Hello!
I keep seeing people give you asks then get replies and it's just now hitting me that I can ask and there is a chance you might answer. Context:
I'm 67k words into my first book.
I am a college student. I live off scholarships and spite.
I don't know anything about everything, even if a lot of everything is nothing.
I write to ask if have any advice for publishing. I think about saving up to self publish, but I'm not sure. I do want people to read my story. Just a few. I also worry about forking over my story (my favorite and least favorite child) to a publisher. What if they mutilate it!? I ask myself if I value money or time more, and the answer is always my story. Thoughts?
Thank you for reading my dilemma.
P.S. Me and my brother used to watch Coraline so much it is etched into the sulcus of my prefrontal cortex. You're awesome!
I guess my advice is finish it. Then show it to friends. Then decide how you want to get your story out into the world. There are ways to digitally self publish now, and the traditional ways of publishing still exist. Just don't be fooled into paying people to get your book out there.
I wasn't expecting an answer but I got one, woooo!! (Don't be fooled by the lowercase. I am manically excited.)
"Just don't be fooled into paying people to get your book out there."
Thank you very much, Neil. :)
