“I’m not your handler.” — Greg Lestrade
The nicotine patches always has such resonance with me. Like saying ‘You will never be forced to go through anything difficult on your own’.
My new favourite headcanon is: Lestrade gave up on smoking because Sherlock was trying as well.

Team of season3.
Sort of a prequel to THIS
I really missed the young!Mystrade ship. So I’m trying to bring it back into my life.
Watercolors.
Thank you so much @littlebeekeeper for your lovely words that encouraged me to upload this and face my fears.
Oh my god @veritypaya this is stunning. Meet my new phone background:
(I hope you don’t mind!)
I needed a moment to compose myself because this is literally the most flattering thing that has ever happened to me! Of course I don’t mind!
These are beautiful!!
Merry Christmas every single one of you :D Its been a fantabulous year.
After catching a glimpse of Mycroft in the Santa suit, Sherlock is convinced being Father Christmas is his brother’s real job. Why he’s away so much, why he’s so busy and important. And he steals cookies. This is still an unforgivable sin, but a little more forgivable now. - traumachu
reblogging again because I have to comment – the best thing about this is Mycroft-as-Father-Christmas still wearing a gorgeously tailored pinstripe suit, because obviously we must have standards. Also, that he’s giving Sherlock a skull, because that’s not creepy at all. Even Sherlock seems slightly weirded out. I love everything about this.
Kidlock Christmas times! I wish it had turned out better but I’m sleepy and lazy :C
Sherlock: You aren’t coming with me?
Greg: Sherlock, I’m not your mom.
Greg: [Hands Sherlock a lunchbox] Here are your sandwiches. I’ll pick you up at five.
(“Mycroft, I wanna bee.” “You want to be what?” “No! I wanna bee!” “You can’t have just one bee, Sherlock.” “Why?” “They come in colonies.” “Why?” “Because they live in hives.” “I wanna bee colonies.” “When you get bigger you can have all the beehives you want. But first we have to get you washed before Mummy sees you and I get into trouble.” “Buzz, buzz, buzz…”)
I imagine Sherlock has always been a tiny disaster.

A Study in Colours.
Is Sherlock sad because he loves John? Nope.
I see several Jloks shippers stating that this scene above is the strongest evidence that Sherlock loves John. When I read about it I wonder if people really understand the series. They certainly didn’t understand this episode.
The episode begins with the scene in which Mrs. Hudson recounts how she never saw her best friend after her marriage. Her best friend left the party early. At the end of the episode, Sherlock also leaves earlier in the party. Only I see a link here? Every episode in this series has links at the beginning and at the end.
This episode shows how Sherlock thought he was losing his best friend. In this scene, he is happy for the couple, but is sad when he realizes that he is alone. He isn’t sad because he loves John in a romantic way. He’s sad because he thinks he’s alone. The biggest proof of this is that he looks at Janine and smiles, he thought he would get her attention (he forgets John here seconds later) but then he becomes sad again when he realizes she has someone too. This episode does not state that Sherlock loves John. This episode simply reinforces their friendship. This episode is linked to the scene of Mrs. Hudson, when she states that she lost her best friend. It’s all about friendship. This is all about Sherlock’s loneliness. Not because he’s in love with John, but because he thinks he has no one.
Well fuck me, someone put it in words what actually happened. (and as a Johnlocker I know it’s the truth, auch!)
What reinforced that sense of loneliness is when Sherlock deduced that Mary was pregnant, he says to the happy couple, “You hardly won’t be needing me around now that you got a real baby on the way” that scene was bittersweet because all 3 of them were so happy, even Sherlock about the news but then he realizes that he thinks he lost his best friend to domestic bliss, but when baby makes 3, the adventures will be few and far between.
Little does Sherlock know that he would go on to gain not only a 3rd bestie to help him solve crimes, but that he would become godfather and would an important part of baby watsons life.
This episode is overall wildly misunderstood, especially when it comes to Mary. She is often accused of “gloating” over Sherlock’s supposed misfortune etc., while they actually only enjoy friendly banter. Not talking about the fact that for the whole episode she keeps worrying about him feeling neglected.
I will always enjoy their relationship.
I love Mary’s and Sherlock’s friendship. I wish we’d gotten more of it.
Omg all of you have put into words what I couldn’t. Thank you! Because yes that’s exactly how I saw this episode. I could relate so much to Sherlock’s loneliness in this scene and the feeling of being left behind by your best friend because that’s exactly how I feel if my best friend were to get married too. Not because I’m romantically in love with my best friend, but because it feels like I’m going to lose the best friend that I love dearly - love in the fundamental sense of the word.
And it’s so sad to see Sherlock try to cling on, try to feel less lonely by reaching out to Janine only to realize that she already has someone else to dance with. And Sherlock’s falling smile and his resolute nod emphasizes further how lonely he feels. It’s as if he’s finally giving in that everyone already has someone and there’s no place left for him.
Such a poignant scene, and a great episode about their friendship.
See fandom, not everyone interprets SH and JW as romantically in love. Platonic love is just as valid an interpretation. I’m all for reading Johnlock fanfic, and enjoying the fan art – I love it in fact – but please don’t insist it’s canon.
I always interpreted John and Sherlock’s relationship as a deep and abiding friendship - the best of best friends! It is what drew me to the books when I was younger and what made the Moffat and Gatiss’ version so intriguing to me as an adult when I discovered it on the BBC.
And that specific episode is one of my favourites because it explores the nature of their friendship and expands it to include Mary into the fold.
MYCROFT, YOU CUR, UNHAND MY SHIP BEFORE I END YOU
(or, the Dread Pirate Holmes encounters an unexpected foe)
Claire de la Lune
“You shouldn’t have done it, you know.”
Sherlock sipped his tea and stared out the window.
“What else was I going to do? Let you die?” The voice was the same, earnest, intense, even laced with a bit of humor.
“Perhaps tried to shove me out of the way?”
“There wasn’t time for that. Bullets are fast. You of all people should know that.”
Sherlock turned finally, blinking, his heart pounding.
“I just…I just wish…”
“I know. I do too.” Softly.
She rose from John’s chair and came to stand in front of him, reached a hand to brush a curl off his forehead.
Sherlock felt the touch like a breath against his skin, barely there, but real.
So real.
“Can you stay?” he whispered, and closed his eyes as the breath caressed his cheekbone, trailed down to his chin.
“I don’t know. I can try.” A small laugh. “I have…other things to attend to here also.”
“God. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t…”
“No, no. It’s all right. Sherlock, none of this is your fault. If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s mine.” Another small laugh. “I’ll be here as much, as long as I can. Everything will work out, you’ll see.”
“I miss you.”
Her hand on his shoulder was light, just the slightest pressure, and he imagined he could feel warmth - though he didn’t know if that was possible. Maybe it was just…wishful thinking.
“I miss you too. I miss all of you.”
She began fading then, as he knew she must, and something in him broke, and the tears started.
Just before he lost her completely, he heard a whisper: “I’ll be back. I’ll be here with you.”
He smelled her perfume in the room long after she was gone.
“I wonder if I got the right type of dog…”
as @elennemigo has pointed out, this dog probably is molly’s cat Toby, and somewhere in london there is a pathologist panicking because she can’t find her missing cat

Another great thing about BBC Sherlock. Sherlock and his smiles for Mary. He loved her so much. all three of them together were a big ball of dysfunction junction but it worked. That friendship worked because Sherlock and Mary always knew they couldn’t live up to John’s standard and they didn’t even try. They were themselves and even though john could judge them for it- Sherlock and Mary had each other to lean on because they never judged each other. They just connected and loved each other. They protected each other the way sister and brother would. I will miss the Sherlock and Mary dynamic more than anything else.
Even John Watson couldn’t live up to the standard of
