Many moons & seasons passed on by during these 21+ years of schooling & training. Finally, I’ve reached the peak of Everest & this has been the ultimate test of delayed gratification. Many aspects of my life were put on hold as I spent the days tenaciously studying, passing board exams, & invariably learning a superfluous amount of knowledge. Each obstacle I encountered along the way made me the person I am today & the doctor I will be. Medical school was one of the hardest of my life & there was no way I could have survived without my army support system. I am here in this moment because of you & for that I’m eternally grateful! The work for the next part of my journey will not be easy, but I promise to keep on climbing for my future patients. The universe gave me this profound privilege & honor to see humanity at its rawest & most vulnerable form. For this very humbling & powerful reason, I will continue my fight to stay on the frontline battleground as a guardian & real-life Avenger!

I’ve always been a planner; however, I’ve learned to be flexible with my plans bc perpetually there’s been threatening storms in my ocean🌊 of a life. No matter how hard it may be, I ride like a surfer🏄‍♀️with those waves as they come. I wasn’t born with patience & resilience. I developed these character muscles💪🏼bc I had no other choice but to persevere through those unwelcome circumstances. If you looked up my name in the dictionary, what would it say & how would it describe Sujana? 3 important words: honesty, empathy, & resilience. In order to be a brown or black girl in this world, you have to be resilient. I’m the type of person when someone says I cannot do something, I will use it as fuel to keep going. In every aspect of my life, I have used grit to persevere.🧘🏻‍♀️I’ve faced more obstacles than I could imagine but all of them have made me more courageous. My proudest accomplishment of 2020 is that I survived COVID-19, not once but twice, while completing medical school! 👊🏼

What if you were a victim of circumstance? What if you were born in a country where hitting a button to get water was a dream & not a reality? What if your reality meant walking 3-5 miles away from your home to retrieve 5 gallons of dirty water(that is going to make you sick). Only to have to turn around & carry that water(that weighs over 40 pounds) for 3-5 miles just to get it back home. For over 1/3 of the world’s population, that is reality. You can do something, guess what?!?An organization based out in NY called charity: water is fighting this world water crisis head on. This nasty, virulent virus will try to conquer us. We have the power to transmute it by channeling our inner energy. We can & will endure by standing strong through this storm. We can treat these lows like a passing cloud. Let’s walk this darkness together. Remember, this storm shall pass eventually.

This dashingly tall world we live in has made yet another time revolution. Although this year has presented some of the worst moments, experiences, & circumstances I didn’t think was possible, I’ve witnessed the human strength within us to grow enormously from those battles. Just as diamonds are made from immense pressure, clothes become clean by being beaten, & seeds sprout from darkness, we are shaped into what we overcome. Obsessively grateful for the present & future good/bad. Bring it on 2020!👊🏼 Wishing everyone much love, good health, & to live life consciously with purpose these 365 days!❤️

Medical school is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. The amount of work/hours is physically & mentally draining. I’m in class all week, study another 30-40 hours (honesty I’ve lost count), and somewhere in there I have to fit in time to sleep, eat, shower, and have some coping skills. There are times where I question if I can do this. Is it worth it? And you know what, I always come back to saying YES! I'm doing this for my future patients. I cannot wait to be a healer & provider someday. Just have to keep moving forward no matter how discouraged or tired I get because this profession is my soul & passion!👩🏻‍⚕️🔬🥼🚑📟🧬💊🦠💉🧫🧪

For most of my life, I’ve always had a peculiarly busy mind. I can never remember a time when my mind wasn’t occupied with some sort of activity. I struggle with anxiety on a daily basis & will probably struggle with it for the rest of my life. However, I know how to tackle it when it gets too much (music🎧, self-reflection🤔, deep breathing, and meditation 🧘🏻‍♀️). It’s okay to not be okay.❤️👌🏼

Who am I? A fighter of daily chronic pain. As a complication of shingles, I developed postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). This means that even when I am not having an active shingles outbreak in an area, I still feel the pain and itching sensation. Sometimes it can be quite severe and can last for varying lengths of time. Some days are tough. I get angry, frustrated, and cry. I often ask myself, why me? I try to take a step back and reflect that in the grand scheme of life, this isn’t the end of me. There are people who are suffering from things a lot worse than what I’m dealing with. We all have our battles. Join me and keep fighting!

Sometimes crossroads comes into your life or a wall that forces you to take another direction. We can heal physically & emotionally through the power of our thoughts. Use boldness, strength, adventurous spirits, & an unlimited power to push through barriers. 🤟🏼💕✌🏼

It's National Osteopathic Medicine Week! DO's receive an additional 300 + hours of training in medical school in anatomy, the musculoskeletal system, and learning osteopathic manipulative treatment. As a medical student, I see how the field of medicine is based on one’s achievements: grades, test scores, prestige, published papers, research... the list could go on. While these achievements are cool and all, at the heart of medicine is the reason why many of us went into this field in the first place— the patients, the problem solving, the team work, and making a difference (whether it’s big or small). The fact that in my future I get to meet and serve people every single day is pretty dang amazing. I don’t ever want to forget that. As always, continue to work hard and remain humble!❤️👩🏻‍⚕️
