chaeyeon's got the dreamiest energy evrr like always lost in thought vibes.
grew up in a cozy little villa above her dad's french-fusion bakery in mapo district.
started out as an ulzzang at 16, which led to launching her own very small, very niche fashion brand, choo choo, with adorable, trendy pieces for teens and tweens.
not a naturally gifted performer, but she's got good heart y'all! will push through every struggle with sheer determination (and maybe a few frustrated pouts).
always taking pictures and videos. if you hang around her, expect to end up in her aesthetic bulletin boards and journals.
not the most athletic, but her long limbs give her a natural grace.
loves to twirl all the time like she's in a movie.
talks in her sleep, and sometimes sleep-texts. she'll send the most cryptic messages at 3AM.
night owl energy but romanticizes mornings lol will wake up early just to sip coffee by the window and pretend she's in a vintage film then is grounchy the rest of the day.
her favorite movie is '13 going on 30' someone help her this is a cry for help
a bit ditzy. forgets choreography, loses her things constantly, and is always slightly out of loop than everyone else. again, help her (x2)...
hard worker and lowkey competitive? if someone tells her she can't do something, expect her to throw herself into proving them wrong. very kim kardashian energy.
when she smiles, her eyes are big and round and pretty, making her look like a baby quail, a chick or a puppy, but when she has a deadpan expression, she looks like the eldest sister and is very cool.
super smiley, giggly, and takes every challenge as an adventure.
main vocalist, face of group of girlnextdoor (+ current maknae).

she's not that concerned that she'd been left out of the japanese debut, but it does leave her with a few more moments to herself, which isn't the best idea for bohyun. the second she's given some free time, her thoughts go off to wonderland, and she's left pondering every life decision she's made until now.
so when she spots chaeyeon who's probably loads busier than she is, she can't help but latch onto her with hopes that hanging out with her friend, even if it's for a few moments, will ease her mind. "miss superstar!" she exclaims before practically jumping into chaeyeon's arms.
"i never realized how weird this rotational group thing could be until i'm stuck to your side like 24/7 and then taken off the roster for a japanese debut," she admits with a chuckle. "but hey, at least they didn't forget about me for the world tour, right? maybe my japanese pronunciation was the problem."
chaeyeon barely has enough time to look up from the planner balanced across her lap before there's suddenly bohyun flying towards her! "mmph!" she puffs as she catches her and they wobble together like two shopping bags before chaeyeon dissolves into laughter, arms instinctively wrapping around bohyun's waist.
"superstar is all you! your iconic rude part is going viral. and don't even joke about them forgetting you," she wrinkles her nose immediately like the sentence itself tastes bad. "because they literally couldn't. you're bohyun!" she says it with the effortless certainty of a pretty weathercaster.
"and i seriously don't think it's your pronunciation. i'm just now learning the ropes of japanese and, it's not looking good. this rotational thing is weird, though..." all the girls have finally gotten close and the fans think of all 8 of them as one tangled little constellation. plus, she got so used to turning corners and expecting bohyun to be there, it feels wrong splitting them apart. "i thought we'd have more time together before the company chose another plans."
Naimei invited Chaeyeon to her brother's bachelor pad in Gangnam with all the ceremony of a socialite unveiling her estate. The truth of the matter was that the apartment belonged to one of her brothers, but one would never have guessed it from the way she swept through the foyer ahead of her guest, smile bright with proprietary pride. Her brother was rarely in Seoul long enough to enjoy the place, leaving the penthouse to collect dust. Naimei, however, had taken it upon herself to rescue it from bachelorhood. Every velvet cushion, every carefully chosen lamp and art piece had passed beneath her scrutiny.
She guided Chaeyeon from room to room with blind enthusiasm, while here and there she paused to straighten a decorative book or fluff a cushion that was already perfectly arranged. "Ignore the fact that my brother technically owns it," she declared with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I've spent more time here than he has. Honestly, I should be charging him an interior design fee." Her gaze swept fondly across the living room. "That sofa? Me. The artwork in the hallway? Also me. If he suddenly decided to sell this place tomorrow, I'd sue him for emotional damages."
chaeyeon follows naimei a pace behind, too occupied with her cardigan that keeps slipping off one shoulder. she turns slowly as she walks, taking everything in like someone wandering through a museum after closing hours. "your poor brother leaves for, what, 3 weeks? and you swoop in with throws and coffee table books." she wanders toward the bookshelf, fingers hovering over a stack of glossy art monographs without actually touching them. everything feels enitrely curated by naimei and there are no accidental placements, chaeyeon is sure of this.
the apartment doesn't resemble a bachelor's apartment at all so much as the kind of place featured in high society magazines. if naimei hadn't confessed, chaeyeon would've assumed she'd lived here for years. "it's very…" she searches for the right word naimei would like, nose wrinkling for a second before her face brightens. "complimentary!" she spins once in the middle of the living room, and the hem of her skirt fans around her knees. chaeyeon is feeling whimsy, she's definitely impressed. "i totally get it your thought process. congratulations, this is your apartment now!" she says it with complete conviction, as if she'd just settled a legal dispute.
Park Chaeyeon (박채연) is a member of GIRLNEXTDOOR and former member of the South Korean co-ed group ALL ACCESS under HYDRA Labels. She debuted as a soloist on February 16, 2029, and as an actress in 2027 in the drama "The View from Room 302."
📇 SECTION I — Identity
Age (June 2042): 36
Current Occupation: award-winning actress (film and TV) / fashion and luxury ambassador / creative director / investor / philanthropist / arts foundation chairwoman / former k-pop idol / singer / model / television and web personality
NEW Faceclaim: song jia (influencer/model)
Relationship Status: engaged to a Spaniard baron and tech/finance CEO *gasp!* and it was confirmed after some speculation, dispatch, and chaeyeon repeatedly insisting that the ring on her finger was "just a ring." but her previous relationship with former group-mate hasegawa haru is still highly discussed! fans insists this is a large mediaplay to bring back the couple together.
Family Status: her dads retired comfortably after spending years pretending they weren't secretly reading every article written about chaeyeon, then eventually becoming informal advisors, rather than her day-to-day manager. their french-fusion bakery is now a local franchise across seoul! her older sister settled into the world high society through marriage naturally, making chaeyeon the rich auntie who spoils her niece rotten. the youngest brother joined her in the entertainment and became a k-pop idol as well under a different company, but now he's the CEO of a non-alcoholic brand? hard to keep track of that one... her relationship with her mom is growing and slowly improving! as for pets, after the passing of her kitty (RIP) of 15+ years, several plants travel with her between filming locations in Seoul because she just refuses to trust anyone else with them.
Industry Timeline:
- 2024 (Age 18): debuts in project girl group GIRLNEXTDOOR (main vocal, face of group, ex-maknae) after only a few months of formal training. the "hydra likes to train civilians" allegations began immediately.
- 2027 (Age 21): lands a supporting role in a romance drama (think "love next door") and those scenes that circulate across social media for months; definitely spawned a cult-like fanbase of film student dweebs? yeah, that happened)
- 2029 (Age 23): cast as the lead in an offbeat sci-fi romance about memory editing and virtual reality. but the project becomes a cult classic on netflix and earns her first serious critical attention.
- 2030 (Age 24): wins "Best New Actress" at some prestigious award show!
- 2032 (Age 26): GIRLNEXTDOOR (gen 1) enters a group hiatus. chaeyeon (accidentally!) becomes the most active member during this time.
- 2033 (Age 27): plays the primary antagonist in a bleak revenge thriller written by kim eun-sook. her performance is so unsettling that her fans spend months reminding each other she is not actually evil.
- 2035 (Age 29): stars in a satirical science-fiction dramedy about digital immortality, celebrity cloning, and minor stuff like subscription-based afterlives, blah, blah. but the series develops a devoted Western following.
- 2036 (Age 30): receives her first nomination and win at Baeksang Arts Awards.
- 2038 (Age 32): headlines a multilingual reality series/phenomenon set aboard an interplanetary luxury spaceship carrying Earth's celebrities or most iconic citizens to a newly terraformed colony just outside Earth. naturally it becomes the most-watched series of the decade.
- 2040 (Age 34): wins a daesang for her lead portraying of a woman trapped in a time-loop bureaucracy where every version of herself works the same office job. her acceptance speech is both emotional and accidentally becomes a national meme.
- 2041 (Age 35): OG GIRLNEXTDOOR reunites for the first time for a one-night anniversary concert. ticket demand briefly crashes several booking platforms.
- 2042 (Age 36): recognized as one of korea's most influential actresses. continues claiming she has "absolutely no clue what she's doing!" despite 60+ awards, 10+ luxury campaigns, and a filmography course taught in SKY universities.
Current Net Worth Vibe: (Comfortable, wealthy, suspiciously wealthy... etc.)
🚀 SECTION II — FUTURE SHOCK
First thought after waking up in 2042? "why are there framed movie posters like, everywhere?"
What surprised them about their future self? how composed she became. young chaeyeon expected adulthood to feel oh so dramatic and glamorous. future chaeyeon moves through life with a startling calm resolve. she speaks very slowly, a whisper. she knows what she wants. she's not desperate for approval anymore.
What is one thing they absolutely refuse to accept about 2042? the fact that journalists keep calling her a veteran actress. VETERAN! as if she fought in a war or belongs in a museum exhibit or something. call it peter pan syndrome, she doesn't care, she hates it and knows that's the industry trying to faze her out.
🎤 III — REUNION SEASON
Most recent headline about them: "ACTRESS PARK CHAEYEON STUNS CANNES RED CARPET WITH FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE IN EIGHT MONTHS." somewhere in the article with little explanation, "her fiancé is seen walking with her..."
Do they actually want this reunion? well, yes! the truth is that acting became her second life, but GIRLNEXTDOOR was her first life. honestly, chaeyeon regrets the years she's spent trying to escape being introduced as "former idol park chaeyeon." now she remembers how she's really just a girl, her love for music, her girls beside her, and wants desperately to rewind the clock.
Are they still in contact with their former members? oh absolutely! adult friendships are messier than trainee friendships and sometimes months pass without speaking, but then bang minah sends a photo at 2:14 a.m. and takada miru responds promptly six hours later. then chaeyeon and the rest of the girls come in (song naimei appears 3 days afterward, of course), and conversation and meetups resume as if no time passed at all.
What is one rumor about them in 2042 that everyone believes? not so much as a rumor than actual reality (but shh) every time chaeyeon finishes a drama, she vanishes. then six months later she casually appears on a film set looking impossibly beautiful. fans insist it's a carefully planned strategy and they're absolutely right. she's usually sleeping, recharging, rejuvenating, reading novels and playbooks, watching vintage romantic movies, and definitely forgetting to charge her phone.
it's not like she didn't expect this. with girlnextdoor's debut being so well received, it's no surprise that the company's pushing them through with various activities and a comeback that's filled with so many things to look out for. on top of that, miru's responsible for the other girls and taking care of new members. she's got a lot on her plate.
that's why she's actually forgotten about her promised spa day with chaeyeon, but when the younger female brings it up with such a bright smile on her face, she can't bring herself to say no. "not saying anything actually sounds pretty nice," she admits with a soft chuckle.
"though, if there's something on your mind, i'm all ears for that as well." she realizes that she can't possibly be the only person with so many things on her mind right now. it was a leader's responsibility to always be on top of what her members were thinking, right?
"mm... well, i don't think anything's wrong, exactly." she smiles to faintly. she doesn't want to worry miru. "it's just..." her shoulders lift in the tiniest shrug. "everything happened so fast. i feel like we're always performing lately." the confession comes quietly, almost absentmindedly, as though she's only now just discovered it herself. "i love meeting all the new girls," she rushes to add with a little laugh, glancing over at miru. "i'm always saying 'hi' to rookie trainees, so i really want girlnextdoor to turn into this huge girl's party."
her fingers worry absentmindedly at the cuff of her sleeve, searching for the shape of a real answer. "sometimes i miss when we were those rookies trainees and nobody expected us to be anything yet." another small smile. "we could mess up a dance break and only our instructor would notice."
she lets out a breathy laugh that disappears almost as soon as it's born. chaeyeon is a wishful thinker, "i think that's why i keep talking about the spa." her eyes brighten again, returning to her light self and ramblings. "it's one of the only places where nobody wants anything from you. we don't have to wave or smile perfectly or remember who likes which pose because the staff is so posh! we can just be two girls with cucumber slices on our eyes pretending the world doesn't exist for a whole afternoon."
it's brutal out here! girlnextdoor's first comeback is everything fans hoped it would be and then some. three new members, a b-side track packed with attitude, new formations and dynamics to memorize, so many new things. every stage feels bigger than the last. so chaeyeon should be celebrating. she is celebrating; really, she is! but somewhere between the endless rehearsals and smiling for what feels like every camera in south korea, she's started to feel like a doll that's been wound a little too tightly.
which is why, the moment she spots miru after their final schedule of the week, she brightens up like a supernova. "unnie!" she says, falling into step beside her, tucking her exhaustion neatly underneath. "you remember our spa day, right?"
chaeyeon has been thinking about it for three days straight. her hands disappear into the sleeves of her hoodie as she walks. "i think i've earned it this month. we've earned it. actually, no. i know we've earned it." the corners of her mouth curl upward. she glances at miru, then away again, smiling to herself. "i was looking at the menu earlier, and they added this rose facial thing. and some kind of scalp treatment." she sighs dreamily. "doesn't that sound nice? we can just sit there and not talk to anybody for like… two whole hours."

SYPNOSIS — chaeyeon falls in love with a fictional man 🌧️📼
WORD COUNT — 269
the dorm is her own underwater dreamescape tonight. the movie playing on the television spills blue light across the living space in soft, blue waves. and chaeyeon simply sinks deeper into the couch with a green clay mask hardening over her face, and a towel twisted around her damp hair like she's some exhausted little bathhouse ghost. onscreen a woman stands beneath a streetlamp while rain paints the alley silver. everybody in old movies looks lonely in the prettiest possible way, you know?
she pulls the blanket to her chin and stares at the male lead through dreamy eyes, already halfway in love with him like's an actual real life man. somebody running through the rain for her like they've just realized life is meaningless without park chaeyeon is what she's after. the fantasy blooms so easily. chaeyeon has always been very talented at emotionally decorating empty rooms.
then the male lead opens his mouth and says something unbearably stupid...
chaeyeon freezes mid-sip of barley tea. her face mask cracks lightly near her jaw. she's genuinely betrayal. "there's literally no man that suits me..." she thinks. numb, she's still stuck on that line until the movie credits begin rolling.
she adjusts the towel on her head and curls sideways into the couch, perfectly content in the wreckage of her own impossible standards. somewhere out there, maybe soulmates exist. maybe cinematic devotion exists. maybe somebody is standing in the rain thinking about her right now. but until proven otherwise, chaeyeon decides her true love is self-care and old indie films where everybody suffers beautifully for only two hours or so.
synergy hovers between them. nayoung can only assume she means they need to perform or fill silence with the correct phrases, but nayoung catches the hesitation in her voice and it reminds nayoung of the beauty in language a little. of the first months in tokyo, when she knew all the right words but none of them felt like hers yet. how you can speak fluently and still sound like you're borrowing someone else's mind? her expression doesn't change much, but she gets closer anyway. distance has never been her instinct.
the mirror catches them together, two versions of the same story written in different fonts. nayoung glances at it briefly, as if checking continuity, then looks back at chaeyeon. there's a moment where she could say something witty and deadly. it would be so easy. it would fit the shape of her, the reputation, the expectation that she will always choose elegance over kindness. instead, she drops her arms, a small surrender to gravity, to the fact that she is here and not somewhere by the sea pretending she has no obligations. if this is what they're calling chemistry, she decides, it probably doesn't start with perfect words and sentiments. it starts awkward, a little unbalanced, and she can see now why the manager chose her. "show me," she says at last.
chaeyeon is stunned! because nayoung had done something deeply, profoundly unfair: she stopped being scary for exactly three seconds. which somehow made her worse. "right. yes. okay. totally!" she immediately almost dropped her phone. smooth, chaeyeon, super smooth. she caught it against her chest with both hands, laughing too quickly and too loud, the sound scattering around the room. it was weird, wasn't it? chaeyeon standing here in pink shoelaces and layered necklaces she forgot to take off before practice, trying to explain choreography to nayoung.
"okay, wait, this part is actually really easy," chaeyeon said, suddenly stepping closer, animated now that movement had finally entered the conversation. "you just go here, then here, and then your shoulders kinda…" she demonstrated it badly at first, wincing. "not like that. that wasn't right. hold on." okay this time was cleaner, sounding out the counts helped. "five-six-seven-eight and boom, boom, turn, pretty face, stare into the group, and yeah…!" she pointed at nayoung during the last part. "your turn, unnie."
♪ haven't you 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒅? I'm the internet girl
every picture of me is, "𝒐𝒉 𝒎𝒚 𝒈𝒐𝒅, it's her" ❤︎ ♪
chaeyeon usually dresses like… u know that effortless "i just threw this on after buying overpriced peaches" energy, simple, alexa chung coded w a canvas tote and no thoughts, very soft indie, but for this project?? she's going full ulzzang mode. hyper-curated. every strand of hair knows its assignment. and pink. so much pink like a whole personality spectrum… strawberry milk, bubblegum, glossy lip tint pink girl that talks super sweet. what else... oh! fits are getting tighter, shorter, shinier. bows. gloss. the tiniest bags that cannot hold a single practical item. preparing an outfit for the evaluation completely unlocked a new personality! she's having fun w it.
nayoung, standing in the middle of the room, looks at her reflection in the mirrors with a face of profound betraying. her "country girl getaway" in ibiza has left her with a complete lack of desire to move her limbs in sync with anyone. she is wearing vintage archive pieces that are definitely not for the sweating, because sweating is something that happens to other people. it is a very un-chic emotion. but when the manager is announcing that chaeyeon—not a professional choreographer or miru, but chaeyeon—will be the one teaching her the steps today, nayoungs face goes through a series of complex, expensive emotions.
"oh..." nayoung says, before a smooth mandarin grumble that translates roughly to 'i am being cursed by the heavens'. she turns slowly, offering a smile that is 10% politeness and 90% "this is all your fault." "chaeyeon-ah," she purrs, her sarcasm so thick you could spread it on a baguette. "i did not realize the company was so poor they cannot afford a teacher and must use... you. how quaint." she crosses her arms, narrowing her eyes, already judging the first movement before it even happens.
chaeyeon felt her soul attempt to climb out of her body through the top of her head.
looking at nayoung right now was like staring directly into a solar eclipse: beautiful, but guaranteed to cause permanent retinal damage. it's always been this way, even as unknown trainees, nayoung was like a high-end porcelain doll she had as young girl that, it was hard to deny her space when she commanded a room.
'oh god, she's doing the eyes thing', chaeyeon thought, her internal monologue reaching a pitch only dogs could hear. 'why me? why today? i should have called in sick. i should have moved to a remote village in the mountains and started a turnip farm. "unnie~," chaeyeon squeaked, cracking in a way that was decidedly not confident and up for the task. she cleared her throat, trying to summon even a fraction of the authority a teacher should have. "it's not that the company is poor, silly! it's just... synergy! we're building... team chemistry?"

EVENT — HYDE ACADEMY 010

hyde academy was supposed to be the dream, right? its now netflix-sanctified, high-definition survival show. it was everything they'd ever been told to want, but nobody mentioned that the high-definition part meant you could see the exact moment the light went out in someone's eyes. and the "model" concept girlnextdoor has sounded so sleek pre-debut, so effortlessly cool until chaeyeon realized by this comeback it was actually just a fancy word for disposable.
she watched lee jae-yi in the reflection of her mirror, her silhouette a sharp line against the hallway. she didn't say anything to the girls. she just adjusted the strap of her bag and walked toward the exit like she was stepping off a cliff and expecting the air to hold her up. chaeyeon wanted to run after her, to trip her, to tell her to stay just so she wouldn't be the only one left who remembered the way they used to laugh before the cameras started hunting for flaws. but chaeyeon just sat there, her fingers digging into the velvet of her vanity chair, a silent witness to another mid-season funeral.
the industry is a hungry thing. it doesn't have a heartbeat; it just has a rhythm, and if you miss a second, you're the noise that gets edited out. she didn't even get to debut, just another nameless trainee...
later, she found takada miru leaning against a cold brick wall behind stage four. she looked like a statue that had been left out in the rain for too long; super elegant, but eroding. her eyes were fixed on a point somewhere past the rafters, somewhere where the "action" didn't hurt so much. i wanted to ask her if she felt it too, the way silence between takes was getting louder, the way the air felt thinner every time another girl disappeared from the call sheet.
chaeyeon wanted to breathe. just once. a long inhale that didn't have to be so performative. but the red light was already blinking in the corner of her vision, and the doubt was a cold stone sitting in the pit of my stomach, not moving. she was still here, and that was the most terrifying part of all.

ACT I. SCENE: a practice room at HYDRA. 1:00 AM. the skyline of seoul is a receipt, a blue hour glow bleeding through the glass. PARK CHAEYEON is a silhouette against the mirror, feeling the glass leech the heat from her spine. she reaches up, fingers clawing into her scalp, tangling in the thick tresses. she wants to rip out a couple of strands out, feel the roots snap, but the lawyer in her head stops her. so the hair stays impeccable. the pressure also stays.
CHAEYEON: everything in this city costs...

🌸 THE PLUM BLOSSOM CHRONICLE: Volume I, Year of the Wood Ox (1805)
🍃 SECTION I — Identity
Name: pyo chae-hwa, "blossom of the pyo lineage" (표채화)
Clan: fallen scholars! chaehwa once lived in a house of high-ranking advisors, full of servants, now reduced to a drafty estate on the outskirts of hanyang. her father's late-life marriage to a woman from a ruthless merchant guild has turned the household into a gilded cage of debt and duty. the woman and her two daughters making her life miserable, similar to that of their servants.
The Reputation: the pamphlets call her the "ghost in the kitchens." neighbors say she is a creature of soot and silence who only appears at the edges of the moving hotel to gather fallen plum blossoms. to the elite, she is a cautionary tale of a noble bloodline gone thin; to the servants, she is the only one who truly knows the rhythm of the steam-pulleys. a peasant girl who never forgets to smile.
🦋 SECTION II — Aura
Color: like a withered peach-pulp. a color of a fruit left too long in the sun. this pale gold that looks like exhaustion to the untrained eye.
Trigger: sound of a string snapping. might be a gayageum in the banquet hall or a frayed rope in the servant's quarters, if it sounds like something fragile breaking under pressure it completely shatters her, sending her running away or crying.
The Interpretation: the matchmakers see her "withered peach" aura and assume she is fading, "you are a plain girl with no vitality or social future." but beneath her polite bows is white-hot passion, vibrating so fast it makes her heart skip fast.
🌷 SECTION III — The Heart
Arrangement: get ready for your hearts to break... she is being 'appraised' by her stepmother for a marriage (tw: age gap) to a ministry official three times her age, old like father. a man who needs a pure bride to wash away his own scandals.
Memory: she possesses a "phantom echo." in few dreams she has, she doesn't hear the rhythmic thud of the palace drums; she hears a electric pulse and sees lights that aren't auras, but neon, alive on their own. she remembers the feeling of running through a city of glass and thunder instead of a labyrinth of paper screens.
The Scandal: little birdies whisper that chaehwa has learned the geomancy of the hotel. people say she knows how to speak to the steam-pulleys and makes rooms move around. and that one night, she moved her stepmother's suite into the path of the waste-bins, a social faux-pas that nearly cost the family their invitation to the spring season this year.

it's been seventy-two hours, and the meeting is still stuck in chaeyeon's brain. she's currently haunting a corner booth in a café near the company, and her sunglasses are propped up in her hair like a plastic tiara she's too tired to wear. the planner in front of her is a wasteland of blank pages, save for a few frantic doodles: cute cakes sliced down the middle, crooked crowns, and two stick figures standing close enough to be a threat, labeled with massive, neon-pink question marks.
she doesn't look up when the seat across from her creaks. the air brings a specific, dry-wood warmth, santal 33, chaeyeon thinks. it's the olfactory equivalent of a vintage leather jacket: a cult classic that's been over-exposed by every cool guy in seoul, yet somehow, on haru, it still feels like a secret. it's understated. it's "i didn't try this hard" in a bottle. a flush creeps up her cheeks, but it's buried away for some time five years from now.
she finally meets his eyes, letting out a breath that's parts sigh, parts exorcism.
"so… are you actually doing this?" she gestures vaguely at the air, as if she could conjure the agency execs and their powerpoint dreams back into the room. "the whole co-ed experiment. shared dorms, which, no. absolutely not! i draw the line at communal bathroom schedules." she slides her sunglasses onto the table with a sharp clack, leans in, grabs his hands, and watches him, searching for a crack in the calm. "please. tell me you're spiraling. i need a spiraling partner."

it feels ceremonial, as if a procession is happening and no one rang the bell. france does that to things. even the air feels styled, all cold light and cigarette ghosts. chaeyeon's in half-costume already, hair clipped wrong on purpose, makeup base too clean to trust. the concept brief for this comeback echoes somewhere behind her eyes. limbo. 'it's not a debut,' she thinks, 'it's a rehearsal.' eight girls suspended in a space that doesn't technically exist, where contracts bend and the rules pretend they're flexible. chaeyeon loves it. but she hates that she loves it.
she spots naimei near the monitors and chaeyeon moves toward her automatically, and when she gets close, she just grabs naimei's sleeve, fingers buzzing, eyes too bright. "no, you don't understand," she says, words spilling as if uncorked. "they don't bring this level of archive out unless they really love us!"
