do you guys ever think about Three seeing ART and the humans preparing to rescue Murderbot, seeing how desperate they are, and how different their behaviour is to its experiences of the way humans are "supposed" to treat secunits.
do you ever think about how it's an echo of murderbot seeing miki's interactions with don abene and the others from goodnightlander?
do you ever think about how seethingly jealous murderbot was in that moment, even if it didn't recognize its feelings as jealousy?
“She didn't respond for 3.2 seconds and I had that long to wonder if she didn't want to talk to me. That would make this rescue 100 percent more awkward.
Then she said, Prove you're you. Tell me your name.
Okay, not that awkward. That was a relief. It also told me how bad her situation was, if she was worried about someone trying to trick her by posturing in her feed. I said, It's Murderbot, Dr. Mensah.
That conversation had been permanently deleted, so no one knew about it except the PreservationAux team. Assuming they hadn't told anyone else about it. Mensah obviously assumed it.”
kinda wish someone would write a reaction fic of Dr. Mensah reading the in-universe letter murderbot sent her before it fucked off that is literally just 80% of the actual book. I feel like she probably had a lot of feelings while reading all of that.
imagine hyping yourself up to read a goodbye letter from a sapient construct you trauma bonded with and the intro is essentially "After I hacked my governor unit I could have become a mass murderer, but instead I spent about four years just checking out various forms of media. As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure."
#the fact that the whole of all systems red is an in-canon letter written by the narrator #but we only find this out right at the end of the letter #is MASTERFUL #because at least for me it really recontextualised the way i saw murderbot #usually the narrator of first-person perspective narrative is not meant to actually be that articulate in canon #it's understood to be a slightly elevated/non-diegetic thing #where we're getting their experiences but as filtered through the irl author's much higher writing skill #but not murderbot #murderbot is canonically excellent at writing in a really compelling way #and later books reinforce this #with one character suggesting murderbot help write a documentary about its experiences citing the letter #and of course the entire end of system collapse is like a firing of that Chekhov's gun #(which i only realised was a chekhov's gun in retrospect)

Murderbot constantly complaining about being a 'pet bot' is funny because its major desires are to sit and lounge around ART/the Argument or the couch in Mensah's office doing nothing (watching media), or perching on the corner of Mensah's desk and hovering in corners watching its humans. It doesn't want to be touched but also like yeah ok you can touch it if you're special. It wants to walk in, do it's thing, and leave.
Also like ART is *so* excited to have this feral construct show up on its door step. ART brings MB inside, bathes it, gives it medical treatment and a safe cozy space, and then tags it (with the comm receiver stored under MBs ribs) and sets it free to do its thing, hoping it will come back some day. It's like Tag-(neuter)-Release for stray cats. ART likes to dress it up and squeeze it and talk about it and show off pictures of MB to its humans...
Murderbot doesn't want to be a pet, but it's already a cat.
REELING from the new murderbot short story. Instead of poor helpless Secunit (with big shoujo anime eyes) getting wallpinned by the big mean transport it was your respectable smart straight-A transport daughter getting hopelessly smitten with a gun-toting, intelligence-drone-using, leather deflection-jacket-wearing Bad Boy rogue Secunit. called Murderbot
Was going to make a post about how murderbot makes friends with other bot systems so easily, and how frequently it describes their personalities as “the friendly secsystem” or somesuch and personifies these entities that the humans just see as tools. Then I started thinking about the separatists’ system in System Collapse and how Murderbot remarks that it might be friendly, or it might just be that it hasn’t explicitly been programmed to be unfriendly. And then I started thinking about ART, and how Murderbot calling it an asshole is basically a term of endearment. And now I’m thinking about how subservience can look like friendliness, and how being able to choose when and to whom to be kind is a cornerstone of murderbot’s personhood. Being a hater as a form of self-actualization.

In early 2021, as talk of a Murderbot Diaries adaptation was underway, fans of the series started asking each other questions like, "What would we want to see from an adaptation of our favorite book series?" and "Wouldn't it be cool if this or that scene was animated?" and "Hey, don't YOU know some things about animation?" and "What if a bunch of fans got together to make a Murderbot fan animation?"
Two years of teamwork later, the Murderbot Diaries Fanimation Project presents our labor of love: a fully realized animation adapting scenes from the first four novellas into a trailer, dedicated to showcasing everything we love about the story of our favorite rogue SecUnit.

While organizing files, I found a comic I drew of a scene I personally liked before starting Tumblr. I'm posting it along with some recent doodles. It's pretty random though…
