"You’ll give me a…I’m not a dog!" Shoutmon glared at the little girl, but combined with his ever-present pout, it wasn’t intimidating at all. He could feel Taiki watching him and he really didn’t want her to scream so he sighed and picked the book that wasn’t bright pink with ponies. "I’ll colour this one." 

He wondered how much stuff she had on her but decided not to question it. Kids were weird.

“Okay!” Akari grinned and flipped her book open to a picture of Rainbow Dash. “They gotta be cool! They can hang up in here! My pictures never get hung up in the play room. Takato’s are always better—but this is Taiki so he’ll love it!”

She grinned and looked for a perfect shade of blue before she started to color in Rainbow Dash. She was really excited—and really bad at coloring—until she looked over at Shoutmon’s picture when she went to grab a red crayon.

“No! That’s the Blue Dino Ranger, not the Green Dino Ranger! He’s the wrong color! There’s no Green Dino Ranger!”

Shoutmon gasped for breath because he forgot how strong this kid was. It wasn’t nearly as bad as when she was older but no child her size had the right to be able to squeeze this tightly.

He took a deep breath when she let go. “You want me to…colour?” He was the Digimon King! He didn’t sit on the floor and colour!

"She’s right," Taiki said to his partner, much too amused to try and help him. "You can’t let her scream."

"But I-she-ugh fine." He sat on the floor and pouted. "What are we colouring?"

Akari grinned and drug her backpack over, producing two coloring books—My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Power Rangers. She then pulled out a box of crayons. The Ultimate Crayon collection from Crayola. That kid carried around 152 different crayons on top of other crap.

“Pick one! We’ll color them pretty and Taiki can hang them up in here so it’s not so boring.” Akari obviously thought his office was lame. “And if you’re good I’ll give you a treat!”

Taiki shook his head with amusement. “Yes I know.” He took out his Xros Loader. “Reload, Shoutmon.”

In a flash of light, his partner appeared before them. Shoutmon looked around to try and see what the problem was, when his blue eyes landed on the small girl. He took a step back. “You. What are you doing here?”

"You’re going to play with her," Taiki said, nudging him forward. "Have fun."

"Wait, what?"

“Shout, Shout, Shout!” Akari cried, bounding forward and hugging the Digimon as tight as she could…which was far tighter than a normal child. “Shout! I missed you!” She let go and ran to grab her backpack.

“Shout, color with me! I’m a runway so you have to or I’ll scream and Taiki’s grandpa will come back.” She looked entirely serious with a mix of pouting.

"Another Akari? What are you talking about?"

Thinking quickly, Taiki muttered, “Akari, we’re going to play hide and seek, hurry hide and I’ll come back and bring Shoutmon.” He walked over to his grandfather, pushing him out the door and closing it behind him. “She was just a very, very realistic…hologram created by the digivices. You put in a picture and it can make the subject of it almost like-life. I had a picture of Akari when she was five. I haven’t been able to figure out how that technology works yet though.” Or ever, since he made it up off the top of his head. “It’s pretty buggy and only works sometimes.”

"Oh, that’s interesting. Well, keep working on that." The man left, sounding highly impressed.

Taiki sighed and walked back into the room, locking the door behind him this time. “Akari, where’d you go?”

“I’m here!” she cried, jumping out from underneath his desk. “Shout! Shout Shout Shout!”

She jumped up and down and then hugged his leg, giving him the puppy dog eyes she often used. “Please? Pleaaaase? Shout! You promised!”

Ah— Dorulumon. That was his name. She nodded, putting the name to face for the next time they met.

Watching the scene between partner and Digimon, Masaru giggled a little. She hoped Dorulumon wasn’t too stern with his friend.

"Is Cutemon still in the tree? I can held get it down."

“No, he’s—” Dorulumon looked back at Akari, realizing the pink Digimon wasn’t there. “Agh—Cutemon!! First him, then you, then him again? You’ll both be the death of me!”

He hung his head, scratching at his muzzle. “I’ll find him. He’s smaller but he’s gotta be somewhere. Both of them are going down for naps when we get back to the daycare…”

A beep of Masaru’s Digivice ic in her pocket of her skirt got her attention. Looking down the street, she saw the Digimon they were searching for. Grinning, she scooped the girl up, and dashed down the sidewalk and across the road.

"Hey, are you Dorululu?" Setting the red head down on her feet, she brushed off her skirt, waiting for the Digimon to reply.

He turned his head and saw a tall woman, probably a teen, and the very person he’d been searching high and low for—Akari.

“Dorulumon,” he corrected before he stared sternly down at Akari. “I told you to stay put while I got Cutemon from the tree.”

“But I was bored.”

“Akari,” he growled, picking her up by the back of her shirt with his teeth and placing her on his back. “You’re grounded.”

Finally finding a blanket in a storage closet (he wasn’t going to question that), Taiki made his way back to his office and came to a horrified stop when he realized his grandfather was talking to Akari.

"I’m Taiki’s grandfather."

When he saw Taiki, his expression became harsh. “Four? Taiki, you and Akari would have only been sixteen and fifteen! Why didn’t you tell us you had a daughter?”

Taiki almost choked on the very air he was breathing. “No! No, no, no. She’s not my daughter. Or Akari’s! She IS Akari. Or another one.”

“I didn’t know Taiki had a grandpa,” she said thoughtfully, then waved at Taiki. “Big Taiki, is he really your grandpa? How come my Taiki doesn’t know him?”

Her picture fell to the ground as she waved her hands around in excitement, jumping down from the chair. The picture seemed to be some sort of red dinosaur…probably Shoutmon.

“Taikiiii! Can Shout come and play?”

So, the thing she was playing with was a Digimon! If it was as tall as Masaru, it had to be. “Alright, let’s go find him!!”

“Yay!”

Sure enough, after about a block, a large white-and-orange wolf-like creature was walking down the opposite side of the street, drills sticking out of him. He was sniffing the ground intently.

Taiki was having a bit of a hard time finding something to dry of little Akari (outside of just sticking her under one of the hand dryers), still searching and not noticing his grandfather heading towards his office.

The aging man walked inside and came to an abrupt stop, staring at the small child curiously. “Who do we have here?” To him, she looked just like Akari Hinomoto, and that instantly made him suspicious.

Finishing up a pretty muddy picture (she’d added markers to the highlighter picture) and looking up from her backpack, Akari blinked. Who was this? Well, she’d find out.

“I’m Akaii!” she grinned. “I’m 4! Who are you?”

"You ran away?" This was goign to turn out very badly, he just knew it was. This was exactly why digimon shouldn’t babysit little kids. 

"Hold on, I’ll get you something to dry off with." Taiki had to pick her up so that he himself could get up and put her back on the chair, moving any staplers, scissors or in general sharp or important things. Kids were not to be trusted with important papers and things that could cut them. "I’ll be just a minute." What was he supposed to do with a toddler?

“Yep!”

Children also got bored very easily, especially Akari. She always had to be doing something so it was about twenty seconds before she stood up on the chair and looked around Taiki’s desk. Spotting some highlighters, she grinned and grabbed the pink one and grabbed a paper (thankfully blank) and began to color.

“Yay! Taiki gets a picture!”

Dorululu….that sounded like a strange name for any animal if it was one…But then the thought came to mind. What if— the girl had a Digimon like she did?

Popping up, she eyed the smaller girl, and spoke. “Can I help you find him?”

 “Yeah! Just look for a really really big doggy. He’s as tall as you and had orange and white fur!” She clapped happily, skipping along without a care.”

Taiki was busy, but it actually wasn’t that bad for once. He could actually work without feeling like he was in a rush, even if he was waiting on some overdue contracts. 

He nodded his head at the employee to leave once he had the contracts, not wanting to deal with anyone else even if he was in a good mood. Needless to say, he was very startled when a little red-haired girl came up and sat on his lap.

Taiki blinked at her, recognizing who she was because she visited before but it was still shocking. “Akari? What are you doing here?”

“I’m a runway!” she said proudly. She probably meant ‘runaway.’ “I had Ichi-chan’s big Digimon look up where you worked and ran away when everybody went for naps!”

She wasn’t dressed like a runaway. She had no jacket, despite that she was partially wet from the rain, and she was still carrying around that dumb Power Rangers backpack she loved so much.

She had an awful large soft spot for kids, and the little girl before her was just adorable!! Smiling more, she bent down, to get more on the younger’s level.

"What a cute name. What are you doing here?"

"I'm looking for Dorululu!" she exclaimed proudly. "We're playing hide and seek but he doesn't know it."

For such a large and busy building, the security sure sucked. She went unnoticed the entire time, even when she slipped into the elevator. She heard one of the adults say something about delivering papers to 'Kudou-san' and she knew who that was so she followed and snuck into the office when the employee delivered the papers. Waiting until he was gone, she came out and tip toed up to Taiki...and attempted to climb in his lap.

"Hey there sweetie! What’s your name? I’m Masaru."

"I'm Akaii!"

"Akari can I borrow one of your band-aids?"

"You got a boo-boo again?"

"How'd you get that boo-boo, Wormmymon?" She was currently smoothing a glittery pink band-aid on Wormmon, having SOMEHOW gotten away from Dorulumon and into Ken's apartment.

Wormmon looked mildly alarmed, blinking up at the little girl as she continued patting his head.

Ken just groaned, not moving from his faceplant on the couch. “Get the fuck out of my apartment,” he said, voice muffled by the pillow.

He had to smirk at that—vegetable pizza was Wormmon’s favorite, after all. “Don’t worry, I’ll be sure he gets all the veggies he needs. You should go find Dorululu now.”

Wormmon, nodded, antennas upright again. “Thank you, I promise I’ll have my veggies. I’m sure your friend’s worried about where you’ve gone, though.”

"Dorululu? Oh yeah! I forgot!" Akari looked around. "Whoopsie. I'll go find Dorululu. Eat lots of veggies, Wormmymon. Grow up into a Stingymon and protect grumpy!"
