local woman alarmingly quick to throw herself in the face of danger if it means she might get to kiss a werewolf
you miss 100% of the shots you dont take
Onew's trajectory and experimentation since leaving SM for Griffin has been *fascinating.* He's really like, "I wanna try adding some elements of rock here, jazz here, pop punk over there, sprinkle in some of the ballad style I'm known for, add a dash of lo-fi, a summery feel-good bop fits nicely there, some disco next, and, fuck it, let's throw in an extra hip-hop verse--"
There is nothing he won't try, he's soooo damn prolific (so many mini albums, a full album, multiple music videos/live performance videos per album, a WORLD TOUR??? in only 2 years?!), and yet he still somehow always has that Onew signature style in every genre he tries.
That's my bias. 😌💙💎
THEY LOOK SO COZY

Trees, like animals, can also experience albinism, though it is extremely rare.
the reason it’s rare is because without chlorophyll, the plant can’t get energy, and dies shortly after sprouting unless it has some other source of food. so if you see a plant as big as the one in the picture that doesn’t have any green in its leaves, it’s getting its nutrition from the roots of a neighboring plant of the same species, feeding on the sugars created by the other plant’s photosynthesis.
albino plants are basically vampires.
For a long time, scientists thought they were parasites, and couldn’t figure out why the bigger plants didn’t release chemicals to kill them.
Turns out, the lil’ ghost redwoods benefit their hosts by filtering toxins and acting as a sort of backup immune system.
They’re vampires, and they’re commensal, symbiotic mutualists!
this is super cool! I had no idea
This is among the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
we’ve already discovered forests where trees share nutrients with young or disadvantaged trees and forests where trees can ask their neighbors for some extra food (they literally send a signal requesting aid, via the web of fungus that connects their roots) and forests where surrounding tees will keep a tree alive even when it has been reduced to a stump through some tragedy…
so, while i love the playfulness of “vampire” and i commend the specificity of “commensal, symbiotic mutualists” i think it’s worth considering, at this point, if “member of the community” might not be at least as apt
So anyways with the rapid rise of fascism I feel it’s a good time to point out that it’s perfectly legal to follow unjust orders slowly, badly, or inefficiently
Breaking the law, even an unjust law, has consequences that not all can afford. But also a very large number of us are also very stupid, or very confused, or very lazy, and so it’s not unreasonable that someone at the bottom of the chain of command might make a typo, or misplace some paperwork, or leave a Friday afternoon email for Monday morning.
When something goes wrong, or an operation slows down, because a low-level worker somewhere sent a package to the wrong address or left someone on hold for an hour or didn’t fill out a particular form correctly- Do you immediately assume malicious intent? Or do you usually just brush it off as some underpaid idiot being bad at their job?
You also gotta not brag about it. Keep your political opinions on the down low. Be noncommittal or ignorant or undecided. Say things like “I’ve never heard of that”, “where did you hear that?” or “that’s interesting, I heard a conflicting story from here, how weird”. Never be outwardly confidant of what you know. When there is a silence, don’t fill it- leave the space and let the other fill it for you. That’s how you get information, that’s how you find sources, that’s how you reduce the value of anything others get out of you.
Virtue signalling by wearing pins and ribbons and loudly declaring your place is not safe in some environments. It will place scrutiny on you and everything you touch. Nobody believes the guy who says “fuck my boss and everything he stands for” scratches the boss’s car by accident, even if it is an accident.
If you want to slow the march of a tank, filling the path with mud is going do more than laying down in front of it.
So fun fact: back during the Second World War, the U.S. Army, yes that U.S. Army, wrote an entire manual about how to sabotage a giant machine made of people that is destroying the world and everyone in it. It's called the Simple Sabotage Field Manual. What @teaboot describes is one of the most highly recommended strategies in there, because just about anyone can do it no matter what role they have in the machine, and it's really remarkably effective.
The whole thing's on the internet archive and I highly recommend reading it cover to cover.
What’s going to make you happy right now? Is it some cake? Is it a nap? Is it calling your mom? Is it going on a drive and blasting music? Is it taking a bath? Is it reading a book?
Check in with yourself because you deserve that happiness, whatever it is.
I use this with my hospice patients a lot. Because “is there anything I can do to help?” rarely gets a response. But, “I’ll be here till 6:30 and would like to do one thing to make your room more comfortable before I head out” frequently does get an answer. Often something they deem “too small to bug anyone with” like closing the blinds so there’s no reflection on the tv, or repositioning their socks because the heels have wandered into the front and are uncomfortable, or they want ice cream before dinner today, or getting an extra blanket.
I also use this on myself. What’s one thing I could do to make my environment more comfortable right now? Does it cure my mental illness? Hell no! Does it make me feel more in control of my feelings and the world around me? You betcha!
I’m going to try to apply this to my current situation, since right now things feel very out of control. Thanks!

it's a really scary and sad time in the US right now. but you guys have absolutely blown me away with your generosity - we SOLD OUT of protect trans kids stickers. that's almost $3,000 raised for transcontinental pipeline to help relocate folks from unsafe states to CO ;_;
and, since it looks like we're in it for the long fight, i ordered more stickers. if you want to make a donation and pick up a sticker at the same time 100% of proceeds go to TCP
thank you all for making this fundraiser happen, i am blown away. it's felt good to help, and not just be a bystander in all of this. it's scary and sad and i'm afraid for the future, but i also know we're in this together and it turns out we can do pretty great stuff together. stay safe, love you all 💙🤍💖
