“It was me.” The words eased from tense lips. “I can’t say you’ve needed me to feed you in recent weeks, have you? Or at least you’ve kept your distance. For someone used to eating such balanced meals, what other conclusion is there for me to come to.” He hated this feeling. It was vulnerability and partially why he remained to himself. He couldn’t allow his feelings or even his pain to influence his behavior. His actions affected more than just himself now. “That’s right, you run. How could I forget.” Matthias lifted another glass to his lips, slowly he drank, “Enjoy your game.”Â
Of course it was Matthias. Still was. Hayden hadn’t eaten in - how long had it been? It affected his mood drastically. Even though, part of just seeing Matthias had lifted it for a moment. “I can go quite some time without a meal - it’s a practiced skill.” There was bitterness in his tone, though directed moreso to himself than Matthias. But, still in tune, Hayden could feel the others emotions just beneath the surface. He was hurt, angry, justified. He stopped on his heel and turned back. Matthias words got under his skin. “There is nothing to run from.” Were they about to make a scene at the party? Possibly. “I always do.”
matthxasklexn:
It was childish and immature but Matthias already had his response ready when he heard the familiar voice next to him, “I’m sorry…Do I know you?” He hadn’t seen Hayden since the attacks and that was prior to his ascension to Alpha of the South. It was a difficult transition for them both but something told him the demon’s distance had less to do with the changes in his life and more about what he’d been up to in his spare time. A new scent clung to his skin. It wasn’t the club owner’s and even the hint of the unfamiliar smell made him growl. “I don’t talk to strangers and maybe you should try that game with the creature whose vile smile has latched on to you.”Â
Hayden blinked, looking up at the assortment of alcohol that sat on the shelves behind the bar. He instantly removed himself from Matthias’ side, standing a little taller. He’d thought, he’d hoped that the other wouldn’t regard him in such a way, but what had he expected? Hayden’s brows creased. “I’m pretty sure it’s been you who feeds me a balanced meal.” The counter lacked its usual flair to say the least, and called for a number of come backs. Some of which he probably deserved. The second verbal attack had Hayden placing the drink back down on the table before beginning to turn away. Two could play this game. “Fine…I will.”
Grumpy didn’t even begin to describe Matthias. A masquerade was the first strike on the list for the event. In eighty nine years he’d seen masquerades, especially masquerades on All Hallows’ Evening end in more mischief than even his mind could comprehend. The second strike was the location. Vice. It wasn’t a secret that Matthias didn’t care for the owner, his life style, or the messy strands he referred to as hair. He was two shots into his whiskey and four insults away from the first hundred before he plopped at the bar. He tugged at his mask, shifting it to the side to sip from his recently delivered drink. Sighing loudly he looked around, aware of the presence of the employees and so far the minimal crowd of guests. Another two fingers of liquor down his throat and he ordered another, mumbling to himself, “What are we going to do next, play spin the bottle?”
Hayden loved Halloween, especially the excuse to wreck a little havoc and cause mischief. All in the spirit of the holiday and his nature. The energy in the club tonight was high and he could do nothing but embrace the demonic side of himself - always hungry, always looking for...fun. However, spotting Matthias at the bar caused the incubi’s demeanor to shift. The wolf didn’t like Vice, let alone it’s owner. And after recent events and Matthias’ coming into alpha status, Hayden had kept his distance. Squaring his shoulders and walking toward him, Hayden pressed into his side, snatching up his drink before he could get to it himself. “We could play seven minutes in Heaven.” He said with a laugh as he took a drink.
Shade was heading to Vice to clear his head. As he approached he was almost ran down by some half naked women, not a bad thing expected or unexpected. Unfortunately they were not running to him. Was the place on fire or some shit? He wondered as he saw a figure standing outside the club holding his phone. He quirked a brow at the guys response. “Know that shit just makes you seem all kinds a guilty.”Â
Hayden pocketed his phone before running a quick hand through his hair. “Well - I’ve been known to do worse.” He shrugged one shoulder. As an incubi, he could get into peoples heads - manipulate and twist there desires. This wouldn’t be the first time he’d sent people running. Except this time, he had nothing to do with it and he briefly wondered if Cross was throwing a temper tantrum inside. “You planning on going in or did that display scare you off?”Â

Mordecai had gone to the happy hour a few hours before, finding comfort in people in this stressful time. It was nice to have company, finding companions ranging from fae to wolf during the half off hand made appetizers and strong liquor. The man was on his way home, passing Vice when the people suddenly ran out. The witch blinked, watching the two women wearing next to nothing as well as the man run off in three different ways. Mordecai looked horribly confused, looking at the three people before looking back at the other. “I doubt it was.” The White Witch glanced behind him, looking worriedly at the door.
“You doubt?” Hayden repeated slowly, the witches very presence causing the scar on the back of his neck to tingle. People should know never to trust a demon. Though this time whatever was going on inside, he hadn’t been the cause. If he were, he surely would have owned up to it and wore it proudly. He followed the witches eyes toward the door, shrugging one shoulder. “Don’t look so frightened.” A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I’m positive everyone inside is having the time of their lives.” It was one of his jobs keep people happy and answer to the desires they sought, after all. “Why don’t you come inside? See for yourself. Have a drink.” Hayden pocketed his phone.Â
Walking through the streets at night wasn’t exactly the smartest thing to do, considering the state of the city the past few weeks, but Dante needed to clear his head and just… relax. Work was piling up, the full moon was in a couple of days, and he was getting more and more stressed about what was happening in Linden. He hated that people were dying, especially kids, and it all just made him… rather sad. So he knew he needed a drink. Of course, as he walked the streets, he took a turn around a corner to find a couple of half-naked party-goers running down the street. “Well, it looks like they’re having fun,” Dante chuckled as he walked past the male that spoke, and he stopped, the scent enough to make him take pause. “You need any help?” the wolf asked, noticing the way that the other clutched his phone.
Hayden looked up, as the man - wolf, spoke back to him, raising a brow. “Of course they are.” It was pretty obvious as the sound of squeals and giggles could still be heard running down the street. “Everyone has fun in Vice.” A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth, distracted momentarily from his phone. After everything that had been going on around town, he liked keeping up to date on certain people. “Help? --No. Just on break, about to go back inside.” The other was a wolf, he could tell that much, though he kept himself in check. Matthias was the south’s knew alpha, and the demon supposed that he too needed to play nice. “What brings you to this part of town, hmm?” Vice had been closed and recently reopened after the recent attacks. People needed a place to let loose again  and the inside was booming with sin and debauchery.
Hayden stared down at his phone, out of service as he stood outside of Vice. Though it seemed, even taking a break, interesting things seemed to always happen. Because as he looked up, people came running out past him through the door, in various states of undress. His eyes met another and he looked almost sheepish. “Wasn’t me - I didn’t do it....”Â
How do you know if a demon is lying? His lips are moving.

His reactions were sometimes primal. Be it in the midst of an intimate but deviant act or at the point where he believed his life to be at risk. A mere second passed before his grip weakened and he released Hayden. Guilt immediately filled him. There were games they played but this was anything but one of those games. Blue eyes met gold and in them he saw fear. A fear he never wanted to be responsible for causing Hayden. He stepped back, hand shaking as he gripped the hem of his shirt. He needed something, anything to keep him grounded. On the outside he was fine. Inside - the swirl of thoughts that weren’t his own. The increasing burden weighing heavy on his shoulders and the center of his chest. “I’m fine.” The response was simple, curt, and sterner than he wanted. He softened, shoulders going slack at the sound of Hayden’s rapid questions. Why him? He knew the answer but he couldn’t explain it.Not in a way that would make sense to anyone other than a wolf.It was only at the sound of his incubus’ panic did his eyes leave Hayden’s face and return to the blood stained door. “Its a message Hayden. They were all messages.” He bit his tongue, silencing anything else he could have possibly said about the hunter’s rationale and reasoning for choosing him. He wanted to focus on Hayden for the moment, “Are you okay? Do you need anything?”
Hayden felt Matthias grip around his throat slack and he relaxed slightly. He wasn’t afraid of him, merely that for once the others animalistic tendencies spooked him - everyone on high alert now that someone from each section of the city had been killed. It was becoming second nature for Hayden to think of his wolf first, make sure he was okay. The other stepped back and he followed instinctively, able to see the way his hands shook and the very way Matthias was carrying himself. It would go unnoticed by most, but having known him, been with him - something was more than wrong and it was understandable. The blood of another wolf hung on his door. Like the horns of a young incubus sat at a local bar. “You’re not fine.” Matthias couldn’t lie to him. Not about this. Hayden reached out and ran his hand down his arm before squeezing, a quiet comfort in an attempt to sooth the inner turmoil he could feel. Hayden knew why - but like Matthias, he didn’t want to face it. He liked his brooding loner wolf who kept to himself and avoided pack. Things would change and they both knew it. “No...I’m fine. What can I do? I wanted to...needed to make sure you were okay.” He resisted the urge to touch again.
