Pro-homeless posters seen around Seattle. The poster message and it’s design is a direct response to an anti-homeless poster campaign in Seattle a week earlier that used the headline: “SEE A TENT? REPORT IT”
an explanation is not owed
i want to show this to everyone i know
This is soooo important
Although, I have one criticism. It’s this:
He had no business asking her why. When she said stop, his next question should have been the one in the last panel. Or, perhaps, to make sure that she wasn’t uncomfortable/in pain/in need of something particular.
But, that’s okay. The purpose of this comic was demonstrating this precise point. Sometimes, behavior in demonstrative scenarios has to be less than perfect in order to serve the purpose it needs to serve.
“No” and “stop” are complete sentences.
As I’ve said before and explain to my kid… The second she(they) say “can we stop”…. You should be up and reassessing the situation, sex is not worth the truma, pain, or financial ruin you’ll go through… Because she(they) said “stop”. Consent is major to me… Right up there with Consent and willingness to play along(consent)… Wanna get lucky let her(them) lead the ship… The wait will be worth it.
Ok….so….yes, no means no and stop means stop.
However, it’s not a terrible thing to ask why. Assuming people give half a shit about each other, they often give half a shit about what the other says/thinks/does/feels.
So no, asking why isn’t a terrible thing. Pressing would be the terrible thing. Asking why simply shows that person 1 in the above gives at least half a shit about person 2. Not pressing and making a quick alternative suggestion shows person 1 also respects person two.
☝🏻 Fuck yes
Hey, so they’re making a Netflix Harry Potter.
With that in mind, we’re all gonna remember that JKR is a terf who has literally been cited by legislators engaged in legislation that actively harms trans people, and we’re not gonna give her any more money.
That means not streaming the new show on Netflix, because regardless of how much influence she has on the production, she gets paid for it.
We’re gonna make the show flop. We’re gonna show Warner Brothers that we don’t forget (of course, how would we forget, it isn’t as if she’s stopped), and that their business association with terfs is no longer profitable.
It is NOT like Lovecraft, because Lovecraft is very dead and his works are in the public domain. By consuming Lovecraft media, you are not giving any money to old Howard.
Only correction here, it’s gonna be on HBO Max, not Netflix, different streaming sites.
She’s still a major bitch with direct influence on the decision to strip trans kids in the UK of puberty blockers and I for one hope she builds a Gender Neutral Bathroom soon.
🥴 please don’t let me down HP fans. Flop flop flop.
I love Gordon Ramsay so much.
He comes from a very poor family. His father was an alcoholic who beat him and his mother (he once poured hot tea over her and put her in hospital several times), his brother is a drug addict, he literally built an empire out of nothing.
He credits his mother as his biggest inspiration and often has her cooking in his shows.
When he left his first restaurant he pulled a successful Jerry Maguire - the entire kitchen staff went with him. That tells you what he’s like to work with.
He was one of the first to give a restaurant to a female chef.
He went to prison (Gordon Behind Bars) and taught inmates to bake and they opened a bakery (Bad Boys Bakery) that is still running. He hired one of them when he got out.
He did documentaries about the cruelty of shark hunting and cocaine. (when he discovered cocaine was used by his staff he didn’t fire anyone but made sure they are offered treatment)
His kids are a treasure.
He is always ALWAYS kind to servers.
When one of his partners (Marcus Wareing) wanted to leave they got into a fight and settled it in court, they no longer speak to each other but this is what Marcus said about him after the fight:
I feel bad that the first association to him for a lot of people is this shouty TV chef when he’s truly a wonderful person.
Oh and then there’s this:
this entire episode
never forget that the reason he’s “shouty and angry” on his tv show is that he’s yelling at people who ignore the rules of courtesy and food safety and basically feed their customers poison, something which would enrage any good person
people keep forgetting he’s screaming his head off at people for mistakes THAT CAN KILL SOMEONE
Here's the thing about shows like South Park and Family Guy that make their money off of being edgy and offensive. They fundamentally reduce their viewers' capacity for empathy. If I found a joke funny, and you found it offensive, you're just too sensitive. This is directly related to the ride of the alt right and the election of trump. In this essay I will
OP WHERE'S THE FUCKING ESSAY
So instead of writing the essay this is exactly what I'm talking about. This shit reduces your capacity for empathy. If you can't understand why people are hurt by a simple joke, nay, think that's the whole point... How the hell are you supposed to feel for someone when they come to you complaining of ACTUAL oppression? It's the foot in the door phenomenon. A little oppression isn't too bad, cuz it's funny, right? It hardens your heart against others
Somebody actually wrote this essay already. It's a Twitter thread about how the alt right recruits teenage boys by getting them to post slightly offensive memes... And then when they get called out and don't understand why the alt right channels their anger at feminists and women and people of color and liberals. According to this thread, boys are being "set up"
Read the whole thread at the link above this is just a snip
"offensive" shows like Family Guy are a precursor to the alt right and you can't change my mind
Y'all this shit so basic even Spongebob one it. It's not about being too sensitive. It's normalizing abuse through comedy that's a foot in the door to greater oppression.
this put into words what makes me so uncomfortable about these shows
Martin Luther King speaking to striking workers in Memphis
Fun fact, this may actually account for many of the “imaginings” we have of extinct animals.
I had a molecular biology professor who referred it to “vacuum packing” where many extinct animals are rendered slimmer or muscular than they may have been, since things like body fat and fur are not preserved during fossilization. So our view of animals like dinosaurs may be entirely inaccurate.
There’s actually a book, All Yesterdays, in which the artist, CM Koseman, draws modern animals as we might have interpreted them to look if we found them extinct the same way do dinosaurs.
Fun examples include:
The manatee
An elephant
Swans
And literally the picture of the hippo
Another funny thing to add to this…because of how fossils are formed, it’s possible we don’t know what type of dinosaurs were different species or the same species. If we compare the skeletons to modern animals, snake skeletons often look pretty much the same so if all snakes were extinct we may believe they were all one species of animal instead of hundreds. Meanwhile, all dog breeds are considered the same species Canis lupus familiaris (technically domestic dogs are a subspecies of Canus lupus, the Grey Wolf, but you get what I mean) despite their skeletons being drastically different from each other (compare a pug skull to a great dane and to a poodle…they’ll look different).
So, if all snakes were mistaken for being only a small handful of species and modern dogs could be mistaken for a BUNCH of unique different species…think about how that knowledge can reflect onto our current understanding of extinct animals.
It goes deeper than that. A colleague of mine who’s a paleontologist was commenting on how for some extant species of birds, we can only tell species apart through behavior traits like song. You could have two perfectly preserved dead specimens of bird, but you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart because you need to hear their songs to tell their species apart. She said that she is sometimes kept awake by thoughts of the implications of this for species classifications in paleontology, and whether we collapse huge swaths of species in the fossil record into just one species because we can’t tell them apart just with the information we havd
This reminds me of how recently we found out that Nanotyrannus isn’t actually its own species, but just…a juvenile Tyrannosaurus

TL;DR on the latest round of Wikileaks:
Literally nothing you do is safe from the CIA. There are numerous full-on spyware suites developed by them, mostly for iOS and Windows, but also targeting Android, Linux, OS X, and Solaris. Apps thought to be secure (Telegram with encryption enabled, WhatsApp, Signal) were compromised as well, as were a host of other devices (ie smart TVs).
THIS DOES NOT PERTAIN ONLY TO AMERICANS.
If you live in a Shengen area country, your country likely hosts several CIA backed cyberwar experts. They came in via the US consulate in Frankfurt. If you don’t, you likely do as well, but I can’t find anything without sifting through the files myself.
“I have nothing to hide, why does this matter?”: Because there are now multiple thousand “zero hour”- ie “developers get zero hours to fix”- vulnerabilities floating around that no one had any idea existed. The vulnerabilities themselves weren’t leaked, but it’s the fact that someone knew about these and didn’t say.
I hate to make this kinda clickbait-y thing, but this is honest to God one of the most important leaks in history. Our response to this is pretty much going to be life or death for privacy in the developed world. Be loud about this, be annoying about this, and do not shut up about this. Please reblog this and other posts relating to it.
Not just any someone, this is one of the U.S. federal government’s foremost intelligence agencies, the CIA, which even mainstream media has reported operates on a black (off the record) budget, infamous for handing over “full” reports that are almost entirely redacted.
It’s a wonder that anyone out there could believe they are not the subject of surveillance—everyone has something to hide.

And this leak shows that the CIA has all of these technologies and proliferates them to other entities who want this information all the time. You need your privacy to protect yourself and your information. If you have nothing to hide, you have plenty to hide:
The line “if you’ve got nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about” is used all too often in defending surveillance overreach. It’s been debunked countless times in the past, but with the line being trotted out frequently in response to the NSA revelations, it’s time for yet another debunking, and there are two good ones that were recently published. First up, we’ve got Moxie Marlinspike at Wired, who points out that, you’re wrong if you think you’ve got nothing to hide, because our criminal laws are so crazy, that anyone sifting through your data would likely be able to pin quite a few crimes on you if they just wanted to.
Julian Sanchez points out:
Some of the potentially sensitive facts those records expose becomes obvious after giving it some thought: Who has called a substance abuse counselor, a suicide hotline, a divorce lawyer or an abortion provider? What websites do you read daily? What porn turns you on? What religious and political groups are you a member of? Some are less obvious. Because your cellphone’s “routing information” typically includes information about the nearest cell tower, those records are also a kind of virtual map showing where you spend your time — and, when aggregated with others, who you like to spend it with.
We simply cannot possibly know when something is going to incriminate us and the State is not above scapegoating individuals or coercing them into submission. James Duane, a professor at Regent Law School and former defense attorney, notes:
Estimates of the current size of the body of federal criminal law vary. It has been reported that the Congressional Research Service cannot even count the current number of federal crimes. These laws are scattered in over 50 titles of the United States Code, encompassing roughly 27,000 pages. Worse yet, the statutory code sections often incorporate, by reference, the provisions and sanctions of administrative regulations promulgated by various regulatory agencies under congressional authorization. Estimates of how many such regulations exist are even less well settled, but the ABA thinks there are ”nearly 10,000.”
Supreme Court Justice Breyer elaborates:
The complexity of modern federal criminal law, codified in several thousand sections of the United States Code and the virtually infinite variety of factual circumstances that might trigger an investigation into a possible violation of the law, make it difficult for anyone to know, in advance, just when a particular set of statements might later appear (to a prosecutor) to be relevant to some such investigation.
Not just the State, but anyone could draw suspicion against you if they had the right information with the right circumstances. We are entitled to our privacy, and these institutions must be held to account.
Reblogging because the links in the bulleted list were broken, as someone brought to my attention.
This is why we criticize boomercons for (rightfully) being outraged about Chinese spyware but turning a blind eye to the US surveillance state out of some misguided and naive sense of nationalism.
The USA is the paranoid neighbor who thinks he's so powerful but actually is pitiful as fuck
the humanity of the AIDS crisis: the ward by gideon mendel
colorized by me
Never forget 🏳️🌈😔
OP you did a beautiful job colourising these shots
Notice how OP says “colorized?”
I want to remind you this was the eighties. THE EIGHTIES. Color cameras existed. Color VIDEO CAMERAS existed.
Someone put these in black and white to make them seem long ago and far away.
OP is returning them to their proper place in history: ONLY TWO GENERATIONS AGO.
that’s not fair to gideon mendel, the photographer who took those photos in 1993. he took them in black-and-white even though color cameras were available, yes, but not to “make them seem long ago and far away”. he was photographing in black-and-white so they would be taken seriously.
mendel is still documenting and lifting up the voices of people who live with hiv/aids in the project “through positive eyes”.
if mendel hadn’t taken these photographs, we wouldn’t have a record of these patients and the ends of their lives at all. it was extremely unusual for aids wards to let photographers in, and the patients took a risk in letting mendel photograph them and their loved ones.
rest in peace, andré, steven, and john.
This is the truest tweet I ever read. I never seen a mainstream haircair/beauty brand try to cater to black folks without doing exactly this. Always with the shea butter and gold packaging. It’s like the only way black women will know the product is “for them”.

So I've been unemployed for a while now- trust me, I am doing everything in my power to get a job -and am living off unemployment payments. Unfortunately, after rent and paying my phone plan and half of my health insurance, I'm out of money. Thanks, government that thinks people deserve to live under the poverty line for the crime of being unemployed.
Tw suicide mention below
I also suffer mental health issues... I have severe PTSD and deal with psychotic symptoms. I pay for health insurance because it allows me to be hospitalised, and I also pay for meds and psych appointments.
To be honest, I should be in hospital right now. I have episodes, and in my most recent one I tried to kill myself. The public system didn't admit me because by the time I was at the hospital I had calmed down, and because my friends had prevented me from doing any harm to myself. They just let me go home.
So my only choice is private hospital. The gap after insurance is $500. I don't even have enough money to buy groceries, and my family won't help because they basically disowned me for being gay.
I need this hospitalisation, desperately. It has helped me before when I am at my worst. It stabilises me and helps me regain my mental strength. My life is hard sometimes. Sometimes I just break. I wouldn't e-beg if this wasn't vital.
Basically, I need financial help. To save the $500, but also to eat this week. I have a ko-fi account, which is currently the only place I can accept donations:
Donate here
Disclaimer: donations through ko-fi are sent to my friend's old paypal account. My own account got limited and I am having trouble getting them to unrestrict it. I get notified of all ko-fi donations so my friend can't sneak any of the money, not that she would anyway. If you wanna talk to her, send me an ask off anon for her tumblr url.
