specifics about the black org verse:

a rookie police detective in the 80s tasked with investigating a cult that purportedly found a way to stop aging. stumbled onto their base and was affected by a mystery liquid kicked over by the culprits as they escaped. blacked out and woke up feeling normal - did not think much of this incident & went on with his life.

however, shortly after he noticed that he was being followed & monitored. considering the timeline he figured it had something to do with the cult & re-opened the investigation privately. soon after, the cult came in contact with him, saying that he was special & blackmailed him into complying.

he didn't, so they killed his family & took him for experimentation. he was listed as MIA. as time went on, all heiji knew was of the base & tests. he'd spent more time being experimented on than he'd lived. the higher ups gave him an option to join the ranks - they'd pretty much done all of the research they could on him already, & he has no identity to go back to.

given the choice, he decides to take up the offer, with the vague notion that he'll take down the org from within at some point, when he's gotten enough sway & chance to do so.

he passes training with flying colours and gets assigned various tasks until hes at a high enough level to be assigned a code name: klarer. due to the BO connections, he's offered a spot on the osaka police force as a rookie, under superintendent hattori heizo who is one of the operatives & now his handler. mainly investigates cases related to immortality drug rumors & helps cover up / forge evidence for the BOs purposes within the police force. also does shady undercover shit for the BO in his off time

so his real age is around 50 in this verse and he biologically looks about 23. & obviously he's going to act differently bc my man has seen the horrors tm. + he's like an ojisan lol. & i don't really see him forming romantic connections in the verse but, we shall see.

it's not his style to read deeply into dreams. however, his latest had arrived in technicolour; sharp & detailed in a way that most dreams aren't. while there'd only been one clear instance of his subconscious turning true ( kudo had a bruised chainlink imprint at his sternum for weeks, as proof ) , there's more - further evidence he's reluctant to divulge at a risk of sounding crazy. the recurring image of a burning shrine leading up to the genji case; then after, a hanged woman, purple dress dripping wet under a waterfall, & the gut-swooping sensation of falling off a cliff.

in any other instance, he would've denied her claims. but the strange girl is cocksure, steady in the way she holds herself, brimming with unspoken confidence as she speaks things he's never told a soul. she's mystical & otherworldly, & it scares him silent. the truth is often hard to deny when it's laid so bare.

finally he settles for, " ... who are you? & how would'ya know ... do ya have those dreams too? " she speaks as if they're familiar, but heiji can't think of anyone he's close with from ekoda. hakuba? surely not. when she mentions protection, fingers twitch. he's suddenly desperate to feel the comforting string holding the omamori close to his chest. still, he's has the strangest feeling that the girl means something else entirely. eyes narrow, " what kind of protection are you thinking of? "

lmfao. headcanon time. heiji would absolutely despise studying law. he picks it because that's the standard route you go down to become a police officer, but there's so much theory and semantics involved in it that it makes his head spin. he thinks it gets better once he's on the force, but then he's slapped in the face with police bureaucracy. as a teen detective, he only ever saw the best parts of police work & was disillusioned about how exciting the job actually was. once he gets there ... he's like oh brother. why am i typing up a 10 page statement for this difficulty witness that wouldn't stop waffling. why am i labelling 200+ items of evidence in these plastic bags. im actually going insane

like he thought becoming a policeman was all he ever wanted, but once he gets there, he's like ... huh. i think he'd end up transferring to the special investigation team in the long run ( the department specializes in immediate, high stress situations like kidnappings or chasing suspects ) , because that's the kind of thing that heiji is good at and enjoys. i could see him missing the deduction aspect of homicide, but he would massively prefer action to the undending backlog of paperwork and tedious administration that comes with working in division 1.

ultimately, i do think that heiji would be better of as a private detective / investigator, rather than being a part of a highly structured organization like the police force, but he would feel a bit of pressure to stay in the org due to his dad. at the same time, he's a bit of a nepo baby so i could also see him passing off his paperwork to other people, lol. and that would work for a few months until his dad finds out about it & tears him a new one ... orz

what they smell like: woodsy with notes of mint. his hair picks up the incense smoke from shrines & his fingertips smell like shinai wax. he stinks of smog, hot asphalt & petrol after a ride. his go to deodorant is a strong mint, but he sweats through it really fast.

how they sleep (position, schedule, etc.): sleeps on his back with his hands behind his head or the pillow. he wakes up with pins and needles from the bad habit. he sleeps pretty early like his parents, but if he's wrapped up in a case he forgets to sleep. gets cranky if he's sleep deprived. a morning person.

what music they enjoy: he's a bit of a music snob ... likes japanoise and classic american rock - think shonen knife, ulfuls, bon jovi, led zeppelin. his parents think that his music is exceptionally noisy lol. he also grew up listening to his parents cassettes, so he also has a nostalgia for kayokyoku.

how much time they spend getting ready in the morning: like ... 10 minutes lol. that man just scrubs water on his face & gets dressed. 20 if you persuade him to stay long enough for breakfast.

favorite thing to collect: he likes antiques & trinkets! cassettes, charms, traditional weapons or ornaments ... you name it. he has a lot of junk at home he holds sentimental value in. if he had the money, he would 100% collect bikes & traditional weapons, but as things are he only has the one bike for now.

left or right handed: right handed!

favourite sport(s): the obvious answer here is kendo - he follows the all japan, tozai-taiko & world kendo championships pretty closely. he also likes baseball & supports the chicago white sox.

favourite tourist-y thing to do when traveling: he's never travelled outside of japan. however, when he visits other provinces, he likes buying their local charms or trinkets & eating regional food! he also likes historical attractions, especially if there's samurai history. i could see him geeking out if he visits fukushima or ishikawa prefectures where there's been preservation of a lot of edo-period and samurai heritage.

favourite kind of weather: his favorite days are ones that are sunny, but with enough shade and wind to feel refreshing.

weird/obscure fear they have: he isn't superstitious, per se, but he's definitely creeped out by folklore. western mythology / horror flicks are fine, but local stories about toyotomi hideyoshi or the yodayabashi river creep him out. he's not going to run home screaming, but he would very much prefer not to be at those locations during the dead of night or on obon, lol. he's like: i'm not tempting fate like that.

the carnival / arcade game they always win without fail: he didn't grow up playing arcade games because his parents were strict about technology - as a result he's not particularly good at any of them. but his fave arcade game is actually taiko no tatsujin. he's definitely embarassed by how much he likes the cute :3 drumming game. he's taking it to the grave.

" his eyes stray to the calling card of the emergent serial killer: the kyousha shogi piece placed next to the bodies with it's point facing east.

" oh, & uh, " he grabs kudo's sleeve with his ungloved hand to catch his attention, " tox is gonna take their sweet time as always, but check this out. " he uses his gloved hand to press at the back of tanaka's arm. it blanches, before the livor mortis blooms back even stronger, making the unusual hue stand out. " 's weird, no? the color's too bright, & they're both like that, too. could be poison. "

though, it's never really so cut & dry with these cases; he's not ruling anything out yet.

conan movie staples in no particular order:

if heiji is there, he will definitely say oi kudo at least 10 times within the first 30 mins of the show and then start arguing with kazuha over nothing

kogoro is useless, he's either drinking with the suspects/victim or simping over barely legal women (who are usually also suspects)

agasa hakase is randomly there dressed in a onesie to make a pun for 2 minutes and then he's gone again.

conan makes an excuse in order to track the culprit or talk to the fbi/psb, like needing the toilet ?? or staying the night at hakase's house

if heiji is part of the case, conan will think 'souka...!' after solving something and then say 'oi, hattori...', and then heiji will smirk and say 'aah, machigai nai'. and then they start running off together in the same direction

at some point, ran will be in danger and then randomly mistaken conan for shinichi as she's blacking out. the after image of shinichi starts forming behind conan, usually as he calls her name

conan will chase the suspect and defy gravity on the skateboard along impossible objects, like bridges, ropes, cars, ferris wheels, trains, cranes, pipes, buildings, satellite dishes etc. bonus if conan does a sick flip midair over a car or a truck and the kids in the car scream 'kakoii!!!'

conan has ESP and knows exactly when ran is thinking of him so he screams RAAAAAN in the middle of whatever he's doing

mansplaining to the murderer with a smirk on his face and then one half of his glasses turn white. bonus if he has his foot on a ball or his fingers on the dart watch

criminal: 'dare dayo, boya?!' *smirk* 'edogawa conan, tantei sa.' there is usually also wind blowing his hair around. don't ask why.

in the middle of the case there will be a haibara cameo, & conan will use her to find case relevant info and then hang up on her mid-sentence when she's telling him to be careful. and then haib will be like '*sigh* mattaku' but also smile a bit (girl stand tf up)

the detective boys will yap / send images to conan about something entirely unrelated to the case and then somehow conan solves the entire mystery. a bolt of light zips past his head and he's like 'naruhodoune.' and then he runs off with ran calling 'matte conan kun!' after him

glowing foot + ball kicking + screaming 'ikeeeeee', extra points if the ball is extra big or explodes or deflects a bomb/bullet
