thinkin of revamping the blog a bit and rebranding hiro to her d&d counterpart kaguya because I feel I have a better grasp of her character than hiro at this point. really she’s mostly the same, just 1. more stabby, less magic 2. but also more magic in a “my great-great-great grandma was angelic or some shit” kinda way (she’s an aasimar) and 3. fucking BUFF AS HELL
Commissions are back open! I have graduated college and… alas, I have no job for the time being, so I need to get money somehow.
Commissions will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis; I will inform you where you are in the queue upon making a request and when progress on your commission has been started. Updates will be provided throughout (rough sketches/thumbnails, then as applicable, linework/first drafts, base colors, and final drafts), and final artwork files will be shared as PNGs and (in the case of character sheets and references) PDF or PSD files, as well as posted on tumblr/artstation. Payment will be 50/50: half up-front to confirm the commission, half after receiving a thumbnail of the finished product. Feel free to ask to see the full versions of any of the examples provided here, or additional examples I may have. IF REQUESTING ON TUMBLR, PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA IM ON MY ART BLOG @cherabby-arts; this is so I can keep track of things more easily.
Assume that references, character sheets, etc. will be done A4 @ 300 dpi for the sake of printing. More examples (and some of the full-size versions of the examples shown here) are available on my artstation.

d&d hiro has only had two sessions so far and already:
- adopted the cleric, who is babey - traumatized said cleric because she attempted to mercy kill a dude and the damage rolls i was putting out were Not doing it - become team mom - told the monk to his face “do it. punch me. pussy.”
hiroko has officially taken over as my main d&d character! (actually, her name is kaguya, because i’m a sucker for a good mythology reference. she’s an aasimar fighter/paladin.) she’s fundamentally the same in backstory, just add 6 years of being without her baby bro or friends. :^)

“ ALL RIGHT, ” Kubo tugs on the strap of his shamisen readily, and nods. “ I’ll speak to our priest as soon as possible in the meantime. You get some rest, okay? Hopefully I can figure out what I can do before you leave. ” If it was a demon plaguing his grandfather, then that meant he may have to leave again. As much as it pained him to do so, Kubo was willing to, and he knows he will need KATSU’S help.
“I should hope it won’t take that long, at least,” he chuckles. “Otherwise I would say your priest isn’t great at his job.”
The worst-case scenario was that he would have to send a letter back and let Hiroko know he’d be a few more days; after coming this far with Kubo, it was hard not to want to see this through to the end.
“You make sure you try to get some rest, too,” he adds, and giving Kubo a smirk, “All that worrying is going to stunt your growth, and then you’ll wind up being a shortstack forever.”

“ heroes are a waste of time and breath. ”
“ you’re no hero. ”

“ why do you keep calling me that? a hero? i don’t even know what that means. ”
“ either you live lo— no wait, that makes no sense. ”

“ is this a part of your plan !?”
“ your plan makes no sense !”

“ it’s my turn now. my turn to be the hero. ”
“ you can’t — no ! wait ! you can’t do that ! ”
“ are you crazy !? you could’ve died out there, you could ha — (name) …? ”

“ (name) can you hear me !? please — please! ”

KUBO SQUINTS AT HIM THOUGHTFULLY, almost passing a judging look as if he couldn’t believe what KATSU was suggesting. But very very quickly, the idea made perfect sense in his head. “ OH, it’s very possible … ” Demons did not sound like they’d be interested in plaguing an elder not to wake, but half of his family were CELESTIAL beings. His grandfather especially, in another life, was the moon itself.
“ I’ll consult our priest in that case. What are you going to do? ”
“I was planning on staying around here for another day or two. Just to get some rest,” he shrugs. Traveling for two weeks without much of a break in between grew taxing; He knew he still had places to be, of course--getting back to his friend was the most pressing thing on his mind, but both he and his horse needed the rest.
“I can’t stay much longer than that. I still need to get back to Hiroko.” There was a lot to discuss yet.

SINCE THEY WERE BOTH IN PUBLIC, Kubo made an effort not to make his distress visible. Even if he was deep down a very young and emotional child, it’d be wrong and unnecessary to draw attention to himself. So he put up a front, offering small waves and smiles to familiar faces that passed him by, and makes his way to KATSUROU.
Once they are together again and their conversation could be kept between them, Kubo’s fake smile finally falls. A grim frown replaces it as the severity of his situation finally begins to sink in. “ … Not any better. He hasn’t woken up. ” He admits, stifling a wince. “ KAMEYO is going to be looking after him. So is the village doctor. We got the medicine we need in case anything else or anyone else gets sick … but I don’t know what’s wrong with him. ”
Oh. The change in expression tells him everything he needs to know. He’s seen that look one too many times in the past year, worn by children and adults alike. Silence hangs in the air between them for a moment while Katsurou struggles over what to say, wondering if he can’t console the boy, only to settle on, “I’m sorry.”
At least they had what they needed now--there was some good in that--but it did raise the question as to what exactly was ailing his grandfather if the medicine the doctor needed hadn’t done a thing.
“...Not to jump to conclusions, but... do you think it may be possible that whatever is affecting him isn’t entirely... natural?” Monsters came in all forms, after all, and if his grandfather wasn’t recovering through any normal means. "If there are any priests or monks around, it may not be a bad idea to have one of them see if it isn’t the fault of some yo-kai or spirit."
It only seems right to wait for the kid to confirm everything is fine before he heads back the way they came--he’s spent this long making sure Kubo got what he needed for his grandfather, after all. An extra day or so wouldn’t make much of a difference at this point.
...Plus, he was getting exhausted from dragging himself back and forth. At least the weather seemed to be in his favor this time, warming up enough that he could reasonably sit outside without freezing. So he burns a few coins at a local shop, buys himself some food, and finds himself somewhere to relax (that isn’t too damp from melting snow).
When Kubo turns up later (how long has it been? It sure didn’t feel like long, but maybe Katsurou had dozed off at some point), Katsu waves him over. “How’s your grandfather doing?” / @origcmibird

“ I … didn’t think there’d be another way in? ” KATSU must have found another entrance. Kubo may have been rash in his efforts to find a way inside the ruins they’d found but his intentions were good. Now he feels both embarrassed and stupid.
Well, at least Kubo would have learned his lesson here. No need to pretend to be his parent and tell him off. “Alright, let’s try and get you out of there. Can you move around at all, or are you totally stuck?”
Someone help him, he’s got himself stuck.
He’ll help, of course, but first... “How on Earth did you manage this?”
I have a lot of emotions about my d&d versions of hiro and katsu bc they have canonically both been on their own without finding each other for five years..... my sweet children.........
