Happy Valentine’s Day!
Happy Presidents' Day!
Marc and I were watching Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II (NOT a sequel, as the Wikipedia article is quick to point out), which features Baby Godzilla. I was excited, thinking we'd stumbled onto the origins of Godzuki
But no.
The Godzilla show aired in the late '70s and that movie is from 1993
It's still as good a reason as any to talk about Godzuki
Once, when I was maybe five or six years old, I was sitting in front of the giant speakers of my father's stereo system and listening to the radio. I hung out around that thing a lot when I was a kid, fiddling with the dials and watching changes in bass and trebel register on the analog display. I have no idea what the radio station could have been, but this song came on and the chorus stuck with me for more than twenty-five years even though I never remember hearing it again. I'd think of it sometimes and search online, never returning accurate results. Today I saw the album cover in the preview of Google Music's (it's FREE, ok?) '80s One Hit Wonders station and was back on the floor of my childhood living room, waiting for my mother to turn off the stereo once she heard me listening to a song about "doing it". This isn't how I remember the song sounding, I think it's actually better and (SOMEHOW) less silly than in my memory. I'm just glad I finally found it again

You know, it's terrible. It is. Just awful. Probably one of the worst musicals ever and I say that not only because I can't be bothered to care about stories of sentient machinery learning and growing in human ways. But you know what else? I love this song. I don't believe in guilty pleasures and I'm not ashamed to talk about this incredibly silly song from an incredibly silly musical that I don't believe could have ever existed in any other time than when it did
I tried really hard to think of other fictional gangs with that have members with better names than the Jets, but there just aren't any
Ryan's prompt is basically me any time I've had more than three drinks in one sitting #typing this with both hands and my head propped against a cool wall #cool like temp not like sunglasses #sunglasses is the art missing from our thermostat wall
Because it's better to play it at normal volume on my phone than sing it really loudly by myself and make the neighbors jealous #cool alone guy parties #poison arrow #abc band #not abc network #nor abc alphabet
I kept thinking about this jingle recently and it only occurred to me this morning to look it up
If I Kubrick Stare while driving, it's only because I'm listening to "Firestarter"
I spend way too much time referencing this song and not enough time inviting everyone to watch it
Because my page seems now to just be videos reminding you that things existed, here's what was on my mind when I woke up this morning
I was singing this on the commute home today and Marc didn’t believe that it was a real song. I just couldn’t wait to prove it. He worries me sometimes, guys.
Happy Presidents Day, everyone!
