“Yeah, ‘would’ve been.”
He opened his leather wallet, and sure enough, all it’s contents are intact albeit damp: a couple of dollar bills, his credit cards, torn up photographs, all there. Not that he expected her to steal something, but this was Gotham, after all. Couldn’t be too careful. “’Would’ve had to go hungry today,” he said, tucking his wallet back in it’s original spot in his pocket. “Uh, can I buy you lunch or somethin’ to make up for it?”
“I have an unholy amount of student loans, so if your serious I will totally accept free food. I’m not even picky, s’long as you don’t suggest top ramen. I bleed top ramen now.”
Practicality won out over modesty in the end. And hell, maybe she’d make a new friend. it’s not like she’d had the time while she’d been at school, and then interning.
