These are trilliums my Dad and I picked when I was a kid. We looked for them in the woods in Birch Bay and transported them to our garden. Still blooming and beautiful : )
Creativity - what's that about?
Creativity – what’s that about?
Creativity – what’s that about? What does “creativity” mean to…anybody?
Over the years I’ve always been involved with several projects at once. It’s in my nature to start something, then become stagnant with that idea and start something else. Call it what you will, perhaps ADD, or just being an artist, but I can never sit down and focus on one thing at a time. Unless I get really into a graphic…

"We have found grief to be an ocean. At first stormy, with huge waves crashing over what remained of our lives. As the years pass the big waves come less often. There are always waves. Mostly smaller ones now. But the big ones still roll in from time to time. They still knock us off our feet.
Inspiring words from Miss Aniela.
Happy weekend! Right now I am working on one of the most complex images I've edited to date, shot in a creepy abandoned house (I'm talking the book Psycho laying on the ground kind of creepy) and I'm having fun going further with it and putting some of my new-found skills to the test. I've worked on it for little bits at a time, focusing on one part of the image and then coming back to it later. I typically edit in one fell swoop, but I realized that taking my time really benefits the process of making a more impactful and thoughtful photo. I'm really excited to show off the final image. Thank you Michelle Cameron for modeling, Megan Lacki for costuming/styling, Madeleine Easton for the mirrors, and Avery Lyons for assisting.

CreativeLive Miss Aniela Workshop
Recently I joined the studio audience for a workshop at CreativeLive, learning from one of my biggest inspirations, Miss Aniela. I was so excited to learn from someone who was such an inspiration in modern photography, and I was more than excited to learn about her process and post-production tips.
CreativeLive is a great resource for photographers to hone in on their own creative influences…

Discovery Park
On the third day of the Miss Aniela workshop, Korinne Bisig (another student and very talented photographer, korinnebisig.com) and I went out to take photos at Discovery Park. We walked around a bit and ended up among abandoned, 1800′s colonial homes. There were crazy twisted trees, very old, weathered houses, and it made for a very surreal environment for photographs.
I’ll post some of those…

My "Beginnings" in Photography
My “Beginnings” in Photography
When I first started in photography, I was in the 7th grade. I took my first photography workshop at Western Washington University, and had a very cheap film camera while everyone else had much, much fancier ones. I built my first pinhole camera out of a cardboard box and processed my first photograph in a dark room.
Years later, I have approached photography from many different angles. In my…

During the workshop at Creative Live with Miss Aniela, I learned a lot about the core ideals of fashion photography and the bridge between fashion and fine art photography. It was an interesting experience - and it brought light to the meaning behind my own photos as well.
On the second day, I explored the city with Sabahat Naureen, another student involved with the workshop. We walked around Capitol Hill and landed in Volunteer Park, immediately noticing a large cherry blossom tree planted in the middle of the park. It was beautiful!
We both took shots together, and it was interesting to see what we both came up with. I've never shot with another photographer before (I ended up shooting with even ANOTHER photographer on the third day, which I will post about later), so it was interesting to see how our styles differed, and what color palettes we both appreciated.
I learned a ton from all of my fellow students, and I feel privileged to meet such awesome people in the process of this workshop.
This is a model in the Seattle area, Nicole Zapel, and she was sweet enough to let two photographers pester her for an hour ;)
