when he first heard that his friend was interested in fossil pokémon, he wasn’t entirely sure what he was thinking when he suggested they could possibly go look for on in the depths of one of geumjeong’s mountains. he has never found much success himself ( given that he only tried for around twenty minutes before giving up ) so he doesn’t imagine they will really find anything worth while while they’re down here.

despite that, his friend actually agreed to the idea, as absurd as he found it.

he was covered in layers, navigating through the caves with his kirlia using flash to illuminate their path. he sprayed some super repel on them before entering ( and did so a couple more times along the way ) just in case, as they weren’t really here for battles. truthfully, he didn’t know where he was headed and they were bound to get lost eventually. he looks over at soohan, curiosity in his eyes as they continued walking.

“do you know which fossil you’re looking for? or are you just looking for any kind?”

it wasn’t often when soohan was able to leave the halls of the laboratory. and usually when that happens soohan was either shopping for groceries or spending what time he wasn’t sleeping with his pokemon.  so when tatsuya had brought this idea of going to the geumjeong’s mountains soohan was more than excited to go there and look in a more on hands approach to looking at fossil pokemon.

plus - his mother was saying he needed more adventurous - he was looking more and more transparent - at least that’s what his mother had said. so while he had grimace at the idea of going to the mountains without a larger crew but alas it was now or never.

so when his friend had questioned him on whatever if he knew what fossils he was looking for - the researcher let out an uncomfortable laugh - he never felt comfortable when it came to the caves. especially with his rapidash back at home.

“ oh - well any of the fossils could work - any fossils can help with our research, and for my own experience as well. “ he adds, before taking in the illuminated path before them.

that day it rains.

haejin sits on the rug where the blue from outside merges with the warm glow of the apartment, cool white slipping into gold. short legs stretch out in front of him, slices of his tanned thigh peeking through the rips in his jeans. he’d meant to wear his nicest ones, dark with no sign of wear, only clean lines running along the sides, but an unfortunate and rushed encounter with yogurt had left them splattered and impressionable in all the wrong ways.

“it’s really hard to have pancham around because he doesn’t want to be in a pokeball, and i don’t want to force him, so i always have to find someone to watch him…”

and his voice trails off, like steps losing their direction, because his stomach growls and he remembers how much he’s eaten, how much he’s yet to eat – how much he wants to eat.

“sorry about all the food,” he says, lays back to rest his head against the floor, listening to pancham and gwen in the corner, “we’re growing boys.”

soohan wonders if it’s some type of omen - that it’s raining the first time he and haejin were finally able to settle on a date. if the rain was foreboding of something about this blooming relationship. but perhaps that’s just his pensive thoughts taking over - and that he should ignore any of these negative thoughts - after all, it wasn’t serious. haejin was fun and soohan liked just having fun.

so he does his best to shove down those feelings and instead focuses ensuring that haejin and his pokemon were fed.

he didn’t expect for the two to have the appetite of a snorlax during the lazy summer afternoons. and  instead listens to the trainer as he waits for the rice cooker to beep once more - signaling the second batch he made tonight. luckily they had just finished the rice,  there’s plenty of the side dishes and the main course.   “ i don’t mind pancham being out and about - he’s such a cute thing, i think i’m going to try to make him a nice jacket, since it’s been so cold lately.” he muses - eyeing the small pokemon as if to figure out if he had enough fabric lying around to fix him something.

“ well, you’re in luck haejin-ssi.” soohan says, placing two bowls of rice on the table, and signaling for the two to join him at the table once more. “ we still have a ton of food, and since the rice is done you growing boys can eat some more.” though he’s pretty sure pancham is the only one who was doing anything growing. “ did you two not eat today ? were you too busy training ?”

the sense of adrenaline that usually pumped through soohan’s veins has subsided as the contest came to a close. the upbeat persona that soohan had held throughout the competition soon subsiding as it came to an end. though it wasn’t to say that the researcher wasn’t happy - in fact he had currently ranked about fifth in the competition the highest he’s been this season - so it wasn’t like he wasn’t happy as the curtains closed for this current competition. it was more so that he found his energy drain  - reverting back to his off stage personality. when soohan had first started doing these competition he didn’t realize that he was going to be also performing along side his pokemon - but of course as he entered more competitions he realized  that just like battling contests made it so that in order to do well you would need to work well with your pokemon.

but regardless - he was ready to go backstage and to relax a bit before going back to the research lab. heeding deerling to follow him -  soohan found himself settled backstage taking a sip from his water bottle before he spotted one of the contest judges - hong jaeyong. and the man finds himself bowing at the judge in greeting.

“ ah hello, did you have a good time today ?”

son of two pokemon professors - soohan was always ready to learn about the history of pokemon

he doesn’t really enjoy battling - often citing his fearfulness of being the reason one of his pokemon were hurt.

instead, he enjoys going to archeological digs and researching various historical texts to learn more about pokemon.

though he isn’t in the league - he does enjoy contending in the busan pokemon contest - and  it’s more a hobby rather than a way of life.

he’s a bit prickly and standoffish when you first meet him - and it takes awhile for soohan to warm up to you but he cares deeply about those around him.

he has an interest in fossil pokemon in particular though he doesn’t have the privilege to have seen one in person.

he does battle from time to time - but he’s terribly bad at it and his rapidash is the only pokemon he’s confident in battling with.
