INTERESTING FACTS

- shiloh is deaf and uses hearing aids to better hear in daily life. he can read lips and follow along well enough if he is aware he is being spoken too; sometimes you may need to tap his shoulder or elbow, but once he can see you, he can hear you. you will catch him making jokes like ‘it’s too dark, i can’t hear you’. 

- up until his freshman year of high school, shiloh attended a school for the deaf & hard of hearing; but he began public school from age 14, and later dropped out of community college. mainly out of boredom. 

- pulling inspiration from the mythos of helios, i have determined that shiloh & helios both are just a couple of fellas with their hearts pure, but plain unlucky. often shiloh does what he thinks is best, or what will help, only to have it blow up in his face. things spiral out of control very fast with his plans. he’s also prone to be naturally trusting & open, so this leads to him being taken advantage of frequently. 

- he has a pet bird named poe {an ode to edgar allen poe} that ‘talks’. we loose use this term, since shiloh never talks to the bird. instead, he leaves the tv on for poe to enjoy while home alone; so poe talks primarily in 90s sitcom quotes, because it’s all he knows. 

they are always eating fruit. seriously, they probably consume a ridiculous amount of fruit through smoothies, juices, and just plain snacking. 

also they haven’t been here for long - just about a couple of weeks! def in need of a tour guide or someone to show them around !

On some of his days off, Harley went off to into nature. It wasn’t very often but it was time for him to update his collection. Equipped with some boxes and other bug catching equipment, Harley was squatting on the ground watching and waiting for a shiny shelled beetle to walk out from the underbrush.  Then there crawling under a leave was a magnificent horned beetle. Harley heard footsteps coming down the trail. He had to ask fast. “Don’t make another step. You’re going to scare it away.” Harley held out his hand out in the middle of the trail to stop whoever was walking by. “I can’t let this one get away.” He was ready with a jar.

   Camera in tow, Shiloh was hoping to find some unique wildlife lurking around The Ruins - something to throw up on his Insta, aside from portraits && selfies && OOTD posts. While his heart had been set on the likes of kangaroos & wombats, Shi had thus far had little luck - until being instructed to freeze, which he did, eyes instantly trying to hone in on whatever it was being watched by the other man. Slowly, painfully, Shiloh began to lower to a squatting crouch, fingers sliding over the smooth surface of their camera. “What is it? Can I take a picture of it?”

Status: Open Location: The Golden Lyre

Elodie had a rare day off, and they intended to use it to it’s full potential. Which meant exploring one of their favorite things outside of art and tattooing. Music. She knew there was a record store nearby and it was just calling out to her to explore. And it in no way disappointed. 

Fingers skimmed over records, and CDS, and everything else they could touch. Not really looking for anything specific, but she’d surely buy something if it piqued her interest enough. Just seeing some of the older albums, especially in record form; made her feel a little nostalgic. However, she landed upon the instruments, fingers caressing the neck of a guitar before noticing someone near her.

“Oh, sorry, were you looking at this?”

    Admittedly, sometimes Shiloh had poor self-awareness, especially in loud places. Retail stores were a perfect formula for a checked-out Shiloh, who often would turn down their hearing aids in stores with ambient music. In The Golden Lyre, it was a bit prominent than in other stores, so Shiloh was entirely zoned out when a dim voice caught their attention, and he narrowly missed bumping the elbow of another shopped with his own. 

   “Oh, sorry-” Shiloh echoed her own words perfectly, without realizing, and stepped aside as his ears finally registered the question. “That? Oh, no, no, she’s a beauty, but... I don’t have time for another hobby,” they answered honestly, a laugh following. “Do you play?”

    “ehh... what?” shiloh turned slightly, his hearings aids turned down in favor of silence during his hike. only catching the last part of her question when he looked to read her lips, shiloh gave a confused shake of his head. “it’s aveeno. the scents make my dry skin break out in the fancy stuff,” they added, a smile on their face to show they didn’t mind the question. “i’m new, i’m exploring, seeing what all there is to offer.”

“wait, who says i have my eye on him? been there, done that, honey. i mean... obviously, i wish him the best, and i think we could still be friends, but. they’re exes for a reason, right? i’m gonna never forget that bit of advice i got. as for anyone else - hey, what’s the point of packing up and apparently moving across the country if you don’t leave your options open? if i have my eye on someone, they’ll know, when the time is right.”

spill the tea! what makes you feel like the main character in a movie?

“falling in love. i think it’s the best feeling in the world, and i want to make that happen for me as many times as possible in my lifetime. that desire to uncover more and more of a person, the way your heart fills up to the brim, the joy, the butterflies - i think love is what really makes you feel on top of the world, the most like a main character sort of vibes. especially if it’s sudden, and surprising, because all the good romance flicks have that featured, and it’s like- if my life could just be a movie plot, with some incredible, picturesque happy ending, that would be the ultimate success for me.”

she   considered   for   a   moment,   eyes   drifting   between   the   floral   landscape   feathering   the   skyline   along   the   coast   and   mountain   of   the   island,   and   the   lure   of   climbing   over   poseidons   wrath   again   and   watching   the   sunset.      rue   was   rusty   as   anything   when   it   came   to   auslan   (a   classmate   had   taught   her   the   basics   in   their   first   year   of   studying   at   queensland   university);   ❝lets   go   up   on   the   wreck,   it’s   pretty   up   there,❞   she   spoke,   making   sure   she   looked   at   him   so   he   could   read   her   lips,   then   signed   and   spoke   ❝i   LOVE   it.❞

it   wasn’t   a   difficult   task   to   draw   the   boat   a   little   closer,   anchor   it   safely   and   then   to   head   up   the   small   sandbank,   towards   the   rusted   ship.      ❝want   me   to   take   the   tripod   up?      do   you   want   to   take   some   shots   here   first?❞   rue   asked   them,   they   still   had   about   30   MINUTES   until   the   ‘golden   hour’   of   sunset,   ❝up   to   you!!    i   just  want   to   get   a   nice   picture  of   me   at   some   point   before   we   go   back   to   shore,❞   she   pushed   sandy   hair   behind   her   ears,   smiling   at   shiloh   in   the   waning   sunlight,   ❝as   long   as   you   don’t   mind?❞

     the sign was recognizable, and brought a grin from shiloh in her direction, one that was always easily awarded. “i’m down!” shiloh spoke, attempting to sign it back is auslan, despite having only just in the last couple of weeks began learning the australian sign language. their hands fell to begin ensuring the essentials were stored in pockets && the camera bag was strapped securely. “i’ve never actually gotten the chance to try to climb up it, if i fall and make a fool of myself, you gotta promise you’ll never tell.” 

   boat secured, shiloh’s eyes almost couldn’t pull away from the looming, rusted ruins of the ship, and it’s foliage growing atop it. “let’s head right for the top - save all the daylight we can, and catch that elusive transition stage between lighting.” his nod was definitive, as if shiloh’s mind was made up. a beanie held back their hair from their eyes and, despite the heat of the day during the boat ride, shiloh wasn’t the least bit uncomfortable - far from it. “honestly, the main point of this whole thing for me is to get some amazing pictures of you, which will be... so easy,” he gestured, both to her, and the environment they were fortune enough to be dwelling in. “but first... a selfie?” he pulled out his phone, holding it up and facing the best lightening, beckoning rue to join them in the frame.

𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍, 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐈𝐃𝐃𝐄𝐍 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐒          during the day !

at  the  top  of  the  hidden  falls,  where  the  waterfall  used  to  rush  over  when  it  was  larger,  charming  is  laying  on  a  large  water-flattened  and  smoothed  stone.    though  she’s  only,  BARELY,  ten  minutes  out  of  the  water  she’s  pretty  much  dry  save  for  the  fabric  of  her  bikini  and  now-damp  hair,  the  rock  itself  is  warm  and  feels  a  bit  like  a  lizard…  her  phone  lay  on  her  bag  playing  some  music  semi-softly,  and  she’s  lifting  a  joint  to  her  lips  as  she  reclines.    the  sound  of  water  splashing  and  another  presence  causes  her  to  push  herself  up  on  her  elbows  and  look  around  though  shaded  eyes,  trying  to  spot  the  epicentre  of  the  sound  through  the  suns  glare  and  sound  of  the  rushing  waterfall  below  her.

    though almost having been on magnetic island for a near month, shiloh was still discovering hidden gems from around the area && and after a suggestion to check the hidden falls out, they’d done so their first chance. as expected, the sights && the water were beautiful, and shiloh was almost entranced immediately by the little cove... if not for a very familiar, very welcoming scent. of course, in pursuing said scent, shiloh managed to trip over a pebble and splash into the water ass-first, and was no more graceful in their clumsy clamor back to standing position. “uhh.. hi,” was his slightly awkward reply as he caught the source of weed looking around. “clearly i was a pro ballerina in a past life,” they joked, coming closer, the sun to their back, but the sound of the water too loud for shiloh to even hope to hear anything they had to say in response, and the solar cast too distracting for him to read their lips easily. “i should’ve thought to bring my stuff, too. what an awesome smoke spot. you got dibs already?”

"interestingly enough, i don't exactly run everyone i meet through this line of thought, but now that is has been presented to me... of course i've met some folks good enough to eat, but my favorite kind of pastry is a decadent pastry, so i'd expect this person to be very sweet. i guess, in that case, i'd simple have to cook up Lux, since they're the realest of the real i've met so far. we'll leave the spider alone, though."

    with their camera bag strapped safely to their side, and the sun beginning to make it’s slow, gradual descent into the sea, soon to kiss colors of rose gold and tangerine. in a matter of a few minutes, the lighting in the sky would be a gorgeous scene, a perfect backing to the silhouette of the sunken city. 

    convincing someone to come out for a photoshoot wasn’t even a challenge, shiloh had found - though purely an amateur hobby, shiloh did have some secret, hidden hopes of gaining traction on pinterest with the aid of australia’s incredible sights... but a beautiful friend definitely made the experience all the more better. “alright, almost time,” shiloh spoke verbally, though his hands automatically signed the words as he spoke, too. “we can try to find a good spot to get on land, or we can stay in the boat and get purely background shots. up to you.”

There’s a feeling of relief when Misty’s victim was thankfully someone that Lux was close with. Better them than a less friendly stranger who might react badly. It’s swiftly washed away, however, the moment he turns around. “Shiloh! Careful!” She exclaims without really thinking. Her eyes stay on the other the whole time and as she peers over his shoulder to make sure Misty is still hanging on tight. Comfortable enough with them that they didn’t mind if the space between them got tighter, she goes over to them. “Sorry. Can you stay still?” She peers over his shoulder and spots the creature, unbothered by the sudden movements. “My tarantula is on you.” She explains out loud, signing it as well, and then points to her back to indicate where it was. Without giving them much notice incase Shiloh jumps, she reaches over their shoulder to coax Misty onto her own hand.

     “You know-” Shiloh started, but cut himself off short, deciding instead to remain motionless by command apart from a subtle, delicate sigh- mostly indicating dramatic purposes. She stepped in, and Shiloh was about to ask if she was seeing ghosts or something else equally creepy, when finally the explanation was given. “Your tarantula is on me,” Shi echoed, his tone far more amused than freaked out. “Because I’m in Australia, where this sort of thing happens, apparently, and it’s entirely normal,” He teased, unable to hold back the slight shiver after they saw the spider in question safe && sound back in Lux’s hand. Well - I did ask her to show me all the new experiences to be had on the island... Shiloh’s smile was returning, tugging up one corner of his lips. “Safe to say they like me, huh?” Stepping in closer, already trying to get a look in her palm.

     “ that’s the chinese food baby, i can’t take credit for that. ” he says with a grin, patting on his abdomen — which was a lot less bloated than last night, but the point still stands. he leans forward a little, straightening his back out — definitely needs a good stretch right about now. “ oh, please — i barely could get any sleep in my own bed most nights. i was more than okay, spent some time finishing up a book — ” he comments with a grin, holding up his phone to indicate. and it wasn’t like he was trying to sell a lie, he was used to not getting much sleep. “ anyway, you crashed maybe… around 1 am ? to be fair, maybe we should have called it quits by then. but i feel like we were on a roll there, huh ? come next month, i’ll be bilingual. that is, of course… when you teach me all the cuss words out there. ” he grins, turning his body to the side before letting himself lean against the couch, looking up at shiloh. “ you tired of me yet or do you wanna grab some breakfast ? ” he asks, trying to sign the word for breakfast as he said so.

     “mm, sounds very productive. i had a weird dream about... i don’t know, there was a sloth, i remember that,” shiloh paused, signing the motion for sloth a little slower again. “this is sloth. it’s similar to lazy, which is-” shi demonstrated the two signs, both quite similar to each other. then, he broke into a smile. “so it kinda becomes, like, an insult with humor if you call someone sloth rather than lazy, like a ‘ play on words ‘ - so to speak.” this was why they’d been up far too late, and why alex would be plagued with a stiff neck for the day; shiloh would get sidetracked, showing him the little details, the stuff that isn’t usually too helpful for actual conversing. aw, well - at the end of it, alex would be able to easily cuss out anyone in asl. they pulled they legs up, sitting crisscrossed on the couch, turned towards alex. “how’d you know? i’m starving - and sick of you? please. i literally just got here, you’re like my best friend in the world right now. what are we hungry for?”
