L lives on the attic of the orphanage, and needs no disguise to come out - everyone knows him as “That weird, slouching, dirty man who sometimes comes by and who for some reason is very beloved by Watari,” and most of the children pay him no mind. L himself helps in spreading rumours that L the Detective lives in London, or loves to drink whiskey, or is a very short man - of course, there are a few children who suspect something.
There is a grand old-school bell there which rings every morning at 9:30, when the classes start, and every evening at 20:30, when the youngest children are supposed to go to sleep.
Children under 7 years old must go to sleep at 20:30, the ones up to 13 years old go to sleep at 21:00 and anyone older than 13 goes to sleep at 22:00. Barely anyone older than 10 follows the rule. The bell also rings on the 1st of May, even after Wammy’s death, and on the children’s birthdays
Instead of the children’s real birthdays, everyone’s birthday is celebrated on the dates of them arriving into the orphanage. For example, if a child’s real birthday is 2th July, but he came into the orphanage on 6th January, his new birthday will be on 6th January.
Whenever Wammy is present(Which is more often than not), he reads a bedtime story to the children in the living room at 20:00. Most of the children go to listen - if not for the story, then for the fact that warm milk, hot chocolate and biscuits are offered as a snack.
Occassionally, Roger gives piano and violin lessons. His lessons are regarded as one of the hardest in the orphanage.
There are rumours that the orphanage is haunted, partly encouraged by Wammy and Roger to prevent children from wandering in the halls after bedtime. One of the most well known ghosts is supposed to be a tall man who guides anyone to kitchen before disappearing.
Wammy often bakes various biscuits and cakes, and no matter when he does it, there are at least three children waiting for it to be done at any given moment.
Wammy has banned energy drinks in the orphanage, which naturally means that there are at least dozen hidden places that hold cans of Monster.
There is only one TV in the orphanage, and it is mainly used by the younger children to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings.
It has become a constant joke amongst the children to loudly point out whenever they see someone named Roger who is not Roger Ruvie.
Music class during which they were learning about The Sound Of Music composed by Richard Rogers was especially amusing.
