“Officially, it’s Byeol when she was just a Feebas, but Ahreum had been taking care of me ever since I was born.” Ahri turns to look at Byeol beside her, nodding her head in agreement. “Ahreum was given to me by my grandparents when they saw just how attached we were, but Byeol was the first ever pokemon that I had trained and battled with and who I called my own.”

Ahri hummed in thought, deeply thinking about the question before carefully aswering. “I currently do not raise a multiple of the same pokemon, however, my grandparents are breeders themselves and I see plenty of the same baby pokemon back at home.” She strokes the ears of Hwan who is currently in slumber on her lap, fondly remembering the time of when he was just a baby Eevee. “Hwan was one of the many Eevee’s my grandparents bred, but he was the only that just couldn’t stay a centimeter away from me. I wouldn’t mind trying to breed another Eevee in the future.”

“Oh goodness, the list would never end!” Ahri giggled at just the mere thought of how many pokemon never failed to make her happy. “I can’t help but be biased but all of my companions are the ones I cherish the most.” The female hears a cry and Boo flew around his owner in circles, an act of wanting attention and obviously wanting to be picked as her favorite. “Well, it looks like if I don’t say that I cherish Boo the most, he will be pouty all day.”

“Definitely Yun when she was still just a baby Fomantis.” Ahri softly states after thinking for a short while. She turns to fondly look at Yun beside her, the corners of her lips tugging into a bright smile. “Yun was the only wild pokemon that I that I battled to bring into my team when I was fourteen years old. I don’t know what made me want to capture her at that time but I finally knew when she won her first ribbon.”

♔ oh my goodness, i’m so sorry for being mia. i had to leave for london on the 22nd and it took me quite some time to recover from the jetlag. even though i’ll be on vacation, i should still be able to plot and write at night, whenever i’m not out and about so i’ll be doing any starters and replies i owe later tonight. and please send lots of memes over and i will send you all memes back whenever i can! i swear i’ll get to conjuring up plots for the event hopefully soon. thank you guys for putting up with me ;;

jaeyong returns the bow, taking a moment to recognize her familiar name and face. “oh, but i’ve seen you before. its an honor to be working with you,” he smiles, stepping closer and offering her a handshake. “my name is jaeyong—i’m pretty new myself.”

Ahri internally sighs in relief at the male’s words. It seems that he wasn’t at all bothered with Boo’s playful antics and she sends the Froslass trailing behind the other a friendly smile.

“She seems wonderful,” the female can sense the pokemon’s aura, a perfect candidate for contests, before she turns to her own Togetic who seems extremely ecstatic that his owner is finally not wallowing in her own thoughts and despair. “Boo, is well, Boo. He’s forever a baby–my baby.” Boo visibly stops twirling in the air and pouts for a few seconds before proceeding to fly in circles around the Froslass in an attempt to befriend the other pokemon. 

The surprise on Ahri’s face is evident, eyes widening and nearly flushing in embarrassment at his next words. It has always been a shock to the female whenever people continued to recognize her even after changing careers, and a bit of an embarrassment that her previous title is still being tied to her name when deep down she feels as if she does not deserve to bear the weight of her fame and ribbons after the incident. “Oh no, please, it should be my pleasure to be working with you.”

Ahri laces her hand into his, accepting the handshake. “I’m afraid that my mother had only given minimal information on my fellow judges, but are you Hong Jaeyong, the former elite trainer from Cheonan that everyone has been talking about lately? I’m very honored to meet you.”

It was during the ungodly hours of the night - or morning, whichever way you looked at it, it was the time when everyone should be asleep (almost everyone) - where time felt like it stopped as the calm waves of Haeundae beach kissed the shores, while life continued to tick away; seconds, into minutes, into hours. It was also the time where Ahri found herself wide awake, the toes of her bare feet winding through the sand, until finding the perfect spot to sit and stare out into the horizon. Amidst the vast waterfront, it was just her and her companions enjoying the freedom outside of their pokeballs. Byeol and Ahreum dancing on the water, Kkum guiding baby Kimbap and Boo on building a sandcastle, Hwan curled up on her lap in dreamland, and even Yun, who is not so particularly fond of the sand, was very interested in the uniquely shaped seashells. 

Many things raced through her head and she found herself lost in her thoughts. Life was too fast, quickly catching up to Ahri who was so used to running away from Fear and Guilt. Passion, whom she buried deep down to make room for Responsibility, had suddenly rose at the opportunity. Then, Desire followed as Passion continued to climb and climb until Ahri decided that it was finally time to stop running away. 

The change was instant. 

“Song Ahri stepping foot into the contest hall after six years, not as a contestant but as a judge!” “From coordinator champion to pursuing medical research, what is her story?”

Kimbap crawled his way back into his owner’s arms and Boo squished himself between Kimbap and Hwan who continued to drift back into his dreams. Ahri visibly sighed and cuddled her pokemon, whispering words of the emotions she had been hiding from the world, the secrets her past entailed, and her worries of the future.

Whispered words meant only for the ears of her companions, the tranquil body of water, and the forgiving rays of light from the moon above unknowingly reached another pair of human ears. It was only after Ahri had spilled everything, where Boo flew out of her arms and circled around his owner in warning, gesturing towards the direction of the stranger’s presence. Ahri stiffened and called out to a person who potentially could have just found out about everything.

“Who’s there?”

Still not taking Hoopa too seriously, the Announcer glanced back down at his phone- the moment he looked down he felt a Pokemon of some sort bump into him. One wayyy too small to be Hoopa. He saw her before he heard her- and his heart felt like it stopped. KItae would recognize her anywhere- it was the Ahri. He blinked dumbly at her- for once in his life, the loud mouth attention seeker was left speechless. He hung onto every word of hers, until his name fell out her mouth- and he swore it was now her name now. She owned Ryang Kitae, he would just have to change his name now and he would be fine with it. He cleared his throat, nervously raising his hand “Yup- that. Would be me.”

As soon as the male opened his mouth, the corners of Ahri’s lips tugged into a wide grin and curtly bowed at the person she was supposed to finally meet. “Oh, thank goodness I found you so easily! My name is Song Ahri, it’s nice to meet you.”

Boo made a noise of excitement and proceeded to fly in circles around the new stranger, approving of the male’s existence and his meeting with the pokemon’s owner. Baby Kimbap in her arms also acknowledged the male in front of him with a cute snorunt and proceeded to nibble on his poffin. 

“My mother told me that you’re the best person to show me the ropes around here.” Naive Ahri did not notice the sparkles in the male’s eyes at seeing his idol right in front of him; the female never thinking so highly of herself. It has been six years since she had stepped foot into the contest hall and she had already forgotten of her influential presence - the former champion does not realize that people still looked up to her, one of them in front of her very eyes. 

“It’s been a while since I’ve been here so thank you for helping me out.” Yes, Ahri’s nervous, visibly cuddling Kimbap closer to her chest, the baby not minding and continuing to feed on the nearly-finished poffin. But, she’s here now and there’s no more running away.

salamence was also flying above, their training session cut short to find their mischievous little friend. from the skies, the male could see his two pokémon meet at the same place, stopping abruptly at the loss of the scent. he and his salamence come down, getting his houndoom and his salamence in their pokéballs after a quick thanks, confusion on his face as his younger pokémon was nowhere to be seen. “teddy!” he calls, zoroark following with its own shortly after. “teddiursa! now’s not the time for games!”

where could he have gone?

When Ahri arrived in front of the door to her apartment, she did not expect to see a visitor in the form of the cutest little thing ever. 

The baby Teddiursa was the smallest, cutest little thing (thank god Boo can’t read my mind or else he would be extremely sulky for the entire day) and it was obvious that the pokemon had lost its owner because the tear-stricken face was clear evidence that the baby had been crying.

Crouching down on the floor to make herself more approachable, Ahri attempted to console the crying pokemon by introducing herself first. “Hey, little one. Why don’t you stay with me and my pokemon and we’ll help you find your owner?” 

Boo flew to the floor, carefully approaching the baby pokemon to try to gain their trust. Ahri’s own baby Kimbap jumped out of her arms in order to help and because of these two, the baby Teddiursa finally cracked a smile and clutched onto the female’s leg in attempt to climb her legs, wanting to be carried. Ahri cooed at the adorable sight and picked up the pokemon into her arms with Kimbap trying to squeeze between his owner and his new friend. 

“Alright, let’s go!”

♔ hey guys, yesterday’s news took quite a toll on me so to everyone i owe starters and replies too, sorry about not working on any of them yesterday. i will be spending the day with loved ones so i will try to get to all, if not most of them, tonight. hope all of you are doing well and always remember that you are loved and worth it!

finally, he reached her spot once again after that minor event, placing down the beverage on her table with a grin “here you go! a large mocha latte to make your day better.”

“Well things could be better, but that’s what you’re here for! And your mocha latte’s, of course.” Ahri grinned with satisfaction at the barista’s attention to detail. It’s the little things like remembering her order that describes a caring person such as himself. “And I figured that Boo missed playing with Po and Moana and definitely wanted to show off his new wings.” 

The female jokingly shooed the barista away so that he can brew her drink to perfection. She felt like her worries were melting away as she watched the three baby pokemon (yes, Boo will forever be a baby pokemon to her) having the time of their lives without a care of the world. Staring out into the window right beside her booth, Ahri reminisced her younger days. Time passed by so fast - too fast. And suddenly, here she was; now a contest judge. 

She hears the male’s voice from across the room and she turns her head in anticipation for her drink. And, man, Nile and his mocha latte never disappoint.

“You are absolutely the best and this mocha latte is absolutely the best. Thank you.” Ahri hummed with delight as soon as the liquid reached her lips and down her throat. Caffeine was definitely one of the things that can help her get through the day. 

“How have you been? It looks like Moana and Po are doing good.”

To say that Ahri was scared was a complete understatement. She was utterly frightened. And nervous. And anxious. And all of the synonyms combined. 

The former Busan coordinator champion had five years of experience (nearly the equivalent of eight to nine years if you looked at her list of achievements) yet she was practically going to go into cardiac arrest with how fast her heart rhythms were going as if she was entering her very first contest. This was her "grand comeback” (her mother’s words) to the contest scene and not as a former champion but as a judge! And she knew that she needed to calm herself down before the contest began because she could not return to the public looking so unsure of herself (even though that is exactly what is she feeling). 

“Boo, how am I going to do this?” The female whispered to the Togetic in her arms, cuddling her companion even harder because she really wanted to run away - to continue to run away. The show started in one hour and she knew that she couldn’t back out now.

Ahri was startled out of her misery when Boo jumped out of her arms, flying across the waiting room to the person that came through the door. 

“Boo, where are you-” The owner gaped at the scene before her: her Togetic currently circling around one of her fellow judges whom she has yet to meet. Boo was directing the male towards his owner, sensing that Ahri was going to need more than her pokemon’s help in easing her nerves.

“I’m so sorry for Boo, he doesn’t like to stay in his pokeball so I hope he doesn’t bother you too much.” Ahri stood up from her seat sheepishly before remembering to introduce herself with a curt bow. “I believe we haven’t met before. My name is Ahri and today is my first day behind the panel. I hope to learn a lot from my seniors.”

Kitae never did get the opportunity to meet her within those years, even as he competed and became an announcer- one of his biggest role models he had still yet to chat with. Was definitely on the bucket list for sure, but Kitae was definitely busy on trying to keep his own name relevant as it was and building his status. Not only as a top notch coordinate that put his name on the contest world forever, but now being the best Announcer he could be. The contest hall was relatively empty today, and he was waiting in the Lobby- facetiming a friend while he waited for the new judge to show up. He wasn’t given a name, only that he needed to show them around and give them a friendly welcome. Nothing new, Kitae was just itching with curiosity to know who this new judge was.

“Boo, not so fast!”

The female tried her best to catch up to her speedy Togetic who was just way too excited to finally step inside the contest hall for the first time. Ahri always did feel guilty about not being able to expose Boo to one of her passions, but she had already entered BPU by the time she received Boo’s egg and that was the time when she had pushed her ribbons aside to study. Even after graduating, Ahri worked at a Pokemon Center until her mother coerced her to accept the invitation from BPCS. Boo was finally able to step inside the contest hall for the first time, while Ahri finally stepped inside a building full of memories after years of running away in fear and guilt.

Ahri and her companion reached the contest hall at record speed, stopping at the lobby to catch her breath while the ecstatic Togetic continued to fly around in circles at the pretty colors and elegant interior. She took in her surroundings, a flood of emotions rushing through her body, letting out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.

Ahri escaped from her thoughts and remembered what she was supposed to do here - who her mother told her to find. Boo, on the other hand, had already managed to nearly bump into a stranger due to her excitement.

“Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry for my Togetic, he’s just really excited to be here.” She exclaimed, hoping that Boo didn’t hurt him (not that Boo was capable of even hurting a plant, but the owner was always naturally apologetic). “I’m looking for Ryang Kitae. Do you happen to know where he is?”
