AVERY sat in the studio and placed his hands on the arms of the chair he rested in. listening to his brother go on and on caused him to hold up his hand and stop him, “nigga shut up, ain’t nobody singing about bryleigh. it’s just a damn song, regardless of what your non-singing ass thinks, it’s just a song. “ rising from the chair to head back into the booth, he huffed in vexation and picked up the headphones. pulling them over his ears, AVERY began to zone out as the music started.
“ you've been trying to take all my energy, but I'm just tryna do me took your time to make sure I lose. but you could never break me..” as he held out the last one, a run meeting the lyric as well, he went back to what was his first steady relationship. as a young man in the industry it’s hard enough to find people who want to be with you for you, but it’s even harder to get a taste of your own medicine. he attempted to stay focused, but to say she wasn’t the source of inspiration for the song was a lie. clearing his throat as he headed into the pre-chorus, he moistened his pair and began to sing.
“no I ain't, I ain't, no I'm not the same. no, no, yeah, eeh. i swear that I've changed. can't wait till the day, hey. when i break away, when i break away. so take your aim and shoot. cause i’m bulletproof. give me everything that you got. do your best to take your best shot. aim, shoot. ‘cause I'm gon' pull through. do the worse you can do.” his mind began to wander back to when she called things quits, luckily for him it was a private relationship and no one other than their friends truly knew of the depths of them. but when things were over, those were the people he had to answer to. his mother, his sister, his brother— none of which understood how he had been the one to get broken up with. it wasn’t like AVERY, to put his eggs into one basket or love someone more than he loved himself or his craft. so when bryleigh announced she had to think about herself and her career, rather than their relationship it stung.
removing himself from his thoughts, he continued the next verse, everything he had to say to her was in the music. “ i can't lie, no. i still feel sure. when i'm in my, in my element. you don't know just who you're messing with. you can try but you can't control. what's for me, it's what i'll end up with. so do your best but you can never give..” going back through the pre-chorus, once AVERY went into the last verse, he had more of a base behind his already raspy voice. and a weight was lifted from his shoulders, he had done his form of therapy. “ every day, every night, since then. i've been waiting on a battle field. waiting on a moment to take on you. got my truths we're hand in hand. if we fall we'll get up again, got a mission that i'm gonna do. so take your aim and shoot.” removing the headphones from his ears, he stepped out of the booth and reclaimed his previous seat. glancing over at his brother and bursting out into laughter with him, he shook his head. “playa’s get they heartbroken too, nigga.”
“see we barely out the parking lot and you already putting your hands on me, i can see this isn’t gonna go very well. just know where i’m taking you i can leave you and it’ll just be the city girl.” making a joking reference to her group-mate, AVERY gave her outfit another quick glance. “i’m just saying, you look beautiful. if you can’t take a compliment from me then you can let me know and i’ll turn the care back around. and don’t be asking me all these questions, i asked you on a date, so i am in control. just enjoy the ride, mayweather.” grinning as he teased her about her earlier actions, AVERY relaxed in his seat, using his left hand to control the automobile. “how was your day? you do anything eventful?” with a brow raise, he eased on the gas as he pulled to a stoplight.
glancing down at the roses still in his possession he shook his head, “nah, they’re for me. don’t they bring out the colors in my outfit?” he teased while escorting her to the vehicle. unhooking his arm from hers to assist her into the still running car, once she had placed both feet in he set the flowers on her lap and closed the door. jogging around to the driver’s side of the car, AVERY slid inside and pulled his seat-belt over his chest. he gave her a few moments to get settled and drove towards their date for the night. “you do look beautiful though, no gas. you making me a lil’ nervous, and i’m too grown for that shit.” he declared. "two things, hope you aren't afraid of water, or allergic to seafood."
resting his arm on the arm rest to the right of him, his hand fell to his beard beginning to play with the hairs his chin. his eyes fell down to the gps system that told him destination was on the right. turning the wheel swiftly to pull up in front of ASHANTI’S home. putting the vehicle in park, AVERY removed his seat-belt and hopped out. leaning against his blacked out vehicle with a bouquet of roses in his hand, once she stepped from out of her home a smile came over his lips. “you ain’t have to come out looking that damn good. sheesh, you ready to go?” / @ashntis
