okay?â he places his hands on the sides of your face to make eye contact with you.
âUmmm yeah I just h-have to use the restroom.â you slurred. He let go of you, allowing you to stumble off of the stool and make your way towards the ladies room, which was easy because everyone was on the other side of the bar surrounding the table Rollins was dancing on.
You make it to a small hallway that branches into the separate bathrooms when your head begins to spin and your legs become weak. Reaching a hand out onto the wall, you find your balance. âI think I was drugged.â you tell the others.
Youâre footing was slipping so you leaned your shoulder onto the wall and placed your right hand over your eyes as an attempt to stop the world from spinning. âGuysss, I need help.â
You stay like that for a minute, waiting for a reply but you only receive silence. You grab your ear, expecting to find your earpiece in place, but thereâs nothing there. âShit.â
âFoul language for such a beautiful ladyâ a familiar yet far away voice could be heard but you couldnât muster enough energy to lift your head enough to identify who was speaking to you. âYou look like you could use some help. Donât worry, darling, I have a lot of experience in drunk babysitting.â
A light gasp left your mouth when you realize the stranger is your perp, the violent rapist. âNo. N...no I have to-â you were unable to finish your thought before your body succumbed to the drugs and you went limp.
