Itās true, your honor. Itās all true
And every post I see implying that Velvette cares about consent and isn't a rapist unlike Vox and Valentino, and that she dislikes them for their treatment of people (like being angry over Vox making Alastor watch him have sex) inspires me. To make her worse. It's not hard to. She brews date rape drugs for fun and profit.
like. listen. vox loves val the way you love your forever home. the way you love your reflection in the mirror every day, or the salt shaker you've kept in the same spot for a decade, or the stairs you can take two at a time with your eyes closed. vox loves val with the thoughtlessness of familiarity. by taking him for granted. by trusting him to always be right there, within reach. vox cannot even begin to imagine that one day he might instinctively look for val and not find him. and how could you ever imagine that one day the sun might not rise
I genuinely adore the fact Vox was also a serial killer when he was alive (and such an audacious/creative one too, killing people Final Destination style live on air) because it subverts the āunethical capitalist is squeamish and avoids getting his actual hands dirtyā trope. It was popular VoxAl fanon that Al was the one covered in blood and Vox was his not-totally-willing accomplice who didnāt really get it but followed Alās whims cuz heās gay, and while I thought it was cute, I always questioned how plausible itād be, considering theyāre both Overlords in Hell and so Vox definitely would have killed people with his own two hands before. I never got the impression he was squeamish, so the canon delights me to no end.
That said, my niche take is that his backstory doesnāt invalidate the fact he also cultivated success with his charisma and interpersonal skills, since those traits are how he rises to power in season two. He wasnāt killing the competition or overusing his hypnosis as a crutchāhe was just playing all of the Pentagram like a fiddle with his rizz alone (UNTIL HIS FATAL OBSESSION WITH ALASTOR RUINED IT ALL). Heās a charming cult leader through and through.
To me, āBrighterā emphasised his greed, lack of patience, and obsession with control more than anything. Vincent Whittman could have possibly become the God of Entertainment on his merit alone if he decided to go the long honest route, but he wanted to ācancel every question mark,ā as the song says. It wasnāt a shot in the dark, it wasnāt up to chanceāhe didnāt want to just do his best and wait for the stars to align in order to seize his moment, he wanted it so he took it.
In the entertainment industry, execs are not just going to replace established broadcasters who have a loyal viewership, even if the new upstart is more talented and charismatic than them. The people are used to seeing the same faces until those faces retire. Vincent just made them retire a little earlier than expected!
And I personally think this cutthroat nature compliments the fact heās manipulative and charming: Unless heās led astray while having a manic episode, heās calculated and tactical. He wants to micromanage his life and everyone in itāto the point heās synced with the technological infrastructure of the Pride Ring to help him do thatāand he doesnāt care how underhanded or violent his methods are as long as they ensure his victory. (Plus, itās not like cults and cult leaders donāt lean into violence IRL either ahaha.)
A guilty bystander
So how do we feel now that radiosilence is canonā¦
If I had a nickel for every time Keith David in cat form was surprise picked up and yeeted at a female antagonistā¦
Oh goddamnit they made him adorable
VIVIENNE I'M IN YOUR WALLS
WHAT DO YOU MEAN HIS CRUSH
one-sided radiostatic is canonnnn
Heās????? Heās so cute??? How did they make him so cute?!?!?!?
āThe worst thing she can say is āNoā.ā
Alastor:
The fact that Vox had a crush on Alastor that turned into a grudge that lasted for SEVENTY YEARS then got a brain lag when Alastor admitted he respected him then blushed when Val suggested they should fuck, but other than the noncon voyeurism he still didn't touch Alastor against his will in any way is making me crash out. And we got canon confirmation that he gets off on other people's pain. He's so in love oh my god
I'm still not over this. this shit is so funny to me because it isn't even like a public humiliation like the previous ones (the parade and news broadcast) like there's no visible cameras or drones or even any sort of visible crowd. he just did this shit for himself, he wanted that cute little smoothie date he never got even though now it's in an incredible fucked up way with a restrained, done and uninterested alastor. but he can pretend it's a cute little date like the delusional shit he is
YOU THINK IM GOING TO BELIEVE THE PROPAGANDA KING??
cult leader btw
