I'm seeing a lot being said on my dash about why the spittin' chiclets guys are so invested in Will being a womanizer (clips here: x, x) and I'm not saying any of those theories are necessarily wrong but like genuinely at the end of the day that's just hockey culture. Like that's how hockey players police each other's sexuality, that's how they (trauma) bond with each other, that's what they enforce as the normal way for a hockey player to behave.

I keep saying it but I really believe everyone should read We Breed Lions, especially if you're interested in analyzing this type of stuff cause it exposes and explains the basis of a lot of these men's view of the world (especially "older" men like the spittin' chiclets guys, but a lot of the younger generation too, although I have to say I was impressed with Matty for not going along with it).

Here's just a few excerpts about this specific topic from WBL (tw sexual assault and pretty nasty misogyny & racism):

Like I'm sorry to make this conversation super serious and non-whimsical because I understand that it's more fun to do psychoanalysis about how Will being hot makes Biz uncomfortable (and maybe it does, idk those men like that) but at the end of the day it really just comes down to this: these men fundamentally don't respect women as fully actualized people and because Will is a hockey player like them, they assume he sees women like that as well. And because Matty is also a hockey player, they assume he will be down to share and joke and laugh about all of the sex they know Will must be having, because that is how it goes in the locker room, and that is how they assume hockey players behave around each other.

One afternoon, a rare off-day during a long roadtrip, everyone is starting to wonder where the baby sharks are. Not one of them showed up to an optional skate at 11am, and no one has seen them since the night before.

Importantly, this stop is in Canada, and none of these boys can legally drink in the United States of America. Will and Sam kept buying Tequilla Shots, enough for them and Mack and Misa and Graf. They kept coming. They stayed out late, way later than they ever do in the US, way later than any of the vets, although Toff sees the uber call on his account so he knows they got back to the hotel. The biggest problem is, Sam and Misas room is empty. So is WillMacks.

So, come 3pm, Toff finally knocks loudly on Grafs room, hoping at least some of them are in there. They yell that the door is open, and he finds them all laid like this, in varying states of disarray, bottles of water and snacks surrounding them, in varying states of undress. Wheres Graf you ask? He could have slept in the queen-sized bed next to the rest of them, sure. But he slept in the bathtub.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.
