Once again thinking about the role memory plays in Shintaro’s character. And about how almost all the snakes the Mekakushi-Dan get tie into their arcs and often grant their wishes in a ‘be careful what you wish for’ kind of way (especially highlighted with Kido, Kano, Seto, and Momo).

Because yeah, Shintaro’s power is pretty different and has sort of been with him the whole time, but when it comes to memory he’s 100% in the same boat. Like he has a nearly perfect memory, which not only contributes to his cynicism and the way he thinks that everything is easy and boring in Toumei Answer, but it also seems like he has a major fear of forgetting things.

In Toumei Answer he talks about how he doesn’t want to forget anything about Ayano, in Lost Time Memory he brings up how he wants to keep reliving his memories of her so that he won’t ever forget them. But it really comes off like he’s afraid that he might start forgetting things. So while he got Retaining Eyes in a pretty unusual way compared to the others, I feel like you can still argue his ‘wish’ would be to hold onto those memories.
