Hey guys! Another language learning tip for all of you language learners and polyglots out there!

Once you have some vocabulary up you sleeves, around intermediate level, you must stop translating between your native language and the target language. Instead, try to work and learn entirely in your target language. It will make the language learning process go faster and you will watch as your fluency grows and grows. 

For example: if you are trying to read Harry Potter in Chinese, and you come across a word you don’t know, when you look up the meaning, use a Chinese dictionary! Meaning the definition will ONLY be in Chinese!

Not only is this immersive, it will save you a great deal of pain and heartache later. By reading exactly the Chinese meaning, you will avoid any details that were lost in translation. You will see exactly what it means and how to use it the correct way. It also increases your comfort level with the language and gets you accustomed to only using your target language. And the sooner you get comfortable with a language the better!

Here’s an interesting thing about French! Everything needs to have an article in front of it. That’s why it’s “la chat” as opposed to just “chat”. So, for instance, you could say la fille for the girl, or jeune fille for young girl, but you can’t just say fille, because that means you are calling her a sex worker in a derogatory way.

The moral of the story is, if you want to make something rude in French, just take out the article in front of it. Yes, this works for nearly. every. word.
