“Hey, baby.”
You flinched, gasping at the sound of Michael’s voice as he appeared behind you in the bathroom mirror. “Oh my god, babe.” One hand clutched to your chest, the other gripping the edge of the sink, you leaned toward it taking a relieved breath. “I didn't even hear you come in here.”
“I was being stealthy.” He wore a silly smile on his face, but you weren't as amused, frowning just slightly.
“You scared the shit out of me.”
“Awww," he laughed, quietly, "I'm sorry.”
“And aren’t you early?”
“Ok, so, check this out.” He stepped closer, placing his hands onto the marble at your sides, caging you in. “I’ve been thinking about you aaaall day, mama. And I just couldn’t wait to get home.”
You dried your hands on the small towel hanging next to you, grinning up at his reflection. “You missed me?”
“So bad.”
A bigger smile was creeping onto your face, but then you realized something. Your brows scrunched in confusion. “Why are we talking so low?”
“Tink is sleep.”
“Oh, ok. That must’ve just happened.”
“Which means we have about fifteen minutes, give or take,” he said, hurrying out of his jacket and tossing it to the floor.
Your head jerked forward, lips pursed, but you were only partially confused now. “Um, to do what?”
Ignoring you completely, he curved his arms around your waist and licked his lips, trailing wet kisses at the crook of your neck.
“Nope.” You whipped around to face him, throwing your hands up to his chest before he could wrap you up too tightly. Or get you too loose.
“Why not?”
He was frowning like you were the one not making any sense. So, naturally, you frowned back, aware that he was the actual crazy person. Perpetually pussy drunk.
“Baby, what if she wakes up? What if she walks in here?”
He shrugged. “Lock the door.”
“But, then, what if she needs one of us and we’re in here with the door locked? Being nasty.”
“Baby, I need you.”
“Mike, you gotta focus, boo,” you instructed, snapping your fingers near his face. “Focus.”
He sighed and dropped his head in defeat. He knew you were right, but his hunger was outpacing all of his good sense right now. “If she needs one of us, I can move quickly.”
“Ok, but she’s right in the next room. What if she hears something? She could be scarred for the rest of her little life.”
“Simple. You’re the loud one. Just be quiet.”
Your eyes widened as your jaw fell slack, into a smile. “Not ‘Mr. huff and puff, moan and groan’ tryna play me--” Both of you ducked into near-silent laughter, throwing your hands up to catch the noise before it could go too far. “You be quiet, too, shit.”
“Ok, ok. I will. So, come ooon.” He pressed his body against yours, allowing you to feel all of the frustration he'd been carrying around with him. Your stomach flipped.
“Mike… I don’t know about this.” You bit your lower lip, knowing you were very close to giving in.
“Mama… please?" he whispered right against your ear, grazing it lightly with his soft lips. "You know you love the way I make you feel.”
He raised one of your legs and moved even closer. The desperation in his words as well as his unsteady movements had you leaking into your panties.
“Baby,” you released a frustrated sigh, “...we can’t. Not while Tink’s in here.”
“But she’s asleep, Y/N. Come on, we're wasting precious time.”
You stared at him for a second, just to see how serious he was. There wasn’t a playing bone in his body. Without warning, he grabbed your waist and lifted you up onto the sink, sending some of your products tumbling over.
“Michael!” you whispered, intensely.
“Just let me…” he begged, going straight for your lips. You dodged his kiss, but his hand was ghosting your thigh and slowly creeping into your shorts. “Let me make that pussy feel good.”
You gasped as his lips touched your neck right as those filthy words entered your ears. He didn't usually talk like that, until it was something real crucial. Your glossy walls clenched around nothing. His brain wasn’t in full control and yours was about to follow the leader.
"But, baby, you know its just a cat nap. She's not even sleep for real," you breathed, eyes closed, neck stretched out and giving him more space.
"We got about ten minutes now."
He was relentless. In the moment, there was only one logical thing you could think to do. You knew you would pay handsomely for it later, but that was a problem for future you. “…Tink, baby, daddy’s home!” you suddenly yelled, covering your face right after.
You watched through your fingers as he backed away, blinking slowly, eyes wide. “Y/N…” he whispered, mouth fallen in disbelief. You licked your tongue out at him, laughing uncontrollably at the genuine shock in his expression. He started to shake his head, unable to hold his laughs seeing you lose it. "I can't believe you, girl.”
"I'm sorryyyy! I didn't know what else to doooo!"
His head slumped back and he huffed dramatically toward the ceiling. Of course, you just laughed. About two seconds later, Tink ran into the bathroom with a huge smile, rubbing the residual sleep from her eyes. “Daddyyyy!”
“Tiiiiiink!” He scooped his baby girl up, peppering kisses onto her cute little face. Then he turned back to you and put his hand over her ear. “I’m tearing that ass up tonight.” Your mouth dropped. He'd spoken softly, but didn't want that to curb the severity of his statement. “And I'm not playing.”
"Oop!" You folded your lips in and bit them, letting your head fall. You knew you were in trouble, but it was your favorite kind. Truthfully, you couldn't wait for the sun to go down. "Well, tear it up then."

< chapter 2
I had been blessed with a very rare situation. Cam hadn’t left for work, yet I was home alone. He always requested that I cook the day before his flight, but, today, we didn't have all of the necessary ingredients for whatever he was asking for. I didn't care enough to remember what he wanted, and, since my jaw was still a little puffy, he was also forced to make the grocery store run on his own. After he had been gone for a solid ten minutes, I saw my opportunity. I hadn't actually spoken to Mike in ages, so I decided to call him up while I had the chance.
“Hey, applehead,” he answered, his tone delightfully groggy. The sexy, raspy ‘morning’ voice was in full effect. "I knew I felt good about today for some reason."
“Awww! Hey, my boo boo boo boo bear,” I half mumbled, using a voice usually reserved only for babies. The comforting melody of his high pitched laughter fell into my ear. I had been craving it for the longest.
“Girl, I miss you so much.”
“I’m saying. I wanted to hear your voice really badly.”
“Yeah, I almost forgot what you sound like.”
“Anyway,” I giggled. “You actually sound like you were sleeping. Did I wake you?”
“You did.”
“I'm sorry.”
“No, I'm happy you called. How are you?”
“You sure? ‘Cause I can let you go back to sleep and just talk to you later.”
“You gonna hang up on me or something?”
“No, I'm not hanging up on you,” I barely replied, laughing way too hard. It even hurt my jaw a little. “I'm just trying to make sure you good.”
“Why wouldn't I be good?”
The silliest smile found its way onto my face. I was so glad he couldn't see me. “Ok, let me stop playing with you.”
“Mhm. You by yourself?”
When I saw her name pop up on my screen, I knew she was alone. This would’ve been a text conversation otherwise. The only time we really got to talk was when she was here. Which was spaced out, but still pretty often. Her first visit was my suggestion. She sounded like she needed to get away, so I offered up my place. Understandably, she was reluctant, but decided to come a week or so after the initial invitation. We had been knowing each other for about six months then, and I felt comfortable enough to share my space with her. When she got here, all she wanted to do was stay inside. I didn't pressure her, because I was sure there was some fear involved, but I did eventually convince her to hit the streets with me. Ever since, her getaways had become customary. She would notify me the day before he was leaving, and I’d plan to pick her up as soon as I could. She’d stay with me for two weeks, then she’d go back home for a week before she returned. She said it was because she didn't want to wear out her welcome. I told her that wasn't even possible, but I was ok with her doing things however she felt most comfortable. Either way, I enjoyed her company. The arrangement wasn't the most ideal of situations, but I just couldn't shake the fact that things were just better when she was around.
“Yeah. He just went to the store.”
“Ok. So, how are you?” I asked, referencing my earlier question.
“I'm good, boo. Sitting in this house looking ugly,” she said, giggling at her own lie. “I been missin’ you, too.”
“When am I gonna see you then?”
“He leaves in the morning.”
Truthfully, shamefully, I always looked forward to this news. My grin was so wide I wouldn't be surprised if she could hear it through the phone. “Yeah? Well, I can come tomorrow. Or do you wanna wait a little bit?”
“Wait for what?”
“I mean, I was just checking. It's whatever you wanna do.”
After a slight pause, realization set in. She smacked her lips and then came the laugh. “You are not funny.”
“So, you want me to come tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow, Mike! Definitely tomorrow.”
I chuckled, hearing her try to speak through her giggles. “I'm just messing with you. You know I'll be there.”
“Mhm. What time?”
“What time will you be ready?”
“Around eight-thirty or nine.”
“I’ll come at nine.”
“Yeah, that’ll be perfect. I can't wait to see you.”
“Me either. It's been a while.”
“It has. I miss your face.”
“Yeah?”
“Mhm.”
“What you miss about it?”
For some reason, my face got so hot. I sat back, twirling a piece of my hair, snickering into the phone. “Anyway.”
I heard him laugh a little. “You're funny. It’s good to hear your voice, though, mama.”
“Yeah.” I just wished that he and Cam were more alike. Or that they could switch places, or something. Mike was just everything, the same way I knew that Cameron could be. But, somewhere along the way, I guess he had forgotten how to show it. “…Oh, yeah, I dreamed about you last night. We were dead ass flying.”
“What was this one about?”
I almost always shared my dreams of him with him. Only because they had all been mostly innocent. Up until last night. If I would've been thinking, I wouldn't have even mentioned it. Now I had to tell him. But no way was I about to tell him everything. “You came here, left with me, and we didn't come back,” I half lied.
“Hmmm.”
“Yeah.”
“Well, you know what I told you.”
“Yes,” I smiled. “I know.”
“Mhm. Nothing's changed. Whenever you’re ready.”
I bit my lower lip, so taken by his words that I couldn't even say anything. Michael had always been honest with me. From the beginning I knew that our friendship was important to him, but I also knew that his interest in me went much deeper. I really didn't know what to do with that.
“So, what are we doing tomorrow?” He continued.
“I'm just happy to be getting away for a while.”
“You say that every time I ask.”
I smacked my lips at him. He already knew I was the most indecisive person on the planet. “But it's the truth. I would come over there right now if I could.”
“I can be there in like twenty minutes.”
“Michael, no,” I laughed. He was a mess and a half. Knowing he lived more than twenty minutes away.
“You always giggling. Goofy self.”
"Shut up."
We talked for about forty-five more minutes until Cam got back home. I was already downstairs in the kitchen, so I could easily hear when he pulled into the garage. Though I was nowhere near ready, I told Mike I had to go and hurried to erase all evidence of our interaction. First his number from my call log, then the smile from my face. Right before Cam walked in with takeout from King Spring, my favorite Chinese spot.
“I got Chinese. I thought maybe you would like that better than cooking.”
Barely even looking his way, I responded with a weak grin. Only because I really didn't feel like cooking. Especially not for him. “Yeah, thanks,” I mumbled, unimpressed. He sat the bag up on the counter and passed me the carryout box from the top, along with a handful of duck sauces.
“You're welcome.”
We washed our hands and he took a seat beside me up at the island as I began to squeeze packet after packet of duck sauce onto my house fried rice. I wasn't studyin' his ass, but I was past ready for the food he was failing to bait me with.
“Um... can we talk?” he had the nerve to ask.
“Cameron, seriously?”
“What?”
“You know what.” I stopped, focused on stirring my rice. “...I really don't have anything to say to you.” Then I started to eat, quickly forgetting that I had been punched in the jaw just a little over a day and a half ago. “Aaah,” I winced, grabbing my face. For some reason, he reached up and placed his hand on mine.
“I'm sorry.”
I dropped my arm down into my lap, mainly because I wanted him off of me. “Yeah, I know. You told me,” I said, wondering if he could sense my mild sarcasm. I replaced the food that had fallen from my fork, this time being a lot more careful not to aggravate my injury as I ate.
“You still mad at me?”
Once again, my attempt to satisfy my hunger was cut short. I slowly turned to look at him and slumped my head in disbelief. He couldn't be serious. “Look at me, Cameron. Look at me. Do you see this?” I asked, holding my silk press back to make sure he could get a clear view of my face and neck. “This is you. I didn't do this.”
“But, baby, I apologized for that. I'm sorry.”
He was indeed serious. So much so that I lost my damn appetite. I turned away with a frustrated sigh, allowing my fork to fall from my hand. “Cam... can we please just let it go?”
I did not have the energy for this shit. No matter how hard I tried, I could never make him understand that his ‘sorries’ didn't reverse my pain. They didn't take away my scars. They didn't erase all of the bad memories or make me feel more comfortable in my own home. But, still, they were all I ever got from him. And, quite honestly, I was sick of being lied to. Because, if he were ever really sorry, he wouldn't have to repeat it over and over. Because he wouldn't keep doing this shit to me.
“So, that's it? You don't wanna talk to me?”
“I don't. I don't wanna talk to you about anything right now.”
“...Aight ...ok.” I decided to just leave her alone and let her eat. I went back to my plate as well, but then I realized she wasn't eating with me. “You don't want the food either?”
“I'm not hungry.”
I sighed, looking away, more upset with myself than anything. I had overreacted. She'd said she didn't call me someone else's name, maybe she didn't. I don't know. It’s like, when it came to her, I could turn into something so ruthless. I just loved her so much. And I’d never had to doubt her love for me. After twenty-nine years of life, I hadn't come across anyone like her. She had stuck with me through everything, given me her love, sacrificed herself and her own happiness for me. But I could sense her starting to get tired early on. That's when I knew I had to make moves. We needed to get far away from Atlanta. I had to become all she had. It was the only way she would stay, and heaven knows I didn't wanna lose her. But I wasn't treating her the way a loving man should. At some point, she had become like a possession to me. Maybe it was because she was untouched before me, but I just felt like she was mine. And the thought, alone, of another nigga taking my place was enough to push me over the edge. I had no idea what I would, or wouldn't, do if the shit actually happened and that scared me. I don't even know if it was in me to restrain myself anymore.
One thing I knew for sure, I was a different guy when we first started. It was never my plan to turn into this horrible person. In fact, my goal was the opposite. I wanted to be good to her; the way she was to me. I didn't want to use my hands to cause her body harm. It wasn't my intent to use my voice in a way that would make her feel unsafe or less than the amazing woman she was. But those crazy impulses clouded me, and my ability to control them was something I had long lost.
“Baby, I can't leave here tomorrow with us like this.” She looked over at me, her face void of any expression. “What I gotta do?”
Not a single solution came to mind, and I had grown tired of him trying to force me into a conversation, so I got up and put my food into the microwave. I quietly left the kitchen and made my way upstairs to lie down in the bed I had been banished from and then reinvited to more times than I could count. I fought so hard not to cry, but I did not win. Tears streamed from my eyes as I hugged my pillow, wondering if he knew the depth of the pain he was causing me; if he even cared.
After a few short minutes, I felt his side of the bed sink behind me. I knew he would end up there. He always followed me around like a puppy when he'd done wrong. Which was the opposite of what I wanted him to do. But it always got him the result I guess he was looking for...
And once he was done fucking my brains out, I had to coax myself into not throwing up. I felt disgusting. Still, I had to make it seem as if everything was ok. Because, to him, it was.
There were many things that had changed about Cam over the years, but one that had remained the same was his ability to appease me sexually. I didn't like to admit it, but the way he used his body made me absolutely stupid. And, in knowing this, he often took advantage.
“I love you. So much,” he claimed, out of breath.
I grinned up at him, playing along with his sick game. “I love you.”
Hours later, we were still laid up; facing one another, legs tangled, and wrapped in each other's arms. His eyes hadn't left me once, and neither had his hand left my face. His caresses were endless and so were his kisses. When his lips weren't pressed against me, they were in my ear reciting countless 'I love yous'. The guilt had him laying it on extra thick.
This was usually the time where I'd begin to exact my sort of revenge. For about the next week or so, I could get anything I wanted out of him. I had attained my phone, laptop, and use of one of the cars from time to time this very way. But, with this particular instance, I wasn't even interested in gaining anything. His leaving was enough for me.
“I don't wanna let you go,” he whispered, before kissing my lips for about the hundredth time.
“You better go pack.”
“Shit, I don't even have to leave tomorrow.”
I almost frowned, but, luckily, I caught myself. He did not need to start with that shit. No way was I about to agree with him. “...I think you should,” I somehow mustered up the courage to say. He didn't reply, but the light confusion all over his face was answer enough. “Baby, it's your job. You need to go.”
“I wasn't serious. I just wish I didn't have to leave right now, you know?”
“Yeah.” I put my arm up around his neck, giving him yet another kiss. A grin spread across my face after, but he didn't seem so thrilled anymore. “It’s gonna be ok, baby. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
After another hour had passed, he finally left the bed and started to get his things ready. Needless to say, I was elated and it definitely showed. I didn't even bother trying to hide it. I was nothing but smiles and giggles, and this nigga had the nerve to believe it was because of him. Seriously? How could he possibly think he had anything to do with my newfound joy? Anything!
“It's good to see you smile again,” he said, smiling himself. I didn't say a word. I just smiled wider, which only made us both laugh.
It was almost funny how clueless he was. He would probably turn this entire house over with me if he knew I had found so much comfort in another man. Especially one who was without a doubt more attractive than him. But that was a risk I was willing to take. Michael was worth it.
“You not gon' help me, though?” he asked, fake pouting, trying to persuade me. I usually did help, but tonight I was exhausted. Plus, I didn't wanna help.
“I'm tired, babe.” Just as I finished speaking, a perfectly timed yawn followed. “See?”
“Damn. I probably should've done this first, huh?”
“Maybe,” I giggled, “but it's too late now.”
He laughed to himself and continued to fill his luggage as I rolled over, not worried about him or his clothes. Only one person was on my mind, and my longing would be cured in just a few hours.

I love all of your stories and how you cater to US <3 I was curious to know your opinion on if Michael liked plus sized women?
aww, thank you. that really means a lot. i’m so glad you found me 😊
i absolutely think he did. he just strikes me as an appreciator of all women. a real lover boy. i also heard a story about him from his younger days always asking about a friend’s aunt who was a big girl. not sure how true it is, but i’ma just believe it. lol. and then that interview of him as a kid talking about he liked girls with big legs. 🤣 so, yes, i do think he loved him some us. lol 🤎💕
"Honey bunnyyyy." Brooklynn trotted into the foyer, arms out, finally about to get what she had been waiting for all day. Lucky for her, the feeling was always mutual. Her baby scooped her right up, biting eagerly into his lip.
"Hey, Muff." He groaned, his lean body relaxing into her softness.
She giggled against his lips as her slippered feet were lifted from the floor.
"I missed you this morning."
"I know. I had to leave so early, darlin'. I'm sorry."
"It's ok, baby." She leaned back in his arms and let her eyes roam his beautiful face before cradling it in both hands. "Ugh, you look so good! I know I keep saying it, but this short hair suits you so well, babe, oh my god!" She could barely contain her adoration, toying with the curls at the side of his forehead.
"I can tell you really like it."
"How?" she asked, creasing her brow, feigning confusion.
His eyes flashed wide and they both laughed. Not even caring that she was about to prove his point, she slid her arms back onto his shoulders and crossed them behind his head, going in for another kiss. A slower, more intentional one.
"I was gonna wait until after dinner," she cooed, "but I think I may need my dessert first."
"See? That sweet tooth been bad lately."
She giggled. "That's your fault. You be in here looking how you looking and I'm just a woman."
"I'm not complaining," he confirmed, with a smile, squeezing the plushness of her bare waist. "I just know you about to have me up for three days."
She nodded confidently. "All you can eat, all you can freak, baby."
His high pitched laughs fell against the crook of her neck as he dropped his face there. "You are ridiculous."
"We've missed you soooo much."
"You and who?"
"You know who." She pressed her lips to his again, his hand slowly creeping below her waist.
"Yeah, I miss fat ma, too."
"I know you do. You ain't cutting us off tonight."
"Careful what you ask for, girl," he warned, taking a handful of her ass into his massive palm.
Warmth twisted her middle something awful. She bit her lip, staring up into those big, pretty doe eyes of his. And he was dead serious; he didn't even crack a smile. She had to take a beat. "...I wont even let you make it into this house, Mike. Don't play with me."
He shrugged, amused grin appearing as she unconsciously gripped the front of his shirt in her fists. "Wouldn't be the first time."
"Anyway," she laughed. "Are you home for the day, gorgeous?" She bit her lip, this time in anticipation, bright eyed and hopeful.
He smiled wide at her casual compliment. She always did that, still he'd never gotten used to it. "Yeah--" She instantly squealed with excitement, bouncing in his clutches, and they shared another laugh. "You're so cute."
"I am." He let go and she turned away, practically frolicking back into the house. For the rest of the day and the next three, he was all hers. "Ok, so I already picked a movie and dinner's almost ready. Can you smell it? It's your favoriiiite. I got the ice cream, too. And there's plenty of popcorn. Oh, and I got games!"
"Baby, that all sounds wonderful. But what is this?"
She turned back, ecstatic smile still in place. "What's what, babe?"
"This gift. It has your name on it."
"Oh." She walked back over to him, the memory instantly swapping her smile out for a frown. "...My, um, my ex brought that over here. I'm gonna get rid of it, though."
"Huh?" A tilted head and wrinkled brow accompanied his smile now.
"I don't know." She shook her head, lifting her hands in a shrug before dropping them back down to her sides.
"And you accepted it?"
"Wait. No, I--he insisted. And I just wanted him to leave." She was taken aback. The vibe in the room had shifted just like that.
"Was he in here?" Mike asked, pointing toward the floor.
She hung her head, lips pursed. "Now, why would he be in here?"
"I don't know. Why would his things be in here?"
"Michael, please. Let's not make this more than what it is."
"How did he get past security, Brook? Did you tell them to let him through?"
"Everything went down at the gate, ok? I just went out there because I thought I could keep things from escalating."
"Better than the professionals? They're out there to keep you safe."
"I know, but I didn't want it to get out of hand. In my mind, I could just get him to leave before it came to any of that."
"If somebody shows up and can't conduct themselves properly, that's not your burden to bear."
She parted her lips to speak, but he'd made too much sense for her to counter. Whatever she was about to say evaporated into a deep sigh. "...You're right. I'm sorry. Him popping up just shocked me and I panicked."
He just stood there, hand to his forehead, mouth agape in sheer disbelief. "I'm just trying to understand."
"There's nothing to understand, baby. None of it means anything. I haven't spoken to him, I haven't seen him. And I haven't wanted to. I don't even know where he got the idea that this would be ok."
"But you accepted the gift."
"I didn't, really. I only took it because I thought that would make him go away quicker. He was so adamant and I didn't wanna prolong the situation."
"You should've called me."
"I wasn't gonna bother you for something so insignificant. I handled it."
His eyes widened. "Did you?"
She stood there for a second, speechless, brow furrowed with heavy confusion. "...What are you trying to imply?"
"I'm not trying to imply anything. I just--I'm confused."
"I've told you everything. I always tell you everything, you know that."
"This is a new one for me... I think I'm gonna need a minute."
"Oh my god," she huffed, so frustrated. This was not the way she'd imagined her Valentine's weekend going.
"Imagine how I feel."
"Babe, come on. This is literally a nonissue."
He went in to get a closer look at the offense sitting on his table, wrapped in gold and red bows. "This is some expensive stuff."
There was a handbag and a bracelet inside, both boasting quite a hefty price tag.
"I know. That's why I didn't wanna just throw it out. I was thinking of giving them to Jaafar and Jermajesty. Their girlfriends would probably appreciate it."
He shook his head. "I buy you everything. Nothing you ask of me is ever too much. Why do you need to accept gifts from another man?"
"Baby, it's not even like that. Are you listening to me?"
He didn't speak. He didn't look up. He just continued to stare perplexedly at the gift.
"...Did you read this card?"
"No."
He ripped it up. "You need to get this out of here," he demanded, finally showing his eyes. And she didn't like the way they looked at all. So cold compared to the love they were filled with just a second ago.
"Umm, ok," she frowned, "I just said I was gonna give it to--"
"No, you need to get it out of here now."
"Michael."
"I'm serious, Brooklynn. I don't even know why it's here in the first place."
"Because it means nothing, I keep telling you that. I even forgot about it." She laughed nervously, doing nothing for the building tension.
"Yeah, ok. What if I walked up in here with gifts from--" Her eyes widened as he stopped himself and closed his own, taking a much needed deep breath.
"Oh? From who?"
He shook his head. "Nobody. Just take it out, please."
He started to leave the room, but her interest had been piqued. She was very curious.
"Nah, say what's on your mind, Mike. Finish your statement."
"I'm done with it."
"No, because this shit right here is nothing. What are you saying?" she continued, speaking to his back as it moved farther and farther away from her.
"I'm not saying anything except that I need that stuff to be gone. Right now, Brooklynn."
The house was eerily quiet for the rest of the day. A complete contrast to the fun, lively evening she'd originally planned. She finished dinner and picked at her plate of chicken enchiladas alone. Michael didn't eat at all. She attempted to watch the movie, but without their normal shenanigans, it just made her more sad. There were no belly laughs or playful nudges, no popcorn, no ice cream. Nothing that made it the usual event. Later that night, he didn't come to bed. She missed his warmth terribly; the sweet kiss he would give her when he wished her sweet dreams, the declaration of love that always accompanied his 'goodnights'. Unsurprisingly, she woke up without his smile and his soft 'good morning', quickly reminded of the previous day's woeful happenings. She'd tucked the comforter around her entire body just to feel something, but now it only made her painfully aware that her husband of three years wasn't next to her. Not because he wasn't home, not because he was somewhere working, but because he had taken up residence in another bedroom. She didn't even know which one. The somber mood made the air hard to breathe. Her loneliness was palpable, weighing down on her so heavily she felt like she couldn't move.
She had to make herself get up, wiping a stray tear from her face as she went toward the bathroom to carry out her morning routine. In need of a strongly caffeinated pick-me-up, she took a languid walk down to the kitchen. Her feet stopped her in the doorway, breath hitching when she saw him standing there. Anxiety sparked in her chest and settled in the pit of her stomach. She stared longingly at his back as he made his cup of tea next to the unpopped popcorn still on the counter from the failure of a day before. She was almost afraid to move. She didn't know what to say. 'Good morning' just didn't seem to fit. So, she just stood there waiting. Waiting for him to turn around and say something first.
When he finished, he used the exit nearest him. But she knew he'd seen her. And it pissed her off. "Good morning to you, too. Happy Valentine's Day!"
"Morning," he replied, voice gruff, stride unbroken, not even looking.
She scoffed. "You're being so ridiculous."
That was the last thing he said to her for a long while. He didn't utter a single word for the remainder of the day. The next day, she stayed to herself, unprepared for another awkward encounter with someone she'd never felt uneasy with. She barely left her room and, whenever she did, lucky for her, he was nowhere in sight. She cried more than she wanted to, locked away in her forced solitude, but she couldn't deny how much she missed him being around in a normal capacity. He'd never shut her out so coldly. She didn't know what to do with this version of him. When they saw each other again, she stood frozen a second time, her eyes wordlessly pleading for him to say something to her. Anything. Even if it were something unfavorable. But he wouldn't even look at her. It would've been a lot different if he were away at work, but he was just there, in the house, torturing her with devastating silence.
After that, she gave up. No matter how much it hurt, she would have to let him come to her when he was ready, because she knew he wouldn't move a minute sooner.
This new routine went on for a week. She was so unsettled. She just couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling that plagued every room in the house. She barely slept, her meals became smaller and less frequent, her bonnet and pajamas were an all day occurrence, and nothing felt interesting enough to hold her attention. She was suffocating and he didn't seem to care at all. He'd gone back to work, but, when he was there, she still felt like she was alone. On several occasions, they'd walked past each other like roommates.
After seven whole days, she had lost all steam. Waiting for him to come around was taking a horrible toll on her. She felt like a shell of a woman, just bogged down, completely drained. The kind of exhaustion that had made its home in her body was unlike anything she'd ever experienced. True misery. Against her better judgment, she was gonna have to be the one to speak up first.
Late one evening--after building up the nerve to act all day--she found him in the living room, book in hand.
"...Babe, I miss you," she quietly admitted, tapping into strength reserves she didn't even know she had. "I got rid of the stuff."
His rigid silence was killing her. She stood before him, at his mercy, in the most vulnerable state and he was unfazed. All of the pain she had been stifling was about to come to a head and she knew she wouldn't be able to stop it. "...Can you just talk to me?" He didn't budge. He even turned a page and continued his reading. She sighed heavily, an unyielding ache deep in her chest. "So, like, how long...?"
She couldn't even finish. Every defense she'd been using to stay afloat shattered in an instant. Tears came crashing down her face. "...Please," she begged, just above a whisper.
He slammed the book shut, startling her. The breeze from him storming past chilled her to the bone. Her body shivered, then she turned to watch him disappear up the stairs. She sobbed loudly into her hands, needing to be in his arms more than she ever had. But the bed had become her comfort these days; she just wanted to lie down.
She took a slow walk back up to their room, her feet feeling more burdened with each step. When she finally made it, she was surprised to see him coming out of his closet buttoning a pair of jeans. Naturally, watching him prepare to leave during the night gave her a little jolt of energy.
"Where are you going?"
"Nowhere."
He walked right past her again and she followed, wiping away her tears.
"Clearly you are. Just tell me."
"Brook, I just need some air, ok? I'll be back."
"You've had so much air. Seven days worth. Your lungs should be tired, actually."
"I need some outside air."
"It's late."
"I'm aware."
"Babe, please. Just talk to me. We already missed Valentine's Day."
"Yeah, but you got your gift in there."
"Michael. Really?" In the middle of a whirlwind of emotion, she had a miraculous moment of clarity. This was about way more than just accepting a gift. "Hold on. Wait, wait. Can we just slow down for a second?" She massaged her temples, trying her best to level herself out. "What do you think is going on? 'Cause you cannot think I want this man. That can't be what this is."
"I don't know what to think right now."
Her face contorted in heavy shock. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Are you serious?"
"Why would I play about something like this?"
"Michael, you have to be joking. You've never had to question my loyalty. Or my character."
He kept walking without saying another word. They hit the stairs and his long legs initiated a pace that she was unable to match as she trailed him.
"Can you please stop?! I'm trying to talk to you!"
Much to her dismay, he seemed to speed up.
"Look, I know I messed up, but it does not warrant this type of treatment. I'm your wife," she pled, her voice breaking on the last syllable.
He reached for the doorknob and, much quicker than she'd liked, he was halfway out the door.
"Please, don't leave me."
In a last ditch effort, she reached for him but it was too late.
"Michael!"
When that door slammed, something in her broke. She flinched, her body buckling under the weight of unprecedented uncertainty. She wanted to follow him, but her feet wouldn't let her do it. She was paralyzed with a dizzying concoction of fear, confusion, anger, sadness. It felt like the room was spinning. The air was too thick to breathe as her chest rose and fell erratically. Everything was happening so fast. Panic began to set in, her extremities shaking, her head pounding, fresh tears falling. She heard his car pull off and the sound faded away before she could even fully register it.
Sasha did a double take as she turned and caught a glimpse of Jermajesty filling her doorway. She sighed at the sight of his goofy, grinning mug. Even in knowing she’d eventually have to deal with his presence, it hadn’t done a thing for her preparedness. Nor her patience.
“What's up, girl? Long time no see.”
“How long you been standing there, weirdo?”
“You rude as hell, you know that?” he asked, bopping into the guest room she had been occupying since the day before.
“I’m rude, but you standing there watching me like a creep.”
“Relax. I just walked up here.”
She rolled her eyes. Two seconds in and she was already aggravated. It didn’t take long whenever Jermajesty was involved. “I can’t even come see my sister without you all in my way.”
“I’m not in your way.” He smiled just enough for the small gap in his teeth to peek through.
“You’re literally in front of me.”
“You free to go around,” he said, with a boldness only he could, taking in all of her soft, plush frame. His lustful gaze landed on her eyes and she had to look away for a second.
“And you Mack’s best friend. So, why you in here with me? Go back down there with her.”
“You know when I hear you on my side of town, I gotta come speak. I can’t say ‘Hey’?”
“No,” she spat, folding her arms across her chest.
He chuckled. “Mack told me you graduated, too. Congratulations.”
“Mhm. Thank you.”
“You was always smart as shit, even when we was kids. You got your master’s now, huh?”
“Yeah, I do. Did you want something?”
“Why you so mean, girl?”
“I’m matching your energy.”
He wrinkled his brow, but his grin stayed in place. “Mmmm, not quite. But you know I can help you out with them… big feelings you having right now.”
“See, that's why I don't like your ass right there.”
“Nah, I think you like me for real. The same way I like you.”
She dropped her arms back down to her sides, ready to spit fire, but something wouldn't let her do it. None of the flames could make it past her thoughts. She swallowed the lump in her throat as her once narrowed eyes began to flutter.
“…You good?”
She darted away from the pearly white smirk on his face and cleared her throat as subtly as she could. “Can you move?”
“You really want me to do that?” he asked, having heard the intensity in her voice wane considerably. Her face had done the same.
“I really do.”
“You so pretty when you lie.”
She rolled her eyes, groaning like she didn't have another nerve left. Because she didn't. “How many times and in how many different ways do I have to tell you I don’t want you, Jermajesty? You know I’m with somebody. And, even if I wasn’t, I would never be down this bad.” She looked him from head to toe, driving home her disgust.
“She fuckin’ you right?” Despite her lashing, his cool demeanor—and his audacity—had gone unaffected.
“Excuse me?! Watch your mouth and mind your business!”
He peered down at her frown and smiled. “My fault.”
“But, since you asked, she absolutely is.”
With a slow nod, he tucked his bottom lip into his mouth. “Mmm.”
“Yeah. So, again, can you back up?”
“I could, yeah… but I know better.”
Watching her unravel little by little had his smile on full display. He loved the tough act she always tried to put on with him. Plus when he’d said she was so pretty, he’d meant it.
She swallowed another lump. His smile was pure perfection, she had to admit. She’d always thought his gap was so cute. And those lips. Mm! Laser focused on trying to contain the butterflies he always eventually gave her, she didn't even realize that she’d started to move away as he so stubbornly followed.
“What’s your problem?”
“I don’t have—”
“No, you do. For one, you can’t follow simple instructions. And why would you ask me something like that?”
He shrugged a shoulder, so nonchalant about it. “I don’t like to wonder. And I would rather get my info straight from the source.”
“Yeah, ok. I know what it is.”
“What is it then?” he asked, grinning, humoring her.
“These girls around here got you so full of yourself. You think you can just say whatever to anybody, get whatever you want.”
“You think so?”
Her back made contact with the wall and it genuinely startled her. He fixed himself in front of her, both hands in the pockets of his black joggers. Joggers that were sitting perfectly low on his waist, by the way.
“Yeah. I got you all figured out.”
“You got me figured out?” Since he was much closer to her than before, he spoke in a lower, more calculated tone.
“Got you all figured out.”
“Mm.”
“But that’s just what you think,” she continued, prompting him to move a little closer just to see if she would stop him. She didn’t.
“Mhm.”
“‘Cause, see, I’m not the one.”
“Mm.”
He took another small step and, still, there was no protest.
“…Or the two.”
“You ain’t nothing to play with.”
“I’m not.” She spoke as softly as him now. Something else she’d been too preoccupied to notice. Their bodies were barely touching and her chest rose and fell while she stared up into his deep brown eyes.
Knowing he had full rein, he licked his lips and took up the last fleck of space left between them, pinning his hand to the wall next to her head. “Mhm. You done?”
“…I might have something else to say.” She knew damn well she didn't. It was so hard for her to accept defeat.
“Aight. But, before you continue, I just wanna know one thing… what gave you the idea that I was playin’?”
His nose came down beside hers and she clenched her teeth and closed her eyes. All she could see were flashbacks of his rope chain dangling above her face. “…I can’t stand yo’ ass,” she said, lying quietly against his lips.
He smiled. “Yeah. You remember what we did that one time?”
“That was a moment of weakness. I’ve been trying to forget.”
“I still think about that shit, too.” He gently touched her inner thigh and a hushed gasp shook her lungs. “Remember when I…?” Her skirt bunched on his wrist as he slid his hand toward the spot. “You said it felt so good. Remember?” Unfit to answer, she dug her fingertips into the wall behind her, goosebumps dotting her skin. “Hm?”
“…You got a girlfriend,” she tried to remind him, but spread her legs a bit more for him anyway.
“Just say the word and I don’t.”
“Shit, I got a girlfr—”
“And you know I don’t give a fuck.”
She tilted her head back and her bottom lip slipped between his. He nipped at it before she took it away.
“You are such an asshole.”
“Mhm.” He brought his hand down from the wall and wrapped it around her neck, kissing her slowly and savoring the taste of her lips, how soft they felt against his own. Before she could stop them, her arms were draping themselves onto his shoulders. The rest of her body followed, turning to putty under his weight. He squeezed the thickest part of her thigh and she led her hands down to his chest, satisfying her need for a feel. Jermajesty was a slim dude compared to her, but he was strong. He carried Sasha’s two hundred and sixty some-odd pounds well and without issue, the same as she.
“This doesn’t leave this room, Jermajesty.”
“You ever known me to run my mouth?” His kisses traveled down to her neck and she stopped breathing. He lightly brushed his fingertips over the seat of her panties then across her thigh and to her hip. He reached around and grabbed her ass, carefully pulling her toward him. “…So, should I close the door?”
The rumble of his whisper shattered what was left of her flimsy defenses. She sighed, half-hating herself for what she was about to let him do. Again.
“Lock it, too.”
