being in love is strange but what no one tells you about are the complexities of a serious, long term relationship. no one really talks about the ugly times…love is hard work foh. you cannot be selfish, closed minded and unable to compromise. you must be willing to make changes to yourself. you must be willing to self reflect. you must be willing to be emotionally available and comfort your lover. love changes you for the BETTER. love makes you stronger. love makes you resilient yet softer at the same time.

my point being: you may want to be in a relationship but please ask yourself, am i ready to allow someone in? am i ready to take responsibility for my actions and words? am i ready for someone to tear down the wall i’ve built around myself?

this post isn’t meant to make love seem scary or undesirable it’s an amazing thing but i just find that soooo many people end up in less than fortunate relationships where one person isn’t putting in the same effort as the other, one person isn’t emotionally available, etc.

i feel like this can be avoided by doing a lot of self reflection and healing (either from past failed relationships, or just healing in general!) before getting into a relationship. you don’t have to be 100% ready to take on the world with this person, but you have to be ready to deal with not only your baggage, but THEIR baggage too. you have to unpack together and start anew.
