I find myself wondering if Matty Healy might have been brought in as a red herring or cover that went awry.  Why do I think this?

I just keep circling back to 1) the fact that the bulk of TTPD, in my estimation, is Taylor processing her feelings about Harry. Not Joey Two-Tracks. Not Matty. Harry. 

In fact, 2) the only song that’s clearly “about” Matty is “The Smallest Man,” a scathing burn of a takedown where she calls him out by his trademark Jehovah’s Witness suit, makes it clear she doesn’t want him, says he’s bad in bed, and has a small dick. 

Tree went to great lengths to make it clear the two of them were not serious back in May 2023–that this was not someone she’d ever write about—so why after something like 10 days would we get this whole album supposedly all about him? Why did we even get this one song at all?

But, more importantly, to me at least, “The Smallest Man” implies that Matty is a sneaky bastard, sliding into inboxes and spying on her while pretending to be her friend. 

What kind of tea has Matty been compiling and spilling? Is it real or fake or both? How, precisely, did this man rust her sparkly summer, and why does he deserve prison? And why won’t he do any time??

And, finally, what makes me really wonder about whether Matty was just a straight beard who played her somehow is 3) a sneaky bit at the end of TTPD’s “In Summation” poem. Here Taylor winks at us after literally yelling about how she was never in love with Matty and then essentially says, “Well, since you all think I loved this asshole despite me telling you I didn’t and you think all I can do is write about assholes, I’ll just let you think this whole 31-track double album is about him. Hope he enjoys the stolen spotlight now.”

I could be nuts. But I don’t know. Something smells rotten in Denmark.

This is giving heavy "Style" vibes specifically if the "never quite buried" because they come back every time.

Two Ghosts Vibes:

The fact she uses stitching seem honestly random to the point I feel like she definitely added it to indicate his stiches/aka "Out Of The Woods".

Obvious, "love of my life" reference:

"You cinephile in black and white"

This whole thing feels like more of a jab at young Harry, he was known as a playboy and he kept playing with her heart. At some point he told her she'd "changed him" because he just wanted her. The talks of paintings, ink bleeding and the "never before, and ever since" all screams at me a mixture of "the rest of the World was black and white but we were in screaming color" and then "Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest gray?" from the male's POV in Coney Island as well as "you've taught me a secret language and you showed me colors you know I can't see with anyone else". Also how Harry's entire feed was B&W for a long time on Instagram before 1989 release.

"Mr. Steal Your Girl, then make her cry"

I mean 1D has a song called "Steal My Girl" as well as the fact I do believe he "stole" her from Calvin and probably Joe at some points.

On this day in Haylor history all our lives were forever changed. 12 years ago today was the first official meeting of Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.

They met at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in 2012. We have video of Taylor dancing to What Makes You Beautiful. Harry later confesses that he fell in love to this song.

Since this day we have been lucky enough to witness the most amazing unspoken dialogue ever.

Someone was saying how toe reveled in the sadness, but then she realized she didn’t want to be sad all the time, but he wouldn’t budge. It becomes like an anchor that’s dragging you down when all you want is for both of you to be albatrosses together. Which is contrast to 2014 Harry how she only flew when all she wanted was him to anchor her down. This is where question…? and maroon on the album makes more sense. Like the collapse of toe was coming and she knew it, which is why reflected on haylor the most. And that’s what Taylor might still think of him as, a bird. You don’t say that person would be the one to interrupt your wedding without truly meaning it. Idk I’m just baffled how much of an impact that haylor had on her.

HS does mention in his songs how he wishes he was a bird so he could fly home to his love. He even has the swallow tattoos.
