I have officially become so engulfed in a ship I would rather see them as best friends rather than lovers. I want them to be so utterly in love that they are friends rather than dating. I think it’s because a friendship will always mean more to me personally than romantic relationships.

Season three Episode three - His last vow

Sherlock BBC

John Watson sprains a boys are while looking for his neighbours son in a ‘drug den’, his does in fact find Sherlock there too, later in the episode the boy says ‘someone hit me’ while looking at John. John replies with ‘probably just an addict in need of a fix’ trying to relate the conversation back to Sherlock’s being at the ‘den’. Sherlock of course notices who the boy is talking about and in turn says ‘yes I think in a way it was’ talking about John’s almost need to be in the action, his compulsion to violence and war. Something so simple yet meaningful. I adore this interaction not only because of the subtle details in conversation but because of how much it makes me think about John’s character and his role. Sometimes I forget about his anger issues and violent tendencies but whenever they occur it makes me so happy. Knowing that Sherlock has quite literally found his other half. The opposite of his outwardly clever and supposedly ‘calm’ personality, an anger violent man which practical knowledge.

I finally watched BBC's Sherlock and I AM SO MAD THEY KILLED MARY?!?!?!?

First of all, because she is an amazing character.

Secondly:

I am very much on the aroace Sherlock front and I absolutely loved how they made Mary as John's wife work.

She understood how important Sherlock and John are to each other and then she did not only respect that, but she also befriended Sherlock, turning them into a beautiful trio. She could have been jealous, she could have tried to separate them, but she respected their bond, their friendship.  

They all cared so much for each other, I could cry. It was absolutely perfect and then they kill her? Unecessary, hurtful, made me so mad I could not finish the series for over a month.

I am just gonna pretend that death did not actually happen.

Hello Stephie dear! How've you been?

I just came across this one random video in YT, of this guy dissing Everett Ross so hard, and I'm obviously kinda upset about that :(. So I'm here in my favorite Tumblr person's ask box looking for some distraction!

I just wanted to enquire if there were any fics in the Johnlock Fandom where John and Sherlock actively say 'I love you' to each other platonically on a fairly regular basis, or just are used to saying that to each other and acknowledging that they do, before they get into any sort of romantic relationship.

I mean I obviously OBVIOUSLY love their romantic love, it's the purest shit and the closest shit to devotion I've ever witnessed in my life, in fiction or otherwise. They are fundamentally supposed to be with each other, romantically, sexually, platonically, spiritually EVERYTHINGLY!!! They just eerily, cosmically, brilliantly fit. But, even if/when they're not romantically involved with each other, if it's the pining stage or oblivious stage or maybe one of them is aromantic, idk. Even if there were any reason that would rule out a romantic sort of possibility, temporarily or permanently, I feel like there is still such a staggering amount of love and understanding and regard they have for each other, and I feel they deserve a universe where they can freely express that. I feel we as readers deserve to know they've always loved, and known they had.

Idk what got me thinking about this, but something I really love in Moriarty the Patriot is the different ways that Sherlock’s relationships with Liam and John are portrayed.

He has a close bond with both of them, but his bond with John seems 100% platonic while his bond with Liam seems far more like love, but both of them are treated as really important in his life.

Whenever gay (or really any same-sex lgbtq) characters are shipped with each other, there’s always the complaint “why can’t characters just be friends.” On the other hand, there’s also sometimes a tendency to abandon friendship entirely in favor of shipping (although I’m not going to fight people on who they see as a couple).

I think Moriarty the Patriot really highlighted that the problem here isn’t with fan perception (unless you’re homophobic. Then your perception is wrong), but with how different relationships are portrayed.

Fan service and queer baiting make it harder to draw the lines on what friendships actually are while censorship and vagueness make it harder for queer relationships (not that Moriarty the Patriot is totally in the clear for this itself).

So often, those lines get super blurred and just sort of left up to audience interpretation. And while I don’t need everything spelled out for me, romance and friendship aren’t the same (although how they differ is different on a per-person basis) and seeing them handled with their realistic differences (for Sherlock) does a lot to really highlight which one each is.

You have all the recs and I love it! Thanks for all you do! I do have an ask though-- what fic would you recommend to someone who was not a Johnlock shipper, but was open to the possibility? I asked this question of a Doctor/Master group once and got recc'd one of my favorite Doctor Who fics of all time (it also sold me on the ship, although I don't really have any OTP for Doctor Who). So I guess I'm trying to repeat the past, even though I don't need to be sold on Johnlock. :-)

Ohhh, this is a tough one, because my journey went from “i like them”, “bromance”, “epic bromance”, “goddamnit i ship it”. LOL. Ah, actually, maybe that would be a good way too for you. I think for sure the fic that got me into it a bit more was this one:

It’s epic bromance bordering on romance, and it’s the one that sticks out the most for me when I crossed over into “I ship it” territory. 

But I think any of the fics on my Platonics lists will help!
