Benoît Blanc is actually a reverse-Columbo.

Columbo's strategy is to hang out with the murderer and push them into making a mistake or confessing to their crime.

Blanc's is to stay by the innocent suspect and keep them from confessing until he finds the real murderer.

I always saw Columbo as the reverse noir detective:

Chatty, clumsy, always works with a partner, so full of life, and seperates work and private life

Guess detectives are noir -> bright on one axis, and manipulate partner -> protect partner on the other

funniest thing to ever happen was when my boyfriend put on the first episode of columbo (which i'd never seen) but he wouldn't tell me what show it was he would only say "you'll get it when he shows up." but a fun fact about the first episode of columbo is that he doesn't show up for 32 minutes and when he does, he silently walks into the room with a cigar and does a little pose and goes "hi i'm columbo."

The best part about being asexual is knowing that you will never be honeypotted. I often picture myself as a mark in a James Bond movie who has information or something and Daniel Craig saunters up in his sexiest tux to seduce me and I’m just like “No thank you” no matter what he does and then he has an existential crisis and walks away in a daze then sends in Moneypenny cause maybe I just like women and I’m like “hey girl, no thanks” and send her away as well and they just never get the information. I am an immovable plot piece without even knowing it. Sorry James but I defy the tropes of your genre.
