A sea chest contains the clothing, equipment, and other personal effects typically required by the 19th-century sailor during long months at sea. But the ideal case can be seen here, because hardly any sailor owned so much. And what should also be noted here is that some things (the octant, the gameboard, books, for example) were included here that were owned by officers.
