Read to me: Jason Dean imagine
Jd was laying on the foot of your bed, his cheek resting on his fist as his elbow propped him up. His eyes were focused on you as you flipped through Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson. You peeked up over the edge of your book and met Jd’s gaze with your own. “What? Why’re you staring?”
He broke eye contact and looked down at the plain sheets on your bed. “You just look good when you’re reading.” He shrugged.
You started to blush slightly. You and Jd had been casually dating for a while, but he had never been a real romantic guy, so you didn’t get many random compliments like that. You tilted your head a little. “What do you mean?”
He sat up straight on the end of your bed. “I mean you get focused when you read. Your eyes scan the page and your whole body seems to lean into it, like you’re being engulfed in the story so much that you’re physically becoming a part of it.” He pushed himself further onto the bed, nudging your legs apart a bit so he could get right up close to you, keeping his hands gently on your legs so he stayed near as he smirked at you. “So, you look good when you’re reading.”
Your face was now flushed a much darker shade of red and you folded the corner of the page you ended on before you hugged the book to your chest. “And you’ve seen me read enough times to pick up on that, how?”
Jd chuckled and let his hands start to drift gently up and down your legs, in a sweet, soft way. “Baby, you have your nose in a new book every two to three days, I’ve seen you reading in class, during lunch, and in the middle of our dates. Such as right now.”
“I can stop reading during our dates if you want that…” your tone of voice was quiet and disappointed.
“On the contrary,” he bent closer, his lips brushing your cheek in a soft kiss. “I’d simply prefer if you’d read to me instead of to yourself.”
You looked at him with a quizzical expression. “I-I don’t know if the books I read are exactly storytime material. I mean, this book is about being on drugs in Las Vegas with your attorney.” You gestured to Fear and Loathing.
Jd rolled his eyes and just turned around and promptly laid down so his head was resting on your tummy and his body was laying on the bed between your legs. “I’ve never been a conventional person. Now read this weird book to me. I hardly ask anything of you, but I’m asking for this.”
You sighed and hesitantly picked your book again, finding your page and opening it up. You set the hand holding the book on your knee so that you could actually see what you were reading and looked down at him. “You’re not usually this affectionate…” You said softly.
He looked up at you from his spot against your stomach. “I know, I thought maybe you’d appreciate it. Despite what you may think I do occasionally try to please the people I love. Especially when they do cute things like read all the time.”
You furrowed your brows a bit. “You love me..?” He hadn’t said it up until now, and you had simply assumed that you wouldn’t be able to hold Jason Dean of all people in a stable relationship.
He grasped your chin and sighed, pulling you down and kissing you just once. “Yes, of course I do. Now are you going to read to me or not?” His lips curved to the left in that sly little smirk of his you knew all too well.
You couldn’t stop the smile that broke out on your face after he kissed you and confirmed that he meant the comment he previously made. “Yeah I’m going to…”
You carefully moved your head up to see the book and started reading again, picking up at the start of chapter six. “Saturday midnight… Memories of this night are extremely hazy. All I have, for guide-pegs, is a pocketful of keno cards and cocktail napkins, all covered with scribbled notes…”
You made it all the way up to part two of the book, a hand even slipping into Jd’s thick hair to play with it as you read. However when you reached the second part, you noticed he had started falling asleep in your lap, his eyes drifting closed and his head falling to the side slightly.
You had always known Jd as the rough edged outsider he made himself out to be, but in this moment he was nothing more than a overtired high school kid dozing off in his partner’s arms. You saw now he was fully asleep so you set the book down and continued gently ruffling his hair as your now free hand moved to rest on his upper chest. You leaned back against the headboard, a small peaceful smile on your lips. You laid quietly with Jd in your grasp for the rest of the night, soaking up one of the few peaceful moments you got together.
